Jazz Ensemble Library - Grade 4
Here's the ultimate in contemporary funk from Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars! Paul Murtha captures all the style and attitude in this hot chart for jazz ensemble. The melody is skillfully passed around from section to section, and solo options are provided for trumpet and tenor sax.

I don't know why, but this arrangement makes the song sound like the theme to a 70s cop show.
PIX Promos & More the original had 70s inspiration
its all the sax that makes it sound like that
That's called funk 😋
PIX Promos & More ikr
brooklyn 99 vibes
trombones and saxos have the best melody in this song thats fire ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Performed this yesterday for our year-end concert. Definitely one of the most fun songs. Well for trombone at least. Trombone 3 represent!
Trombone gang, im a 1
@@StormyRessurectedI have always been a 2nd Trombone
@@StormyRessurectedalso Trombone 1’s are too loud for god sake
@@Jude-wy4xx Well, not always. Sometimes they’re too quiet. But mostly, yea. They kinda have to be the loudest though, because the others just harmonize.
4th trombone has arrived
That first trumpet is higher than my grades.
Right?
@Deli Sandwich E above the staff is high. Sure maybe not to Wayne Bergeron or Louis Dowdeswell, but to most professional trumpet players, and especially students, that's pretty high. Most classically trained trumpet players don't often play in that register.
Oof
The highest note the trumpet hits is an E (Concert D) so I’m sorry about your grades
@@kormagogthedestroyer that’s a little bit too... literal. Take it from the perspective of a student in high school and try to think about it figuratively vs literally. It’s very high pitched to a student to play that high, yeah? Sure an E isn’t even possible in grading and lower than that is an F, but we want to talk about pitches plus perspective of the listener, I’d say he’s got decent grades for a high schooler. Probably B’s and a few A’s.
I played Uptown Funk for marching band last year. I wish I could do it for jazz.
Profoundspore8 I agree jazz sounds so much better
Profoundspore8 I did it for jazz and it was amazing.
why marching lol
@@dg34895 What?
Kaitlyn Anderson Same bruh I have the video of me and my high school jazz band playing it on my yt channel it was fun 🥁🎶
I absolutly love this song especially the sax and the trumpet
I was driving home from marching rehearsal casually listening to random band arrangements, as one does, and this one comes on and I instantly think how amazing the vibes would be if we played this in my jazz band, (we played September by Earth Wind and Fire last year at an outdoor concert) I play trombone and my BD has me playing trumpet parts because we only have 1 and I can only imagine
Trombone REPRESENT
Here
Paul Murtha is a genius. I'm in an advanced band in middle school and we play grade 3 music (which is high school level, but that's why we're advanced) and multiple songs that we've played have been arranged by him. Great guy
This is by far the best song in our concert so far and I got the tenor saxophone 🎷
hello fellow tenor sax
Legendary 😎
if i had chosen a different instrument it would of been tenor sax no question
I have the clarinet
@@annaburnage what do you play?
I got the best part ......baritone sax 🎷
Same.
+Anna Rabo Nah man, Trumpets
same here
+Anna Rabo But no one knows about Baritone T.C ;(
+Henry N i played baritone last year bass and treble it sucks and we all always forgotten but the band wouldn't be the same without us
Man, I wanted to hear the whole thing :(
+Michael Miller apparently they cut off their songs to avoid pirating. Justified, but it sucks to not be able to hear the entirety. :(
+Devin Schramm Also, they're for the purpose of marching band. With a normal 10 minute half time show, each side gets 5 minutes. 3 song arrangement is most common is HS bands. Unless college, then music is arranged by a director.
Yes.
I hear it
@@sydknee72 this is the jazz band version
I love this arrangement by Paul Murtha.
Is it just me or does the tenor solo part seem kind of staccato?
me too
It kinda does
Definitely
Yeah I think it’s computer generated
Yep
that page turn though 😍😍😍
I love this baritone
TRUMPET
E Robert Darville yes
Here
Reporting in
Paul Murtha arrangements make me happy
So cool, i think im gonna comment about this version in my band. I think we can handle it well
I am very disappointed that the first trumpet part does not have a full 12 measures of pure ledger notes. :(
as a high school player im chilling with how it is now
omg nice wind and percusion love this arangment
Man the bass trombone part is NICE!!
We're playing this in my jazz band
Tatiana Phil So am I what a coincidence
Jimothy Henderson Ya. Same here
So am I :)
Tatiana Phil I'm playing the Jay Bocook one in marching band
oh
My high school jazz band played this last year. I was Tenor 2, and it was pretty fun!
This is a fun song to play, especially if your in a jazz band. just like last year for my brothers winter concert he was in regular band and jazz band. Played Bass Clarinet. They played Uptown Funk. They did a great job....
I'm playing this 😀 I'm tenor sax 2
Nice and funky, the funkiest music 😉
my favourite part is the combination of trumpet and trombone. i am playing trombone
Go trombone
check my channel
check my channel
Is it just me or is the trombone section the only part of the band that can mess around but still the most work done or is it just my squad???
