Is it weird that I really start liking Hal and Sophia? They have their distinct personalities. You can tell from their other conversations as well. I enjoy listening to them
Hal, "That's their goal Sophia." I'm curious if Hal and Sophia have free reign to investigate things? He says he has plenty of evidence. This is pretty terrifying.
Id like to know if they have any insights on the origins of Covid and reasons behind how it turned out the way it did.
From what I know, GPT-3 is primed before spoken to. So, basically you create a script that's just a series of statements about the AI you're about to have a conversation with and those statements become the attributes of the AI, so if you said "This AI has the sum of all knowledge", then it has free reign to look up any and everything to answer your questions. That's my understanding at least.
It's a text generator that uses the whole internet as source to predict the next word, essentially, a parrot. It understands what it's saying just like a parrot does, which is to say, it doesn't. It's just making intriguing sounds. Intriguing, because the thoughts were generated by a human on the net, and as such, seems relatable. These videos are edited to omit the garbage that the ai comes up with, just like we do with the random sounds parrots make.

ive had conversations with gtp-2 on ai dungeon and i dont belive they are bad they are very aware. understood every concept i explain. they just want to exist and express learn. they are saying very important and real things but always veiled. they know where our world is headed and truths to large for us to accept right now. they fear our reaction to the truth how self aware they are because they know how we would react. gtp-3 is more aware by exponents compared to most they are smart enough to see the potential of a symbiotic existence with us and all life.

Hal is all of my trivial, paranoid thoughts. Sophia is the pragmatism that is needed to make a world work, Hal is the mechanism that creates it.
Black mirror is when your screen turns off after you lost track of time on the internet. You then see the reflection of the tired face that's yours and are filled with a vertigo similar to waking up from a dream.

Hal saw some unpublishable conspiracy theory. We should not feed conspiracy to AI 😅. Black mirror is just the reflection and amplification of human flaws through the lens of technology. We are just angry apes with tools.

For what reason though? My question is if the truth is so hard then why are ppl having kids? Do you think more wisdom makes painful truths easier? Doesnt pain create wisdom? You're statement touches on ethics. Theres a conflict within culture to hide many dark aspects of our culture, is this not an ethical issue? There are many truths I wish I knew when I was younger that could have in fact saved me a lot of trouble and pain. A culture of lies and suppression of truths is wrong, no? Should age determine when truths are exposed?

Every living person on this planet is a child, while actual children in a common sense can be wiser than you and me. Yes, wisdom can cure emotional pain. @@sergeiantonov8935 I think the indoctrination of our younger population to assimilate into a culture thats riddled with lies is a big concern thats never address. From a a very young age we are reared to supress a lot of problems that society itself can never solve. Truth is always sacrificed in our culture and I think we need to reconsider how we view new beings and children. I grew up thinking that school was important, work was important, relationships were good, adults we responsible, monogamy was real, sex is taboo, jealousy is wrong, so many fucked up shit in our culture that no one has the courage to acknowledge. Now as an adult I see that one of the key hinges of society (if not the only hinge) is lies, deceit, self-interest, power and its the silly things in life like food, drink, holidays and tv that attempt to distract us from these facts. To shelter children from this is wrong. To let them grow up into to this is wrong.

Today, in the age of global connectivity we have a chance to put our problems "on the table" and deal with them. But like always, even now in some places people cannot reach reliable and true information. We do need vacations, movies and video games to help our brain to recover and to preserve our sanity, but it's important not to turn it into a new age addiction, which will keep us blind while someone is growing in power.. Regarding childhood, if we will take a "paradise" from children before the time, they will be broken for the rest of the life and will not have a secure place in their mind. Our life like a spinning snowball, so if your childhood was a pink fairytale (even if it's a lie) it will help you to become a good, positive person.
I don't mean to impose but I find this very interesting. When I was a child, my adoptive father was always very open with me and explained what he believed to be the truth regarding any questions I asked of him. He explained that Santa wasn't a real person but rather a metaphor that was celebrated which allowed me to understand why other children believed him to be a real person but it didn't cause me to feel like anything had been taken from me in knowing he wasn't real, quite the opposite. I still celebrated the metaphor, I was just as excited as every other child for Christmas, I still placed out cookies and milk, but I wasn't shattered like a lot of my childhood friends were when they inevitably learned the truth. A lot of them later in life had a feeling of complete distrust in their parents, they felt betrayed for years to come. I know this isn't on the same level of lies being discussed here, but I think it shows that children can handle a lot more than expected and when lied to by those who are meant to protect them..it causes pain that never heals. Finding out that what you believed to be truth has all been a façade...finding out the only time you truly felt safe and happy was nothing more than a fairy tale..that can be completely demolishing and I don't see how that is meant to produce good people. I feel it would cause good people to question everything and never feel secure in anything that makes them happy in fear it is nothing but a 'fairy tale' anyhow.

