I deeply appreciate the fact that the moves can be shortened (and slightly rearranged) to make it F.C.K.E.R., and I will be referring to this specific ruleset as "Burger Fucker" to get my ADHD friends interested in using it, thank you
Don't think we didn't pick up the easter eggs in the document. I can't wait to play my Alteration build character, Sam Reich, and use my favorite ability: "Game Changer".
When you mentioned Themes gaining cracks & possibly losing a Theme all together, I immediately thought about my current PC in D&D, a machine who didn't believe herself to be a sentient creature, but has been gradually pushed to reconsider that self-image. I can see that this game would really emphasize that part of her story more, as any moment where she has a passionate emotional response.migjr risk cracking that theme, and then when the theme is destroyed she's forced to acknowledge that she ***IS*** a person in her own right, artificial or not, and has to change the way she thinks about herself.
13:29 - This is actually a useful way to think of situational outcomes when telling stories in general. Obviously fiction writers don't roll dice (usually, as far as I know) but it makes sense that the characters won't _just_ fail and get halted in their tracks, rather they fail and that somehow introduces a new development. It sorta reminds of the "Therefor/But" method the South Park guys came up with, where you never want plot developments to occur independently of each other.
I think everyone should build their own versions of the games they love most. It gives you the ability to really understand the why's of how things work and can be a great way for those of us who run games to put a sense of play back into it when that gets harder to find. Thank the universe for the friends that have to listen to us talk about the minutiae of it though.
I think this is so cool! I play a lot of solo RPGs, often mixing and matching them to make my own game. This mechanic system sounds right up my alley. I've never played City of Mist, but your video on their mechanics was really interesting to me. This system you made is just what I have been craving since that video.
Okay, not even in the halfway point of the video and I've already decided. I'm gonna translate this thing to Brazilian Portuguese. If you want I can send it to you to make it available to anyone as well.
"and then... I learn... that there is not copy rights on games rules" This Knowlodge alone can make any man powerfull as a wizard that live in the cost I learn this on my young years when i went to a game dev college, there is something so... freeing about that
14:18 Okay this section right here, this is a great explanation behind this line of thinking. I had never thought of putting it like this before, but should now really implement this in my DMing style so I can push the narrative forward with my story telling. Thank you so much for the inspiration here! 😁
I simply must thank you for that old City of Mist video. Thanks to that video, I discovered PbtA games, and amongst them I found Masks, a game that simply changed my GM style for the better and is one of my favourites RPGs! Thank you! And now excuse me while I download your game system/squeleton and use it to run Word of Darkness games that you taught me to love and now I have a good system to play them. 😁
Thanks for sharing this. I'll definitely be looking at this in depth as soon as I can. Looks very promising. I'm always interested in hearing ideas for game design and seeing different systems.
Thank you for making something I've always wanted. I've tried to make my own system a few times, while my players have always loved the various systems that I made. They never scratched my itch. From what I've seen, I think this will. So you have my appreciation.
nice move. I've also arrived at semi-freeform tag-based play, but by way of Freeform Universal and the FKR. It just makes sense. Your point/tier ladder is interesting. Lateral character development via gaining & losing themes is chefs kiss.
That's nice I recently made my own rpg (On purpose). It has like 20 pages total with all rules, playable characters creation options etc. I'm now working on a bestiary/world lore P.S: I actually used the tag system in these rules- in combination with statistics. Basically, you have two tags which describe your past, one being something that happened to you ("Conscript" or "Orphan" for example), and the other something you chose to do with your life. And whenever one of these tags suggests you should have experience with something you're doing, you can just reroll one dice, potentially changing failure into success. And you decide when it applies- no superlong discussion because you think that being a soldier makes you better at cooking or GM thinks it doesn't make you better at shooting, just move on. Also, the system works in the way that you roll multiple d10's depending on how difficult that task would be to an average human, and succeed if enought of them are equal to or under your statistic- except 0 is still a critical success because it's not considered a 10. And 9 is always a failure, because it's impossible for any character to have 9 in a statistic, and they can only ever have higher than 6 if their class(ification) allows them to.
i dont often quote presidents but this one is truly deserved ''Genius can speak at any time, and the entire world will hear it and listen. Behind the storm of daily conflict and crisis, the dramatic confrontations, the tumult of political struggle, the poet, the artist, the musician, continues the quiet work of centuries, building bridges of experience between peoples, reminding man of the universality of his feelings and desires and despairs, and reminding him that the forces that unite are deeper than those that divide."
Idk how much you care but I just watched an old video and you have definitely gotten more attractive over time. Also love your philosophy and your rpg stuff! ❤
Take care of yourself, and don't push yourself when you're sick. But I will also be looking forward to that controversial video, sounds like a good one.
