Oh I had CK Eternity! I didn't personally love wearing it as I'm not a big fan of carnation, but it's so well constructed with the hot / cold play off. I see why so many people love that one 🥰
loved your take Claire! i adore wearing my fragrances as they very much are tied to my emotions and make me feel uplifted. i’ve been feeling very down in life and spritzing one on in the morning makes me look forward to starting my day and going to a job that I hate, for example. catching wiffs throughout my day make me feel calm, grounded and in some cases, like I’m wearing a secret. the feeling of euphoria of wearing fragrance is addictive and I can understand why some people can get carried away with buying. i have to remind myself constantly to analyse my emotions because buying a new fragrance isn’t going to fix anything…

Hey Claire - that’s interesting about your reaction to Cacao Porcelana. My sad fragrance is Serve Lutens L’Orpheline - smokey cold incense and musk. I really can’t wear it and am only keeping it because I have many Serges…..want to keep my collection in tact and maybe I’ll change my mind? 🤷🏼♀️ Totally agree with you re: L’Ombre Des Merveilles - and don’t reach for that one often either. I live in Arizona where we get very little rain and it’s primarily sunny - so I am drawn to scents that I perceive as “sunny” ☀️☀️☀️ and uplifting. Thanks for sharing this fun tag with us Claire!
I have a decant of L'Orpheline and yes, I agree with you! I guess the name and the story behind the fragrance might suggest that it might be trying to provoke those kinds of feelings too! It's a fab one though, very striking. L'ombre de merveilles is something I rarely wear either. It's a definite look with clothing that is required to fit in with that one too! 🤣 Mmm yes! Sunny is one of my favourite categories. I may live in the UK but I absolutely crave 25-30oC that's my happy temperature range. I think that's why I love sunny florals 😎

I sold Love from Chopard a while back, ironically i loved it initially but ended up disliking its faults. 😅 Jasmin D' Anges is truly stunning. I can see why it makes you happy. It is interesting to note that how emotions and scents can be interconnected in certain ways. I love the way Opus III from library collections is described. I can relate the papyrus, thyme, virginian cedarwood and sandalwood notes refers to library, wooden furnitures and old leathery books. The powdery violet and yellow florals gave an image of a strict, orthodox, less than a feminine professor. While the cloves, nutmegs and thyme gave some spiciness or bitterness on her outward character but deep inside there is a warmth and sweetness once you know and embrace her deeper (benzoin, vanilla and musk). There is a fragrance actually inspired by a feeling of unrequited love. It is called Jicky by Guerlain. It smells like amber fougere. I wonder there is a fragrance that evoke a feeling of rage like hell hath no fury like a woman scorned? It must be scary to wear. When Im feeling nostalgic or saudade i like to look at sea and smell the sea breezes. The smell of lavender and violet will remind me of love and tenderness of a grandmother or a mother. The smell of oud and rose like in Oud Satin Mood by MFK gave me a feeling of contentment of being best version of myself. I love the smell of the rain. It gaves me happiness.I feel like I want to dance in the rain. If there is an apple note like in Overture Woman by Amouage it makes me feel playful like an innocent child. The same innocent feeling with the peach note in Petite Cherie too. What does an indie kid means? Is it like independent kid who reject norms? Any particular or special perfume do you receive as a birthday gift? It is time for you to wear Chanel no 5 :). Congratulations on your new job.
Opus III is worth a sniff. I smelt it on my friend and he smelt so good in it, he gave me a sample and that was it, I bought it 😂 I tried Jicky a while back, I didn't realise that that was the inspiration! Oud Satin Mood is beautiful! Oh indie kid, I am really referring to the type of music that was popular in the mid to late 2000s, so Belle and Sebastian etc, so artists with Jeepster and Rouge Trade records. It's perhaps a little more grunge than indie but the imagery fits. I actually got a little travel size of Pitching Woo from One Way Bridge for my birthday, it's sadly no longer made but so delicious. It's precious and it was a lovely and unexpected gift to receive. And yes! Now is the time for Chanel No 5 now I will start my own research group 😊

I used to buy old vinyl records and second hand turntable when I was a student. I've tried to DM One Way Bridge through Instagram but they didn't reply. Maybe I should check on their websites and place an order should I decide to buy one.
Interesting. There is also personal associations (Grandma wore perfume X; I loved Grandma; perfume X makes me sad or nostalgic). I have a weird one: Guerlain's Vetiver makes me very happy, but I don't think it _smells_ happy (it smells like a dapper buisness man to me), rather I think it's some kind of herbal effect similar to the way lavender or chamomile are supposed to make one feel relaxed.
That's really interesting, great points! Vetiver is supposedly one of the most attractive notes on men for women from the down right dodgy research I've read 🤣 And yes, I get the association of particular fragrances with people too. I can't smell blue grass and not think of my grandmother and that's why I don't own it because I wouldn't want to wear it, despite me liking it, and yes, it makes me feel sad to smell it.
I was surprised you didn't include a fragrance that embodies confidence. For me YSL's Libre is that one. Nostalgia: Jean Patou's Joy, which I wore as my signature throughout my 20's at uni, my early work life, my wedding scent, etc. I haven't worn it for decades now. Your video made me think about my fragrances in a different way, which is a good thing.