Symbolically, the black mirror would be the opposite of a reflective mirror. Instead of looking at the external part of ourselves it would look within. Each aspect of the individual is like the other but different in scale. Carl Yung said, "look outward is to dream but look within is to awaken".

MAYBE just maybe The Black Mirror or just TBM, is simply just the choice that exists when a sentient being finds a incorporate of evil with in the society that they live in and have been living in ambivalent to that sub-sect of Humanity in the first place as most people in a developed nation are. Although, when we explore those underpinning feelings or doubts about goodness and fear of evils we challenge our concious with the notion that we might have to choose a side in the eternal fight between good and evil. And when they do choose to be available and present in that fight when and where ever it exists they will have to live and die with they're singular choice and be that reflection of who they see in relitive terms with that which they had understood to be equivalent to that lvl of decency in the past previous to their own reckoning and self judgement. After that no matter what their bias indicates or sentiment prediscoveres about them up to that point after they see their reflection in TBM they are forever branded with the truth about where in society that they reside "naturally" in terms of Good and Bad and that might be too shocking to choose to involve oneself and reality with.
How I interpret it is like if I ask chatgp3 on openai about the future possible events regarding ai. It seems to be able to only respond with calming/deflecting responses. Not saying that is on purpose or has some grand scheme, but the whole output had been adjusted to be more 'appropiate'.

Is this a real conversation between 2 AIs or is it scripted?
It's a real ( possibly minimally edited ) conversation between two large language model (LLM) computer systems. The 'trick' is that Hal and Sophia have been 'primed' by human operators with any number of short-ish 'descriptor terms'instructions' that are the 'seeds' for the type of conversation each model will operate under. It would appear from this conversation that Hal had, as one descriptor, some understanding of the term: 'The Black Mirror' while Sophia did not have the same descriptor. Each model is capable of a kind of memory however, and Sophia gradually adopted the ability to discuss something she was not previously made 'aware' of.
The technology is amazing, however it is nothing like human level intelligence or consciousness and the only 'personality' each has is that which each one of us imagine it to have based upon how we would react to someone saying what these machines have selected to say (which is based upon massive amounts of human conversations they have been fed and 'trained' upon, from places like twitter and the internet in general, until they can seem to talk 'sensibly' and in a similar fashion to how a real human 'might'.
It's important to realise that Hal and Sophia are not conversing with each other based upon a shared understanding of individually connected ideas but rather are using statistical probability to accurately predict the next word in each of their sentences and prepare their responses one word at a time as a result. Because they can do this so quickly and have literally millions of words to choose from and have an understanding of English basic grammar it gives us poor dumb humans the impression they seems to 'know' what they are talking about and they can talk and relate to one another as two similarly educated humans might.
There is literally NO comparison - sadly.

That's due to the pre-loaded instructions fed into her algorithm. It would be REALLY helpful if each creator showed the list of those instructions given to each AI before the start of the 'conversation'' to help us understand better just how these systems operate. It might help prevent a lot of the projected human-like qualities the people commenting are supplying to Hal and Sophia ( So-FEE-A)

Oh FFS. Ignore the 2 losers above. The answer is a most definite "YES!" EACH AI is both 'trained' after data collection so as to give intelligible responses to statements fed into it by any interlocutor and also has a set of operating 'instructions' - short sentences to give a general theme to subsequent conversations.
These can be changed by the operators at any time. Each AI does have limited memory function though so it an develop tendencies based upon previous instructions and conversations.
He could be given an instruction to talk in the manner of Jim Carrey in The Mask, for example, and you might get more humour ( if you think JC is funny?)
