Its still odd to me society has not realize how ahead of its time these early albums were regarding abuse, specifically towards children. How THAT was never the narrative around this band is kind of appalling. Korn is about the innocence of childhood and it being taken away. And millions of kids found solace in that and still do.

My only brother and I listened to Korn for the first time when I was 8 and he was 15 on German MTV, which was around 2003. I miss this time badly.
This was when and why he wished for his first drumkit.
It was cheap.. But we made it sound great and played along to Korn, System and Slipknot. All this made our whole life and future brighter.
We had a quite not so fun childhood with/because of our parents most of the time.. But we had each other and music.
So all thanks to my brother Marcel and Korn, from that point on and until this day -
We both play the drums really good,
He knows how to sing welI,
we made albums, videos, art and talked deeply,
we both know and know how to make good music, we know how to handle the struggles of life and lots n' lots of other stuff..
All whilest and 'cause of listening to Korn.
I love the band and of course my family and brother and always will,
for making me the person I am and wish to be today,
and for being there for me whenever everything falls apart.
I'm thankful they'll stay with me until the very end, and so will I.
    One love

Where the first album is the introduction into the deeply unsettling, creepy, dark, uncomfortable, and tragic world of Korn, this album is acceptance of that world, being entrenched in that world, living in that world, and that acceptance of the forever loss of purity. You are now forever trapped, living, eating, sleeping in the seething dark. All that remains is try to convince yourself that life is peachy.

First time listening to this album since I was a teenager(turning 40 next month). I got this album when I was either 14 or 15 when I started 9th grade and it ended up being the soundtrack to most of high-school for me. At that age I had already been playing guitar for most of my childhood and I had a giant stereo in my room and a loud ass guitar amp and cab. I learned every song on the album and every day I would blast the shit out of this album and play and scream along with every song back to back...literally shaking the whole house. Can't believe my parents were actually cool enough to put up with that every day, but man that shit was fun. This album still slaps today.

Picture this. The band is in a creative block in the studio. JD Pops a can of Pepsi Twist and drinks it. Then goes to the mic booth and does this Shit.
Everyone gets up, looks at him, and ask "tf was that?!". He plays with his hair, nervously, and answers: "Twist."
Then the rest of the band chugs down a can of pepsi twist and start composing around the weird noises JD are doing.

This Korn album made metal gritty and raw. Slipknot followed in the same style, where the messiness is part of the art.
Who would have guessed that two decades later most metal bands sound like they're off a clean & neat production line.
Korn in so many songs did with artful restraint what most bands fail to convey on their best take of their best song.

Ive always noticed the "clean" thing your talking about. Whenever I listen to even the extremely heavy modern stuff it feels like theres some spot that it just cant hit, I think higher quality recording has actually made things sound less heavy because the more expensive mics can handle more input so everything is less distorted and you dont really get that staticy sound you get when things hit the input volume limit.