Some very appropriate choices! Love that you chose White Musk for anger 😂 I feel the same about nectar d'issey, I resmelt it about a year ago and felt underwhelmed. Chanel no5 and actually Coco too are spot on for nostalgia, we all knew someone who wore one of them. Fab choices 🥰
I hope you’ll be able to find another bottle of Lola if you want. I’ve learned that I use fragrances to uplift me or comfort me. I don’t think I have fragrance that reminds me of anger or sadness directly…I would spray something to comfort me or lift my spirits. This was interesting, thanks Claire 😊
My most happiness emotions come from Insolence and Eternity and my tiredness one is want by Dsquared,I just sink into that like a fluffy pillow and drift of to sleep Loved this so much ❤

The original Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT is my calming fragrance. I can't wear it to bed every night because I become nose blind, so i wear it year round when I need it. I bought a 5oz as a backup just in case they feel the need to change it. I love Black Orchid and Alien. I never could wear Black Orchid out though. I kept it for me and my husband alone.
Yes I agree, NR for her EDT is very calming. I think it's the vetiver and the musk. Black orchid is one I've worn when I've known I am going to be outside a lot in the autumn or winter, it's a stunner! Thanks for watching 🥰
This was such a thought provoking video Claire. I have a strong association with a place and time when I use certain fragrances. Tauer L'Air du Desert Marocain reminds me of getting ready to go out for an evening. Chanel fragrances take me way back to those years when I worked at the Chanel Beaute counter and we all used to spritz ourselves throughout the day. Years ago I wore Gucci and my kids would say I smelled like Keystone (a mall nearby) and I always liked that. My wonderful late husband used to tell me to just go to Keystone and it will lower my blood pressure. He was right! It has such a calming effect for some reason. I'm rambling but thank you Claire. You always make me think.

This was a great video from you. The Jasmin one still is a strange one for me, it's a posh Dior and Jasmine and I just couldn't love it. The cacoa is a good one I can see Ems love for it. Opus III is absolutely magnificent isn't it. Yes it is quite a beautiful deep violet. Yes Chopard Love is a nice one especially for the price. Yes falling in love is seeing the imperfections and things that makes them really them. Lovefest is a good one and yes does have a nice muskiness. Yes I imagine this fragrance was so very you. Yes the newer versions of Alien 🙄 yea I'm not a fan. Mon Guerlain is a very lovely one isn't it. I do think their more so called "affordable" ones are their best. Since I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, I could predict Lola for nostalgia because I know how sentimental that fragrance is for you. Perhaps you can find a bottle at a flea market? I’ve seen it in Istanbul and I wish I got it because it sounds like a scent I would enjoy a lot. For me I would choose Baby Doll by YSL for that category and it actually resembles Lola a bit from your description. It has black currant in the opening and rose in the middle, so it’s also zingy and fresh. Discontinued a long time ago and I can’t find it at all. Have fun celebrating your big 40!🎉🎂

Hi Claire! This was such a fun video! I think we choose perfumes based on the emotions we want them to evoke in us. I love happy scents; they’re usually yellow florals for me. I also adore a good nostalgic scent. I have plenty of them; they transport me back to different times in my life. Most vintage fragrances make me feel confident (though I'm not sure that's an emotion). Dior Dune evokes melancholy for me, but in a soothing, not depressing manner. The only fragrance that makes me sad is Estée Lauder Knowing. It takes me back to a certain period in my life I don’t wish to relive. That's why I don’t own it, even though it's a beautiful chypre scent.

Black orchid reminds me of death. There’s something about it that reminds me of people gathered for requiem mass and I that sense, a sad one for me. Noir de noir or club de nuit intense woman gives me graungy and funeral vibes and I tend to often pull that for that occasion 😊
Yes they are gothic feeling I guess? Black orchid is a little damp forest almost, but with lots of sweetness for me. CDNI and noir de noir are quite vampiric. 👍

Something upbeat and a little sweet probably, maybe Nina Ricci chant d'extase? Or even just some relatively plain woody vanilla. Something unobtrusive to let the ideas flow...
Good timing. I have a funeral to attend this Thursday. I've been trying to think of a fragrance that is respectful, not overpowering, but that I still like to wear. I have a lot of vanillas and some fruity/gourmand florals. Any ideas?
I think I'd choose Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs from my own collection, but I realise that's quite a vintage now and really hard to find. It's gardenia and some honeysuckle with some green and aquatic fresh touches. So I guess softer white florals perhaps? The other one that I think would suit from what I own is drop d'issey, that is unassuming lilac, fresh but comforting and clean feeling. Light and airy. I hope that helps. 🙂
Yeah, that gives me an idea. I have a mini of Dioriviera. It's green, rose, and fig. Other things in that vein I have are Blooming Bouquet and Light Blue. I have an okay sized collection, but not a lot of light florals.
I ended up really enjoying it! My bottle went very quickly! It wasn't a love to begin with though, I think I was a bit inexperienced in the perfume world at the time 😂

