As much of a mess the Lakai situation has been, Luis did put out a 🔥 video with those guys. It was great to see Bastien still on the gas and Roman putting out solid street footage after hammering the contests.
I own a SkateShop and both Lakai and Soletech refused to sell to me because a shop in the next city carried their brands. Bad business decisions is what ultimately led to the companies failing.
@@deadonarrival2882”core” brands are part of the issue. FA refused to sell to an actual skateshop, BC surf and sport, but sold to Zumiez instead. Dill ended up coming and asking us to carry.
I loved the brown and tan dunk high. Glad ASICS went with a mid and not a total high top. Gotta say the black and gold Japan tha just dropped looks so dope.
i will say the love i have for etnies is at least partially nostalgia. my intro to them was their heyday, like '94-'98ish, and likely peak of quality. that said, to this day i've never had a bad or even disappointing pair. even though i often shop for deals/sales/clearance, i don't think i would have been bummed on any of them at full price. that said, i don't really have a frame of reference since i haven't tried any of the bigger corporate brands to compare quality. i've personally owned asics and new balance non-skate shoes in the past and was happy with them. i think they're sick and i'd skate their shoes. adidas too. never really liked or cared for nike or converse, one stars are sick but i'd imagine uncomfortable
That’s interesting. I started skating in 99ish. Not long after was like the peak Etnies in the mall moment. No other skate brand was being worn by non-skaters like that, except maybe Element, so I wasn’t interested at all. Sal shoe and all that was before my time. Still never had a pair to this day. I realized the other day I’ve only bought big brand shoes for 10+ years. Liked all of them except Janoskis. Last core shoes I had were probably some accels or some random DVS.

There are 3 zumiez locations closer to me than anything resembling a core local shop. I’ll go to zumiez sometimes and have been happy with what they offered and what I got, except their sale boards are almost always warped. I had already been mail ordering from the ‘90s anyway. so I’ve got nobody to be loyal to but me
Same, I try to shop at some small stores sometimes but honestly Zumiez almost always gives me a better experience. There is one small shop I like to buy from but every time I order something they take a week to even ship it out the door. Meanwhile if I order from Zumiez they send it out a few hours later and I get it the next day.

I was skeptic about revamp Lakai, but the last video is really good in any aspects, they can't compare to that Blueprint's shit edit with Mike York (which is still a good skater). The old team was almost made by Girl-Choc-Lakai package deal, quite boring and predictable and since when Mike and Rick released their footage for their former company? Last time was in 2017, as captains they supposed to be on the frontline like Reynolds but they completed dissappear as pro skaters and this behaviour completely discouraged me to buy Lakai. At this point l rather see Salabanzi as main rider. ❤

The lakai buy out and team changes are the most offensive since they dropped everyone who tried to build the brand and hope to have whatever dopes can pretend it’s the same thing to keep buying the shoes. Asics is at least putting out edits, doing trips with skaters, and have some amazing skaters running the program. Even adidas etc, they have Karl Watson, Paul shier behind the scenes and part of the program. Skaters were skating in shell toes and nikes since the 80’s and 90’s. I don’t know what your point is.

People are mad they dropped Tom Asta, check on his youtube channel where he talks about it. TLDR Tom skated for them 10 years but when the company was sold he was cut with no discussion or negotiation. The reason was they don't value what he does even though he was told by the team manager he was doing great. I guess it was just a cost cutting thing, or maybe it's because he is not getting street clips. Tom took it well but you could see he was a bit upset, like if they wanted him to do something else they should have told him.
