Sparky was right. This place is cold. Damn cold. My legs were hardly moving by the time I got into the jeep after landing, and it wasn’t because of sitting in the jet for hours. I dropped my helmet bag off to my hut, then headed straight for chow. Man I was starving… I only got halfway through my fish pie - some traditional Finnish dish that actually tastes pretty good - when Hi-Ho entered the cafeteria. Briefing in 15 minutes. Great. I guess I’ll save the rest for dinner. Everyone in the briefing room looked hungry and exhausted, but we were all excited about our first mission. Sparky took the stage. Gentlemen, this morning we got THIS close to drawing first blood before even setting foot on Finnish soil, hadn’t that Russian pilot been so dumb as to collide with the Reaper. Oh well, one less to worry about. Now don’t look so disappointed, all of us will get another chance this afternoon. So far the Russians focused their attack here - he pointed at a small town on the map - , and pushed into Finland along road 82. Their initial push was halted just outside the town of Salla, some 20 miles from the border. The FEBA is 2 miles NE of Salla, so do not engage any targets inside the town. Intel reports further armored divisions moving in from the northeast, as well as other troop concentrations along the border that may open up new fronts any minute. NATO jets have been CAPing the area in order to interdict their attack planes and helicopters, as well as to enable us to provide close air support to the troops undisturbed by MIGs and Flankers. We will take off in 2 ship elements, head to the AO and standby for tasking. The first lucky ones are Utah and Kanget, callsign Sting 4. Engine start will be on Uniform 1 and Victor 1. Lead’s to pass the mickey on Uniform 20 at 1455. First check-in at 1500 then takeoff at 1510 hours. You’ll need to be on station over the town by 1530. After leaving Rovaniemi airspace, check in with the NATO AWACS, callsign Chainsaw. They will either have a target for you or a FAC to work with. You’ll carry 4 AGM-65 Deltas each. At this stage our main goal is to stop the Russian advance, so you can expect this to be a tank killer mission. The bullseye for today is ROCK, a small lake about 10 miles east of Salla. We have 2 known enemy fighter bases here at Olenegorsk and over here at Severomorsk. Mainly SU-27 Flankers and MIG-31 Foxhounds. Intel also reports activity from Monchegorsk, although it’s mostly just attack planes. Although you’ll be operating outside the range of their IADS, we still don’t know exactly what we’re up against. There have been reports of SHORAD units in those convoys, as well as manpads and AAA, so you’ll need to be on your toes. Be prepared for anything. The airspace is pretty congested, we have Frogfoots and Hinds crossing the border everywhere, and those Flankers may very well slip through our screen of fighters who are too busy intercepting the attackers. Keep your heads on a swivel, and keep an eye on that RHAW. If you see a contact, don’t be shooting from the hip. We have British, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, hell even Polish fighters operating in the area, so make sure you work closely with Chainsaw to identify your contact as hostile before opening fire. We don’t want to open our records with a blue on blue. Understood? Everyone nodded. The same goes for attacking ground targets. Coalition troops are in close contact with the enemy. Make sure your Mavs are aligned. Work with your FAC, choose your attack and egress headings carefully, and remember, it’s better to come off dry if you’re not 100% certain who’s in the crosshair. Cover each other, work as a team. While one rolls in, the other fighter watches for AAA, smoke trails or bandits. Got it? Alright, Utah and Kanget, go get your gear. Scooter, Roach, you’re up next. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what we’ve been training for. Let’s go get them! As I reached my assigned jet I was greeted by my crew chief with a sharp salute and a handshake. He arrived shortly before we did, traveling in one of the squadron C-130s. I climbed up the ladder, stowed my helmet bag, then eased my way back into the seat I just got out of a few hours ago. Alright, let’s get on with this war - I muttered.
Yeah, it's weird and something you wouldn't hear, but it's there for SA to know that something is actually happening and you're not sitting there wondering.
I absolutely love this realistic type of content! From start-up to authentication. You are also doing a great job flying the mission. This mission greatly shows that it's quite easy for a IRL pilot to go "tumbleweed" or atleast miss some stuff in the cockpit (I guess thats what checklists are for ;)). It also shows that the virtual squadron I am with is using the right procedures. Keep it up, I look forward to the rest of this series. Planning to do any other campaigns for the viper?
And ofcourse you earned yourself a sub. Thanks to @bogeydope for showing your channel. Maybe a collab with the two crew chiefs of DCS would be amazing in a realistic type mission.
Thank you for the sub, however I'm not a RL pilot, I turn wrenches on them. Concurrently doing the Red flag campaign by Bunyip when I can. As for a collab, @BogeyDope and I have flown a few community Red Flag missions before in a flight, need some more though for sure!
Ground stuff is a very cool feature. I WISHHHH we could have them animated from start-up to the shutdown. Both DCS and BMS lacks that stuff. Ppl just ignores those "boring" parts apparently :(
I like this kind of start-up. DCS would do well to adopt this as a standard for the F-16. Actually for all modules. That's why I like the Phantom so much. I was an NCO in the German army (artillery troops), that's why I like all these checklists and procedures. For that reason alone I will definitely buy this campaign
Absolutely, any crew chief movement sound is over done but it serves a purpose knowing a script hasn't hung or to that something is gong on as you are sitting there waiting. I can see both sides however it's creators intent which personally I'm fine with. It's a good in between until ED ever models this stuff....which is a big ask and I don't see it ever happening unfortunately as it doesn't make them money.

@@Carbon_715 already next in the playlist for me are your red flag missions from bunyap, can't wait to check those out either.
Cant go wrong with Reflected campaigns! Thanks god he likes the same aircraft as me! 😂
This is my first Reflected Campaign and I really enjoy it
I imagine!
I went through Zone 5, Fear the Bones, Speed & Angels and right now Mig Killers. All of them fantastic work!
I'm just hoping there are going to be more viper campaigns =D
Carbon: "We're not attacking with guns","Not gonna be the hero today"
Reflected (in his secret campaign laboratory): "Oh yes, you will!"
The irony of it all 😂
@@Carbon_715 Well, you mastered it. Would have been worse if they sent T-90 and Strela-10. Looking forward for E03!
Much worse!
that's precisely how it happened, I even held my pinky finger to my mouth as I was laughing diabolically :D
@@ReflectedSimulations
Cheers Mr. Reflected "Dr.Evil" Simulations!
I can literally see it in my mind's eye. Well done!

I do like the checklist style start up
I just subscribed to your channel. Enjoyed even if a bit late to the show, lol
Thanks for subbing, never too late!

oh for sure!
The footsteps of the crew chief is bit over done