Oh indie kid, I am really referring to the type of music that was popular in the mid to late 2000s, so Belle and Sebastian etc, so artists with Jeepster and Rouge Trade records. It's perhaps a little more grunge than indie but the imagery fits.
I actually got a little travel size of Pitching Woo from One Way Bridge for my birthday, it's sadly no longer made but so delicious. It's precious and it was a lovely and unexpected gift to receive. And yes! Now is the time for Chanel No 5 now I will start my own research group 😊

Interesting. There is also personal associations (Grandma wore perfume X; I loved Grandma; perfume X makes me sad or nostalgic). I have a weird one: Guerlain's Vetiver makes me very happy, but I don't think it _smells_ happy (it smells like a dapper buisness man to me), rather I think it's some kind of herbal effect similar to the way lavender or chamomile are supposed to make one feel relaxed.

And yes, I get the association of particular fragrances with people too. I can't smell blue grass and not think of my grandmother and that's why I don't own it because I wouldn't want to wear it, despite me liking it, and yes, it makes me feel sad to smell it.
I was surprised you didn't include a fragrance that embodies confidence. For me YSL's Libre is that one. Nostalgia: Jean Patou's Joy, which I wore as my signature throughout my 20's at uni, my early work life, my wedding scent, etc. I haven't worn it for decades now. Your video made me think about my fragrances in a different way, which is a good thing.

I’ve learned that I use fragrances to uplift me or comfort me. I don’t think I have fragrance that reminds me of anger or sadness directly…I would spray something to comfort me or lift my spirits. This was interesting, thanks Claire 😊

The original Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT is my calming fragrance. I can't wear it to bed every night because I become nose blind, so i wear it year round when I need it. I bought a 5oz as a backup just in case they feel the need to change it.
I love Black Orchid and Alien. I never could wear Black Orchid out though. I kept it for me and my husband alone.

This was such a thought provoking video Claire. I have a strong association with a place and time when I use certain fragrances. Tauer L'Air du Desert Marocain reminds me of getting ready to go out for an evening. Chanel fragrances take me way back to those years when I worked at the Chanel Beaute counter and we all used to spritz ourselves throughout the day. Years ago I wore Gucci and my kids would say I smelled like Keystone (a mall nearby) and I always liked that. My wonderful late husband used to tell me to just go to Keystone and it will lower my blood pressure. He was right! It has such a calming effect for some reason. I'm rambling but thank you Claire. You always make me think.

The Jasmin one still is a strange one for me, it's a posh Dior and Jasmine and I just couldn't love it.

Since I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, I could predict Lola for nostalgia because I know how sentimental that fragrance is for you. Perhaps you can find a bottle at a flea market? I’ve seen it in Istanbul and I wish I got it because it sounds like a scent I would enjoy a lot. For me I would choose Baby Doll by YSL for that category and it actually resembles Lola a bit from your description. It has black currant in the opening and rose in the middle, so it’s also zingy and fresh. Discontinued a long time ago and I can’t find it at all. Have fun celebrating your big 40!🎉🎂

Hi Claire! This was such a fun video! I think we choose perfumes based on the emotions we want them to evoke in us. I love happy scents; they’re usually yellow florals for me. I also adore a good nostalgic scent. I have plenty of them; they transport me back to different times in my life. Most vintage fragrances make me feel confident (though I'm not sure that's an emotion). Dior Dune evokes melancholy for me, but in a soothing, not depressing manner. The only fragrance that makes me sad is Estée Lauder Knowing. It takes me back to a certain period in my life I don’t wish to relive. That's why I don’t own it, even though it's a beautiful chypre scent.

Black orchid reminds me of death. There’s something about it that reminds me of people gathered for requiem mass and I that sense, a sad one for me. Noir de noir or club de nuit intense woman gives me graungy and funeral vibes and I tend to often pull that for that occasion 😊
Yes they are gothic feeling I guess? Black orchid is a little damp forest almost, but with lots of sweetness for me. CDNI and noir de noir are quite vampiric. 👍

Good timing. I have a funeral to attend this Thursday. I've been trying to think of a fragrance that is respectful, not overpowering, but that I still like to wear. I have a lot of vanillas and some fruity/gourmand florals. Any ideas?
I think I'd choose Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs from my own collection, but I realise that's quite a vintage now and really hard to find. It's gardenia and some honeysuckle with some green and aquatic fresh touches. So I guess softer white florals perhaps? The other one that I think would suit from what I own is drop d'issey, that is unassuming lilac, fresh but comforting and clean feeling. Light and airy. I hope that helps. 🙂
Yeah, that gives me an idea. I have a mini of Dioriviera. It's green, rose, and fig. Other things in that vein I have are Blooming Bouquet and Light Blue. I have an okay sized collection, but not a lot of light florals.

Agent Provocateur is one of my favorites during the cooler months. It’s sexy and commands attention.
I ended up really enjoying it! My bottle went very quickly! It wasn't a love to begin with though, I think I was a bit inexperienced in the perfume world at the time 😂
