  • This is sort of an update to my small wood workshop tour I did several years ago. I haven't updated any of my tool storage needs but I keep adding new tools and hoarding scrap wood and its quickly getting out of control. If you have any ideas on how I can get this single car garage workshop organized please leave them in the comments. Its my new years resolution to get my workshop in order in 2024.

    Thanks for this video. I think most have a shop that looks like yours does right now. I can definitely relate more to a shop that looks like yours than I can a 10,000 Sq. Ft. Shop. My Shop is actually in far worse shape than yours is right now so I feel your pain. But this is a new year!

      Wow, If you shop is in worse shape I feel for you because I know how hard it is for me to get anything done in this mess of mine. I am not happy your shop is a mess but I am happy I'm not the only one so thanks brother.

    My methods for organizing were not cheap but I got a liftmaster driveshaft garage opener which freed up the space above the garage door and then i added fleximount overhead storage racks. I can put bins, plywood, 2x4s or whatever up there. I also have attic space where i store larger tools that i dont use often. garage infrastructure can get pricey and it never ends

      wow, that sounds awesome, you should make a video of it. I have a room above my garage so I couldn't put much up there. only what I could fit between the floor joist.

    dont worry id be willing to bet 95% of our shops look like that busy working instead of cleaning

      thanks, I guess I'm judging myself based on the shops I see on youtube.

    You appear to have a few 'duplicate tools?' and some which I guess are seldom used - put anything of this ilk in your 'other' garage. Ditch the tool wall and maybe build lumber storage above the bench - Im sure you dont need ALL that lumber right now - again refine what is stored in this garage and store rest in other. Best wishes.

    Where's the heavy bag?

      @jascogoods  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had to throw it away. The sand all hardened in the bottom and it was like punching a bag of concrete.

    When you did the "help this tool find a home" and started singing In The Eyes Of An Angel, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. I hate that song so much but that was HILARIOUS!!! I am in the process of getting my shop in shape right now. I just spent time building a boom arm for dust collection that has gone exponentially poorly...I'm working on a solution, but I totally get the messy shop thing. I not only want this to be my shop, but also my "man cave"...lol.

      😂😂😂 it was supposed to be one of those pet adoption animal foundation commercials. A boom arm sounds awesome, does the boom arm move? I'm trying to picture it. I'm just using a long shop vac hose right now. eventually I want to get one of the dust collectors from harbor freight. I hear they are great for the price.

      @@jascogoods Yes, the boom arm swings side to side. It is based on the following link:
      th-cam.com/video/PULn3jU1vjgs/w-d-xo.htmli=IHkAj23h1e1As2WI
      However, I made it out of MDF and it is twisting because I put a hinge in the middle of the 8' arm and I don't know how to fix this. It looks sad and is a constant reminder of my failure...lol. So, I came up with another idea of using a couple of sticks of 10' ladder rack used for building IT network structures. (Leftover from another life ago) Anyway, this
      should give me the rigidity that I need. Trying to get my dust collection up off the floor and over to my CNC.

      @@jascogoods I have a JET that I picked up on FB marketplace and it has become one of my goto tools. Now if I can get it up off the floor so I am not tripping over it.

    Every new shop or garage I have outfitted, I go to the Habitat for Humanity Re-store and buy old cabinets. There are a lot of tools you don't want to put in cabinets, but if you were to do the entire back wall with base cabinets, you would have a ton of storage, and a big work area. I like most of my stuff to be in the cabinets, because it keeps the dust off of them. And they are cheap! I did about 12' of uppers and lowers for less than $150 (About three years ago... so may be off a little) I usually use two layers of that 7/16" waferboard for the top. th-cam.com/users/shortscgHXOQu6dsw The only other "trick" I have is that I am ruthless about getting rid of stuff that I know I won't be using, both tools and supplies.