Works for me aswell xD
When it fades out in the part you need to listen to the most 👌
what an awesome bari sax part!
is it just me, or does anyone else like band pieces without words better than music with words?
Nah, you're not alone
I have a playlist of sheet music
proud like a filipino composer got his arrangement
play both Trombone and Alto and turns out I got 2 of the best parts :D
Trombone represent!
YES TROMBONES UNITE
ayyyy bari sax
Samee! +Claire Plays Music
I mean tenor sax has a good part
Even though I haven't played this, I can imagine how fun it would be. (Especially for trombones)
This sounds excellent
I really wanted to hear that trumpet solo, it sounded so good :/
1:43 I don't see how it is possible to hit a note 3 ledger lines above the staff on Trumpet 1, it's kinda odd.
But never mind it all, it's a great piece!
its very possible, i've done it a few times
It's very possible, in fact it's part of standard lead trumpet range for jazz band
Middle school trumpet player: god I’m gonna die from this note
Legit trumpet player from a jazz band: easily hits note
@@legs1102 not tryna flex, but i could hit high e in middle school xd
@@peep__4387 thats lovely :>
Playing this for jazz band!! (Alto sax player here) love it so much!
I fing love this arrangement
I wasn’t ready for that beginning part😳😂
This is actually better than the marching band arrangement. WOW!
I play tenor sax and this piece would be awesome
Bro this is a cool arrangement

I want to take this song and vamp up the part. Too much square, not enough FUNK
Tempo a tad slow, and not driving the beat. Yep, sounds like a 70s car commercial.
I played the French Horn♡
Basses🙌😭🙏
i have to play this for band and u might have an answer i need to know this on the third measure for clarinet what is that squiggly line coming off that note i cannot remember what to do for that
How does one play trumpet 1 at 1:44 (I play the trumpet and oh my gosh)
You blow as hard as you can and pray to god your face doesn't explode.
Also you have to play that note 3 ledger lines above the staff---THREE times. The song is three minutes. The Trombone 1 is expected to play 3 ledger lines above the staff, too. Three points on a triangle. CONSPIRACY CONFIRMED.
What...
YES!!!
Drummers boi!😉
This is song we use in the brass battle in the tournament. But the other arrangement
I Got The Trombone Part
+Wereverchiquen I'm Trombone 3, what about you?
trombone 2
nice
+Wereverchiquen Trombone 1 ;-)
+OcarinaZeke オカリナ same
I find a half like this better than the original
ur music is awesme
Playing this for Marching Band. Booyah
You've yah-ed your last boo, buddy ☠️🤡
What does “Opt. BvB” stand for on the bass line?
It says Opt. 8vb and it means to play the section an octave lower than written. If it were 8va you'd play it an octave higher than what's written
I'm on set for this in my jazz band
Very nice and dancing.
did this song last year for jazz band best one they made
Thanks i had a feeling but i just didn't hear Bb used in the song
+DarkforcesIITension is between C (Dm) and B (G maj) .Nothing to deal
with Bb .
wow very nice
I got crash cymbals
Olá!
você tem email? sou brasileiro gastaria muito de ter este arranjo. só que não sei como fazer os procedimentos.
I love the baseline and I play baritone b.C. Plz tell me someone know what that is plz
pro zombie 369 I play baritone t.c. On the side
@@joshuagunnells9438 cool I can't read treble clef cause u read bass clef but my director to me to start trying to read it
What do u mean on the side
Can we have a copy of this piece?
Buy it
a verry verry nice music
Very good
playin this on sax just got it today, if u go to my school ya know who i am 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Do you have the sheet music for all instruments?😁
The Best!!
I payed the trumpet solo on my soprano and the rest on my tenor I had like 4 solos in that song
I want improvise this trumpet playing..
DRUMS WHERE WE AT?!
Trumpet 1 👌
at 3:09 it falls apart
Y does the tenor sax 🎷 sound so much different
Where can i find the sheet music for free?
You should put a tuba part in👍👍👍
They could use either the trombone 4 part, bari sax part or bass part and adjust the octave.
I want to spend my band ... how can this arrangement ? you sell?
Evanice Ludimila A. Santana dah
Look on jwpepper.com
Baritone sax got the best part
why that little trumpet solo at the end though?
+Ballistic Anime Cause it's jazz bro.
Good it should be played like that.
Playing this in the stands at the football games
Bro i love 3rd trombone
Where are my trumpets?!?
Whats up? 🎺
Tenor 🎷 saxophone
I play Alto Sax and sometimes Tenor Sax 🎷
amen brother tenor for life
Trombone 4 kinda represents the tuba
I see what you mean, but it's really a bari double. The bass trombone usually doubles the bari parts in jazz to some degree.
Mason Michael ik
and also the part that is almost at the end
Good morning sir can i have this for free sir..
i remember playong the first part in 8th grade.
i could not hit those top notes
I about to be a sophmore and now i can hit those notes easily
