When i was 9-10 years old i became so ill that i missed school for like 2 years straight and once i got back i had to start immediately in the same class as everyone else my age. I remember the adults around me being so impressed because i caught up right away. There was no transition period, i just got on with my work lol
I agree 100% I started applying solitude to my life few months back and my learning curve has literally skyrocketed In last 6 months , I have learned more than my degree and whole school combined
My comment might be solipsistic, but I'd like to add something about going to university that I wish I knew before I went: Universities are behemoths. Global conglomerates even. Slow to change. I went to a big university on a full scholarship hoping to actually learn and to grow. Undoubtedly learning and growth happen at college, but that's not universities' main product. Universities exist primarily to create graduates, not foster genius or philanthropy or awesomeness in general. If you'd like to learn how to shut up, grind, and keep your head down, you will succeed in uni. If you want to open your mind and grow, well...it might be a total waste of time, and you might hate school. I did. I dropped out, and I wish I'd never gone. Edit: corrected syntax

Thaaat really depends on the country and the context you talk about. I went to University in the States and Germany. And in Germany everything is trimmed for science because it is publicly funded. However, one more thing: Learning to deal with a behemoth is an essential skill in a world with a lot of humans and interests. Impact is = Knowledge + Influence. There are plenty of people with mountains of knowledge and little impact. Tons of influencers with nothing to show for. University should be seen as an integration test-bed. Knowledge is a certainly an aspect, but dealing with constraints, communication skills and peer groups (even in research) is what connects a college student with a Fortune 500 board member. My 5ct. This is how we grew up, and we were told this is the only way to success and a good like. I've always thought of schools as a way to ensure that kids learned the fundamental skills of language and math and get a vasic understanding of life. But it's also so true that it is a rigid assembly line machine where kids are not free to explore and dive into true knowledge. If I apply Elon Mask's way to approach the Platonic ideal product on education: first imagine the ideal education, then figure out the tools and means to get there --maybe that's the way to rethink education.

I am respectful only because of the culture not sincerely. It took me half assery and tomfoolery to figure out what i want in life. Now I am on a completely different level. I am well aware of the numerous opportunities i failed to leverage, only because of my own ignorance and detachment to myself.

well there's much more to college than the knowledge...mostly you learn to live on your own, get along with others, socialize, and mostly just "finish something"...what you do with the degree gives you a foundation in life to build on...so if you want to go you should, the experience alone is worth the price...Class of 92/Auburn University
The internet is free, you can learn anything you truly want to learn. TH-cam doesn’t charge you 14% interest on dept you cant get rid of. College is indentured slavery, picking the pockets of future generations. Travel and make connections.

That's true even of great stand-up comics. Listen to Jerry Seinfeld or Norm Macdonald talk about how they had to write and re-write jokes again and again by themselves, in their solitude. Stand-up comics are great at being improvisational, but you can only really do that if you have a lot of jokes already in the bank to bring to the fore when needed.
