    The ending needed a real boss battle too and not just Marauder Shields.

      Never forget Marauder Shields and his sacrifice, if only we had heeded him.

    My idea:
    -Make it so that the actual war assets you recruited appear on Earth in the final battle to fully see the fruits of your labour
    - After defeating Illusive Man, you confront the Catalyst star child. The Catalyst star child is a Reaper secretly installed in the Crucibles system that prevented the Protheans from winning, and talks to Shepard about the inevitability of victory due to the synthetic/organic conflict.
    - Based on if you were able to peacefully resolve the Krogan and Geth conflicts, you can reason with the Catalyst to abandon the Crucible, allowing for it to fire and destroy the Reapers, leading to a happy ending.
    -If you weren't able to resolve those conflicts, you engage in a boss fight with the Catalyst. There's a counter on the screen showing the number of war assets left - Shepard must defeat the Catalyst while his allies still fight the Reapers.
    - If you defeat Catalyst without losing too many allies, Shepard fires the Crucible and saves the galaxy, but sacrifices himself to do so, leading to a bittersweet ending. (However, certain other characters survive/die based on how soon you are able to beat Catalyst)
    -If you lose all your allies while fighting Catalyst, you fail to stop the Reapers and the cycle continues, leading to the bad ending.
    Those are just my ideas for the ending. There are probably some other areas of ME 3 I would have changed, but that's a whole other can of worms to open.

    You've made this point before about the Reapers never having to be understood. But the original story very much explained exactly what they were. Each Reaper is a super computer made of the most advance specie of their cycle. Created to solve the dark matter problem that was increasing the entropy in their galaxy. They were farming the species of the milky way, letting learn using their tech so that they think as they do. Tali's mission in 2 was about this. They attacked only human colonies, made a human Reaper, and attacked Earth first. There was a story there. It was changed when the script was leaked and changed again when the game was leaked. The original ending makes the most sense and in does so specifically because we know what the Reapers were and what they were doing. Javik outright explains that this cycle is different and that in his time the Prothean were dormant and kept other races from advancing and so they became a monolith, and very singular in their thinking. Only though the action of the humans (Shepard) did they unify the galaxy. Your understanding of the series, and proposed ending, undermines the efforts of the story that's already there.

    My issue was the Keepers. If the Citadel was made by the Reapers, then so were the Keepers. They were obviously intelligent enough to maintain Reaper tech, like the Citadel. Without the Reapers, were the Keepers free to perform independent thought? Could they teach all the civilizations of Reaper tech, or would they just fall over and die, as the Citadel laid to waste with age?

    Ass Erect was such a near and dear series that I just, cant replay it because of that trashfire dumpster hurricane of an ending. I loved the seconded game so much, it was exactly what I needed at that time in my life, amd Mass effect three just served to cheapen it in my opinion.

    I agree with your points. As you say, you deal with the Illusive Man minutes earlier than have the option to chose what he would have in Control. In ME1 Saren’s option is basically synthesis, the green option in ME3. It’s a false choice, the only actual one (that wouldn’t make you a hypocrite) is destroy the Reapers. But I loved EDI, Legion, and all the AI buddies. Feelsbadman.

    The ending of Mass Effect 3 will forever shadow the franchise. People want to know why Mass Effect 4 failed... I point to the ending of Mass Effect 3. You could tell that gamers were on the fence after Mass Effect 3 and were skeptical of Mass Effect 4 when it was released. They wanted to see... how bad... it would be, and if it would be like Mass Effect 3's let down. Then low and behold that they half-assed the day 1 release of Mass Effect 4 and it was like confirming everyone's worst fears.

    No it fucking wasn't. ME1 was amazing, granted. My favorite game of all time in fact. But from the start ME2 was just wandering around looking for the tiniest hint of a plot. The first half of ME3 was quite solid, but it still crammed what deserved to be the plot of a whole game (as in, should have been ME2) into half a game. And the whole latter half ME3 needed to be scrapped, not just the last ten minutes.

    • @SootShade
      @SootShade 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And TIM wasn't a good villain in any way. His entire involvement in the series made absolute no sense. Probably a result of having to kill off and then immediately resurrect Shepard at the start of ME2 just to justify somehow fitting him into the story.

      It is the ending. If it were a movie, the audience would have put 2 and 2 together easily, but because its a game, most of the audience couldn't infer the obvious. If they had, or at least hadn't thrown a fit, Bioware would have made ME4 continuing from that ending cutscene where Shepard woke up.

  • @HazmanFTW
    @HazmanFTW 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    All Mass Effect needed for the ending was either, blow up the reapers stopping the cycle and Shepard dies in the process, or; you let the reapers won and the cycle continues.
    Or even just the reapers win outright and the crucible is actually a nothing thing and just a decoy/ploy by the reapers to trick everyone into thinking they can win and they just blow everyone up. Eldritch horrors win the end. Admittedly that one might piss a lot of people off as you did all this work and still lose any way but I think it's pretty solid.

    The original explanation for the Reapers was better: the use of Mass Effect technology shortened the universe life span significantly. The original creators of the Realers realized this and, wanting to preserve the universe for the future, made the Reapers to destroy life every 50,000 years, that way life would have its time in the sun before being destroyed and the universe would continue into the future

    ME3's ending was the best thing in the series, and one of the greatest artistic heights in all of gaming. It was an indoctrination attempt, and most players fell for it and didn't notice because it was too subtle - just like an indoctrination is supposed to be. This is ending was like games Citizen Kane, but because people don't expect high art from video games, they didn't figure it out, and threw a fit instead. Had people appreciated it, EA might have coughed up enough money for ME4 to finish off where ME3 ended - with Shepard regaining consciousness in the Citadel after rejecting the indoctrination attempt.
    edit: sorry for abysmal typing, was in the middle of a workout, but I just had to respond for this misunderstood art.

      Good artists put hidden messages in their work all the time and they don't need to spell it out for the viewer, the art speaks for itself. There are many little details that are put in specifically for indoctrination.
