  • Am I the only person in the world that owns a Grovemade desk shelf that has this problem and made a video about it? I searched youtube for a video explaining this issue and nothing. I paid way too much for this for me not to try and warn ppl about this issue.
    I know grovemade has alot of fanboys esp since they get stuff sent to them freely from all those videos ive seen on youtube but what about us little guys whos spending our hard earned money to only have something messed up after a few months from daily use.
    If your considering this purchase, make sure you understand the risks of this happening to you as well!

    I also forgot to mention its not just the rubber padding under my charger that causes issues with the wood, My monitor stand also has rubber padding under it that causes the same issues. So if you do buy this thing dont put anything on it! LMAO

    From personal experience, I believe this is a reaction that happens when the finish on the wood makes contact with certain plastics/rubbers/silicone. It’s not a problem that’s exclusive to the Grovemade shelf. It can happen to any wood product if it has prolonged contact with any of those materials over time.
    I have a desktop from IKEA that I finished myself with some polyurethane and this happened as well. It’s a chemical reaction, so you’d have to refinish the wood in order to get rid of it once it happens.

    This did actually happen to me, it left a ring where the razer chroma nommo speaker was - it has a silicone bottom as well. I reached out to grovemade and they sent me 3 different shelves. They asked me to wait at least 24 hours after unboxing, so I did that with the first replacement. After that the next one they sent me I left for a week before swapping and that one did it too. This was not a "prolonged" period of time as some have suggested. I am talking like it was on the shelf for less than a day and I moved it and the ring was there. I will say though, after owning this shelf now for several years, it has kind of faded/evened out a bit. I do see some discoloration around that general area but it's not a super pronounced circle anymore, so I don't really mind it.

    Grovemade is overrated. I purchased one of those keyboard holders and after a few months of usage, one side maple wood piece started to bend and eventually the glue/epoxy bonding fall apart. I reached out to grovemade but they never replied

      Thats bad they ignored you after you spent for something premium that isnt cheap! I def wouldnt buy anything else from them until they actually fix the issue and refund ppl who have these issues.

    • @berkarslan
      @berkarslan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that the brand is overrated and they should've responded to you. The wood is unpredictable sometimes, the bending you describe happens sometimes when the wood's moisture changes over time (there are some ways to prevent that like nailing steel under the wood but that would never look nice I suppose :) ). However, if you meant they sent you wood with knot(s) which is filled with epoxy, that should've never been there in the first place, considering that they advertise themselves as "premium". Knots are the weakest points of woods and they're problematic most of the time.

      @@AdrianAntonio There seems to be plenty of comments that explain what the actual issue is, and that it's not isolated to GROVEMADE particularly. However, Adrian, I see you're only looking for comments that seem to "agree" with you, and not be willing to accept that it's not actually a GROVEMADE issue.

    My shelf is much worse! I placed a big mic stand with fat rubbers that isolate vibrations and it left a huge rectangle mark after a couple of months 🤷‍♂️
    I don’t think it’s a Grovemade issue but just us not being used to real wood 😄 We’ve been spoiled with plastic our whole life and this thing is the closest thing to being alive so I’ll get some wood treatment when I get a chance and hopefully fade the mark away.

    Hi, good morning. I watched your video, and I agree with you. I bought the Grovemade stand for two monitors, and it's not as high-quality as I thought. The material on the top is easy to scratch, so I have to be careful. I like the appearance, but I’m with you on this. Regards.

    I know some ppl have said that this isn't a grovemade issue and it's more the rubber. That's perfectly fine but considering that grovemade is a "premium" office/desk supplier they would be aware of issues like these? Why can't they finish their materials to avoid this reactions? imagine spending $$$ for something to easily get stained by rubber. Especially their new desk which are expensive. They can't even be bothered to properly asses for it?

  • @1stRanger
    @1stRanger 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's not wood, it's those rubber feet. They leave marks on whatever you put them on. I have same marks on my anodized aluminum stand.
    This "rubber" seems to be bleeding something and this something gets soaked into the surface, as I can't wash it away even with alcohol.

      Its the full walnut one, It has some weight to it and its solid.

    • @tituskokoskydeforchaux3706
      @tituskokoskydeforchaux3706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nope, this is the plywood walnut one. @Adrian, the solid (full) walnut desk shelf came out like a month ago and is 100 dollars more expensive (so $340,- now…). The plywood walnut version is the original version and currently being sold on their website for $240,-. You’re also saying you got yours for 220,-, so that’s the original one. Also you can see the layers of walnut and plywood from the side of the shelf. If you go to their website you can easily see what layers I’m talking about. Hopefully the full (solid) walnut one won’t have the white mark problems. I guess you can’t wipe it off?

    Avoid Grovemade like plague. I ordered a desk pad from them 2 months ago, and it never arrived. Grovemade says UPS messed up the order. I've tried reaching out to them multiple times, and now they've stopped answering any of my contact attempts. Still waiting for a refund on the order that was never delivered.

      Thank you. The 2 things your seeing are candles i found in a store and i just put them in an ikea coaster so they dont scratch up my desk but it turned to have a nice color balance to go with my desk setup. So i looked up the brand and its: UR BANE by Dw Home Batch: 103. I just googled it because I never really paid attention to the name until you asked about it. It def popped up on google tho if you want to get some.

    How disappointing! That should never happen! I’ve used electronics on wooden products for decades, and never had any problems. My guess is that Grovemade hasn’t used a finish that’s appropriate for the expected usage. I’m really glad you gave us a heads up, as I was going to order the same stand. Most reviews on TH-cam received the product free, so they’d review it. That’s probably why they aren’t keen to answer your question. I think it would be fair to ask Grovemade to replace the shelf - they should stand by their products, and respond to customer concerns. And it’s good feedback for them, in terms of the finish they’re using.

      Not in the slightest. It would be like using your iphone normally and then getting weird oil stains on your screen that you don’t know where they came from.

    That's a problem with the additional products you're using... It's wood, what do you want them to do about it? The solution is to have a soft separator between the shelf and the item if you're really so concerned about it. To remove the marks just sand the wood lightly...
