I played drums in this video but not on the record. We were all really tired having just driven back from gigs in Brisbane and this was recorded in Sydney. Cheers! Robert Lloyd.
Must admit , First time I've heard this song, I'm 67, but it is really good.. !! lead singer has a terrific.. voice. reminds me of the Virgil Bros.. great sound mate..
don't you love serendipity, late last year I found this remembered song from my youth and decided to play it. My husband of 37 years (3 years younger) yells "this is it, this is it", he says "I have been looking for this song since I was younger, I asked all my friends and nobody knew what I was talking about". He was so happy and I was happy that I accidentally found it for him, we both love this song!
I only realised this gem of a song when they played it on the Aurora channel the other day. Apparently it only charted in Sydney back in the day. I love it too.
The lead singer Graeme Willington has a great voice for someone only 20 years old. Pity we didn't hear more of him. He passed away in his sleep in 2018 at the age of 69. RIP.
17 in 1969....... yeah me too. I often flew balsa wood model gliders after work and on the weekends, with my 15 year old friend, in Constellation Park, Roselle, down beside the harbour. And this was the park in my mind, when I heard 'Lazy Life' on the radio, such a beautiful, dreamy, peaceful, song. I still fly model gliders in my local park, not Constellation, I live somewhere else now, and I still feel the same as I did in 1969 and I often remember 'Lazy Life' and Constellation Park, particularly when I'm flying at dusk. There's some very beautiful 'things' that happen in this life and 'Lazy Life' two parks and model airplanes are some of mine.
The Producer, Arranger and Keyboard Player of this song was Rory Thomas OEM RIP, who also played with The Affair, Doug Parkinson an The Questions and many others. I was fortunate to play with him in The Rock Musical Godspell (1970). In those days very few people could get this big band sound on to Vinyl. Rory was a MASTER !!!!!!!
One The best songs Doug Parkinson sang, was Without You, can’t find it anywhere on TH-cam. It was featured in the Aussie movie Don’s Party. It was on TH-cam and they took it off.
In 1969 I was 17, and definitely not lazy. Working, surfing, playing rugby league and getting on with life. BUT I loved the music especially Lazy Life by Heart & Soul
Great song in its day and now still. Beautiful backing timbre. This song evokes so many personal memories. I was 16 years old and had discovered someone to love. Music takes you right back to that moment. When I’m 102 years old and my mind in somewhere in outer space this song will bring back that beautiful time in my life.
mine was different, 17 and madly in love with a 35 year old co-worker, boy did i have it bad, she had eyes for a thin well dressed co-worker. wow she'd be in her nineties now :):):):)
I've always liked this, big thanks to the uploader. Aside for posterity - around this time I was watching a TV quiz show and this song was played, contestant was asked to pick the band from a list, never heard it before she replied, but they sure seem to be putting their heart and soul into it so that's my choice. Bingo!
I remember the TV quiz show and I saw them play. think it was called "Generation Gap". It was a show about past habits and customs and teenagers had to identify the old time customs. Don't know how Heart and Soul got a spot on the show but thank goodness they did. I was stressing about my year 10 exams at the time. remember the song very well. great youtube. great post. you have a great memory. thanks for the post.
Great band - one of my faves from the late 1960s. Still remember seeing Heart & Soul live at the Manly Vale hotel. Must have been underage at the time but we were groovin' schoolgirls man :)
@@anthonymcdibble9496 I love your funny comment! He was an exceptional singer, and yeah the body language could have been a bit more animated, but the song is called Lazy Life after all :)
Hi Robert, Just wanted to say how much I love this song, one of my faves from this era of Aussie music. I play drums as well. Are you still playing ? Cheers Warwick.
Graham had an amazing voice. Where do you find these clips? Did you work in the industry in the day? Thanks for the memories and for sharing these forgotten clips 😀
I just recorded them off rage and collected them from various video traders. I didn't even exist when this stuff was out, and I haven't worked in the music industry.
Wow-amazing that you are finding and putting it out to share-thank you. I was around 14 years old and quite a groover during this time lol. I remember all these bands and seeing them on tv and sometimes live in Brisbane-even got to know some of them too. Keep it coming if you can and thanks again for taking me back down the path of my carefree teenage years 😀

I just looked up this group and the original drummer Graham Lewis died in a car accident in 1969, sad.
@Puppy-ew4be Sorry about your father, we all have our cross to bare, either it be sooner, or later. It’s wonderful that you play the drums as well.

A favorite song, but the backing and production - sensational. Love this post.
What an Aussie 60s stone classic!!! Love the clip too - cop the bass player in his cool long leather coat!!

Great song.
Lead singer is the only guy ever to sing his hit single with his armed crossed.
Not the whole time though. He also had his hands in his jacket pocket. What stage craft !!!

better
Heart and Soul were the band for my school formal in 1969. This song was a hit then for them then. I think it was the only one.
BEAUTIFUL SONG. BEAUTIFUL VOICE. THE BRASS IS JUST FANTASTIC. LOVED THIS SONG FOR YEARS. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD DO A KARAOKE VERSION OF IT. XXXX
Still got my 7" copy. Put it on CD. What a gem.
Love this song...brings back many memories
Saw this group play at a church dance in Strathfield back in 1969
I have been listening to this song since it was released but didn't realise till now, vocal timbre is very similar to Scott Walker...
And Jim Morrison.
In my top 5 Oz songs of ALL time ( recorded and sung in Sth Africa first by ?? who cares). AMAZING !!!

Oh no I was just wondering about Graeme Willington while listening. Fabulous memories of Heart & Soul playing shows in Sydney in the late 60s.
I never figured out how this song didn't end up in a travel commercial for some place.
I loved this song. What a great production. Just a shame that lovely singer was so nervous.
I don’t think he was nervous, more pissed off……if you look at the top comment from the drummer!

I saw them at Hornsby PBC too. Even got their autographs. Great band - as we're many who played there. 50c to get in as I remember.

Graeme Willington had that Jim Morrison look - and not a dissimilar voice actually
Billy Fury sings this a lot faster, both great versions 👍