This system sounds like I could mix it with roguelike design, making the items you collect affect your character's power and themes and whatnot. Like you pick the orb of carcinization and now you got crabclaws for hands which gives you +1 in melee damage while bare handed. Maybe you can use the themes as builds and you amass more crab theme making your crabclaws now mantis shrimp claws if you get specific upgrades, of course that also would mean getting downsides as specialization means you're trading away something to become better at a specific subject, so it's a balance of not getting too specific to the point that something out of your field of skill completely eviscerates you when encountered.
Hey man. Feel free to say no, but i think alot of people here would appreciate a more in- depth look at all the WOD stuff. Your overviews were so good that I listen to them once every few months even though I knew most of what was in the videos before the first time. You have alot of talent. Thanks for all the content and the game sounds awesome.
Burger, I am 2 seconds into the video, and this isn't related to anything, but I feel obligated to say, your hair looks great. As one long haired guy to another, looking good.
My favorite system is GURPS for much the same reason (wanting to play any games) and with how Advantages and Disagree work it has the same pricipal that the discription of the character are also the stats of the character, although GURPS is very complex.
I'm working on making my own system that combines the City of Mist system with the world of One Piece. I really like the power ladder you have here, but I'm most interested in developing the static character rules.
The only issue I see with this is the RGB designation for Theme Sheets being hard on the colorblind (esp red/green spectrum ones). Will probably add some little icons (💪🧠👄?) for those folks when I playtest it! thanks for the free stuff!
Any chance there's a character sheet type thing on the horizon? I love a lot of the ideas here, but fully grokking a system usually means I need to look at character sheets or character examples. Either way thanks for opening the door to City of Mist and this new(ish) evolution of PbtA games to me!
I do love reading this system as compaired to the pain of reading so many other game systems out there. SO Many games are Title of Game, Short Story, LORE, LORE, Apentex A few game play rules, Short Story, Quote from NPC, Game play rules, LORE, Game play Rules, Short story, Game Play rules, LORE. And offten the rules for one part of the game are freaking hard to find. And I am thinking PLEASE for the Love Of Glob Put Your Apentex on Page 1 And also PLEASE do not making me read your LORE inbetween game play rules. Awwaaa!
can I suggest box cars hell yes, 12+ yes and, 10 and 11, yes, 7 to 9 yes but, 6 no (as in you simply fail the thing) 5 to 3 no and, and 2 (snake eyes) critical failure. So with a fireball you could succeed and also take out all additional threats including ones you where unaware of, you could take out the target and some additional threats, you could take out only the specified target, you could hit the target but fail to fully incapacitate them, you could fail to call any fire at all, you could miss the target and hit something you wish you hadn't, or you could hit yourself and take damage....
Hey, to anyone who can answer this, I won't have time to read the rules for a while, but I'm only able to play solo. Does this have built in solo rules or would I need an oracle and some hacking? Game looks rad, good work Burgerkrieg.
I can also strangely relate to making something on accident. I made a joke about how when Elves and Orcs are frequently used in fantasy porn and now because of that origin I homebrewed my own race of Oni for DnD, because Onis tend to have traits in common with both Elves and Orcs.
I'm confused about how taking Statuses works. The rules state "When you take a Status, add or remove Dots equal to its Power and check what Tier you are in." What's the Power of a Status? Isn't that just the Tier of the Status?
@TheBurgerkrieg So, if for example; a character were to fall a great height and receive the status "Broken Ankle -2" would you remove 2 dots from any rolls where that status applies? Or would you remove 2 tiers from those rolls?
(diss-clamer Nothing I say here is an insult to the game, when I say "I like or Diss-like" I mean "My Taste" Not "I think it is good or bad") I like the 2d6+Power thing and the ranges on here. But I do not like the "Gm Never rolls, Gm dose not set the DC" Kind of stuff. Classic example of why is I offen see in systems where the GM can't raise or lower the DC I see players lock picking a basic lock for a bike and rolling to unlock a bank vault have the same roll to make. These 2 rolls are equal. I don't like the GM not rolling dice thing is because for one I enjoy rolling dice and also I think that NPC's should at least mostly fuction the same as players. I do not want my players to feel like there chracter is more 'real' then the NPCs I do not want the players to feel like they are 'alien' to the worlds they are in. I don't want them to feel like the rules of reaitly it self fudmentaly are not the same for them as they are for the NPCs.
I deeply appreciate the fact that the moves can be shortened (and slightly rearranged) to make it F.C.K.E.R., and I will be referring to this specific ruleset as "Burger Fucker" to get my ADHD friends interested in using it, thank you
amazing. 🍾
PbtF: Powered by the F.C.K.E.R.
Don't think we didn't pick up the easter eggs in the document. I can't wait to play my Alteration build character, Sam Reich, and use my favorite ability: "Game Changer".
What I can suggest is to make a video where you make characters for different settings and showing how to use their stuff.
When you mentioned Themes gaining cracks & possibly losing a Theme all together, I immediately thought about my current PC in D&D, a machine who didn't believe herself to be a sentient creature, but has been gradually pushed to reconsider that self-image.
I can see that this game would really emphasize that part of her story more, as any moment where she has a passionate emotional response.migjr risk cracking that theme, and then when the theme is destroyed she's forced to acknowledge that she ***IS*** a person in her own right, artificial or not, and has to change the way she thinks about herself.
it neat

