This is so adorable! Luv it! I hv seen these kinds of bibs in the past but in sewing - I thought they were fantastic but cud not find one for crochet - many tks for this. I hv a problem though. I made 52 rows & followed your video for row 53 then started bib portion & that is when I ran into problems - first row! I am not very good at math so maybe I am reading this wrong - If u add the sts (6 + 10 + 14 + 10 + 7 = 47 not 52 - I don't understand - I end up with a couple more sts so it doesn't join very well - if I crochet the couple sts won't that throw off the count and end up with a weird looking bib???? Any suggestions! This is so cute and really want to make this but not sure what to do next - do I rip it out & start over??? Many tks for any help u can give me Stay safe!
First, do not pull out your rows. For row 53 we are working into the sides of rows 1-52. You work 1 stitch into the side of each row, so you should end up with 52 stitches. So I think the questions is actually about row 54. Row 54 (also called Bib Row 1 in the pattern): So the stitch count for this row is (1+ 6+ 1(increase) + 10 + 1 (increase) + 14 + 1 (increase) + 10 + 1 (increase) + 7. Ok so first, the +1(increase) is 3 stitches worked into one stitch. So your finished stitch count for the row is 60 stitches, but those increases only take up one stitch of the previous row and we are trying to figure out how to reach that 52 of the previous row. So for your math above I notice you miss the first stitch. Your first stich is worked into the same stitch as the slip stitch THEN you work stitches into the NEXT 6 stitches. Then I don't see the increases in your math above so if you add the 4 increase and the first stitch you will have 52, but because we are doing increases you will have a total stitch count of 60 for Bib Row 1. I hope this helps. If you need more clarification, make a new comment as I don't get notifications for people replying to a reply.
This was made for my 2 yr old. What I would do is try going up one or two hook sizes, work the collar and see if that will fit over his head. Then you can just work the pattern as is with out having to adjust the stitch counts.
I wouldn't use it for a newborn, but for a 1 yr old I think it would be fine. That is about the time they are starting to do finger foods and baby food. The bib is 13.5 inches from shoulder to bottom of the bib. It is 9.5 inches wide in the front (not the shoulder area but lower down). Yes you can use HDC instead of DC but you will have a smaller bib and need to work more rows.
@@WindingRoadCrochet I’m going to make one as written, and the. Use it as a guide for a hdc version. I just like how fast and squishy hdc is! Making tons for all the babies being born in my family in the next 4-6months 😅🥰

Love this! But it doesn't fit over my 1 1/2 year olds head :( lol. Can I make it bigger by doing more rows for the collar?

You are very welcome.
Love this bib, thank you.

What is measurements of front of bib? Is this a good bib for newborn babies? And can HD be used instead of DC?

😊
I love this but, now hear me out, hdc instead of dc. Hmm?
Honestly, you could easily swap them out. You might just have to work more or less rows depending on which one you choose.
