I see no hope for india...
Any woman who files a divorce or dowry case in india is called a gold digger...
What can you expect from such a society ??
This girls parents were also selling property instead of getting their daughter divorced from a greedy monster and his equally greedy family ...

Don't undermine the false cases. That makes life hell for innocent men, some of whom may commit suicide. Biggest culprit is marriage, especially arranged marriage. Just be in a relationship on fair terms (don't be a gold digger). If one partner is becoming a problem, the other must leave immediately. And this should be normal in society

See don't judge a gender, based on A Law, because in every family we have a mother, father, brothers and sisters.....Every girl is not innocent and every Boy is not a good boy... She died because of her parents. I blame the parents solely. They choose to marry their daughter to such a family. And after all the domestic violence also they didn't bring her back or tried to go there. Rather they tried to meet her in-laws demand for more money. There is no point of crying or blaming now in front of media when you yourself is responsible for your daughter's death. Shame on her family.

Why do they wait for the marriage to somehow magically work out? Why don't they just get a divorce? What's wrong with Indian society and its obsession with seeing divorce as a taboo to the extent that even the death of a person is acceptable to them, but not divorce? I'm sure the father is in agony here, but I can't absolve him or the rest of the family from blame. When you know your daughter is unhappy, being violently and mentally harrassed in a foreign country, why would you try to appease the wrongdoers by selling your land? Even though you know that the money means more to them than your daughter. What made you think they would stop after one or two demands? There are countless examples in your own country to prove otherwise.
What is this mentality of "let's make the marriage work at any cost"? Why can't you just stand by your daughter and help her escape this toxic marriage instead of finding new ways to entertain the demands of those evil in-laws and her husband? She could have been saved if not for the stubborn notion that "oh, we don’t have divorce in our culture." As a society, we are vultures when it comes to women.

The comments section is disastrous. Some people are blaming the family, some people are blaming dowry demands, some people are blaming the girl (seriously??), some people are justifying the boy’s actions by saying he had a low-paying job, etc
.. but no one ABSOLUTELY no one in the comments section is saying- IT IS THE BOY’s FAULT AND HE DESERVES TO BE PUNISHED. Everyone else is at fault. But IT IS PANKAJ LAMBA who is at most fault. Controlling someone, beating someone and then killing someone IS A CHOICE. He made that choice. It is not by chance that he has killed her, so why not HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE?
No one knows how hard life is abroad, and saying why the woman didn’t leave is just brutal. We don’t know there must have been a lot going on. Abusers are not always abusing. The women don’t leave because they know it is very risky to actually leave. She might have been very scared to leave due to that reason. Who knows, she might have tried to leave and he killed her? It is so sad to see people having a mentality like this in 2024. Shame on us and Indians. We have lost another daughter.

Dowry is illegal but paid in > 93% of marriages and alimony is legal but paid in less than 1% of cases, purely because most Indians never divorce. In any case alimony is the price you pay for the unpaid labour you extract from a partner, the cost of a partner sacrificing their job opportunities to build a future with you. In many cases it’s not paid at all even in the event of a divorce. A dowry is the sale of an adult male, which is abhorrent! Slight rectification in what you what you have said ☺️: "Harshita was given Police Protection" - Its more like a DVPN was generated and applied by Police (Valid for 2 days) and once presented to Court, it becomes DVPO which is then valid for 28 days - conditions will be imposed to Protect & Safeguard the victim. 😊 (Both Suspect & Victim MUST abide by the conditions imposed by court.) This is done in cases where victim does not have/ give enough evidence for her case to meet evidence Threshold (as requested by Court) to be processed as Remand. During these 28 days of DVPO, if Suspect breaches any conditions mentioned in the DVPO (Domestic Violence Protection Order), he will be in CONTEMPT OF COURT and hence immediately arrested IF reported by the victim, family members, neighbours or as per Police Intelligence.
Suspect does NOT pay the Police any money. Police does NOT charge money for any COST. If he has paid anything, that will be to COURT.
And, as per LAW, suspect also has the right to make an appeal against the Domestic Violence Protection Order and his case can be presented to court.
While the DVPO is imposed, Victim should be informed of her right to apply for Non-Molestation Order against the suspect. It depends on Court & Evidence, and this could be valid for 1 year upto 5 years.
If Victim has no friend, family or relatives to go to for support & Shelter, Independent agencies help victim in moving to a safe location/accomodation which is NOT disclosed to the suspect/suspect's family. Police DOES NOT get to choose whether to send victim of Domestic Abuse to a Small , medium, or Huge House. It is as per the urgency & availability of accomodation as decided by Independent Housing Agencies.
After the expiry of the Domestic Violence Protection Order, POLICE has no control over what the VICTIM DOES. If the victim wants to restart her life with her partner, POLICE cannot stop her. Otherwise, this will be a violation of her Human Rights - To Privacy. INDEPENDENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGENCY (IDVA) will counsel the victim and help her act in her best interest. But, again, ISVA cannot force the victim to stop communicating with the suspect.
However, if Victim reports new incidents of domestic violence after the expiry of the DVPO, new investigation begins and old cases involving both are reopened. For any case to progress, it is crucial for Victim to provide a VICTIM STATEMENT to the Police.