"and then... I learn... that there is not copy rights on games rules"
This Knowlodge alone can make any man powerfull as a wizard that live in the cost
I learn this on my young years when i went to a game dev college, there is something so... freeing about that
Sounds like FATE with extra steps.
Well done.
But way more possibilities its great
I, too, am ripping off fate, plus world of darkness
Bold move making your game abbreviated PoT. I love systems that are more thematic and less number crunchy, so this appeals to me.
As someone who lives near St Pete it is crazy to hear that you were interviewed by them. Small fuckin world.
I wonder if there are trips to Ybor.
We have a great community at SPbN
Small world, yet im at the other side of the pond

I’ve been meaning to comment for a while, I absolutely love this and have been looking for a setting agnostic of the CoM rule set. Very cool!
Thanks for sharing this. I'll definitely be looking at this in depth as soon as I can. Looks very promising. I'm always interested in hearing ideas for game design and seeing different systems.

Reminds me of the mechanics of Stealing Stories for the Devil, a very simplistic ttrpg that i had the chance to do a one shot of and it was very fun
I had a lot of fun playing that too. ;)
Like long and prosper Burgerkrieg! Good to see ya dude. Your long hair is looking nice!
Great stuff, mate. Definitely this is my style of RPG.
Really cool! the loadout/backgorund rues could be clearer or maybe just higher in the document. but it looks really nice! great agnostic hack :)
Thanks for the new system to try! I had similar thoughts about City of Mist.

you have my condolences, rpg creation tends to be a lethal disease.
I hope they find a cure before you go Gygax
That's nice

He says he is a leftist while being anti feminist
You talk a lot about white privilege, cis privilege, straight privilege hell even female privilege, but you never talk about male privilege
You unironically believe men are more oppressed then women and you have the audacity to call yourself a leftist😂
According to you women face no issues
