I pulled out of GMC Savannah van LS LQ9 with my uncle on Saturday morning in Baltimore MD and Washington DC junkyards.
I respect the technology of the l.s engines work on them everyday at my job but when I get off work I get in my 78 chevy caprice with a simple 350 and ride.
I decided to go with a 4.8l LR4 to replace the 305 sbc in a 1989 camaro. And no, the route I took to make it what it is now wasn't cheap; but I built the engine to last a long time by putting the right parts in the right places and doing a bunch of research to make sure things fit the way I want them to. Most cost effective route I could find was putting a World-class T5 manual behind it, a 2005 Trailblazer SS intake on it, and a set of used LS1 corvette headers. The ECU's coming out of a 2002 Silverado 1500 matched up to a 2000 Camaro SS wiring harness complete with CAN bus and OBD2 connector. Got all the adaptors necessary to run the stock gauge cluster from the new engine without splicing wires. Scrounged for what I wanted to, paid for what I didn't, and now I have an effective direct replacement for the 305 that'll run on 89 octane without issue.

you don’t need to build it for shit head cams intake injectors boost your pushing 600+ wheel on 5k if you wanna open the block gap the rings throw gen 4 rods in it and you’ll push 1000+ all day long
Real talk even for the junkyards here in Minnesota you can find quite a few blocks but they're just turds until you actually invest and it's not going to be cheap infact far from it just to even get your basic build off the ground literally and similar cooking you got to put little blood sweat and sometimes tears quite literally into your work or dare I say masterpiece and he means a build not what some of y'all out here are calling build's with your modifications to an already complete vehicle those are called mods and there is a difference but here is one of the few channels you can actually learn about that and the proper way to do one or the other or both 💸🚗💨
Easy way to think about it.ONLY do an LS swap if your going to add power adders like Nitrous, procharger or turbo.Nothing wrong with an N/A nicely tuned small block or big block.You can make plenty of power out of a N/A non-LS motor for the street if done correctly.Dont let your friends talk you into doing something.I can tell you from experience A nicely tuned sbc 383 or 406 sbc can put out plenty of torque on the street for much less on the $ and on pump gas N/A.I run a 406 sbc with a decent trans and good rear end and love adjusting my rear view mirror 😜.Tune tune tune.Send those LS guys home thinking what just happened.

So im taking it out and dropping it in my 05 buick century, which is titled so i have a decently fast daily since the entire subframe assembly will bolt right in and work, no modifications besides wiring harness and computer
I’ve been doing crazy research on ls swap. I found a 04 RX-8 for $500. But I’d have to find a differential, cross members, and T55/56 manuals which are either rare or expensive. What made me not do the swap is all the fabrications I’d have to make to the body. With my research and estimates. I’d spend 10-15k i didn’t calculate all the interior things I’d want to replace like gaskets. What I’ve learned is ls swap are common but not as easy people make it seem. You gotta go in knowing what it’ll take for your swap. My plan now is to buy a caprice or an affordable performance car or even a rsx and just deal with the problems.
next chevy i get is just gonna get a new summit engine block cast in germany. 1900.00 an just build a 406 or buy a GM 454 block and make it a 489/496 stroker and have the HP and the tq. and the parts are gonna be less my mercury is gonna stay ford. i know guys LS swap it but i aint doin that. i want an LS....ill buy an LS powered car IMO..but yall do you. thats what makes the car world nice. everyone dont have the same ideas
There is a huge disconnect between the people who swap their engine themselves vs the people who ship around to find others to pull the engine from a source then install it. The people who do it themselves are dwindling as well....

Flat cost of LS swap, JZ, 5.0, k series, any swap on rx8 is 10k+ not even build. Wanted to swap it, opted for a hybrid renesis bc that kept the low weight and COG for the track and gave me a safe 550 whp which I'm happy with

87 305 that came stock with 145HP. Anything LS is a major upgrade, even your 'dogs' are an easy double the HP of the factory 305 from the 80's. Ppl are dropping $2k, $3k, $4k or more, just trying to gain 20+ HP on a newer motor, and for less money an LS swap from an 80's 305 is adding @ 150HP or more. Value? Oh H*ll yes it is. And that's not to mention retiring the Quadrajet in the process.

Not exactly. The Coyote can drop into the manual new edge sn95 Mustangs. You only need a fuel system in the wiring harness. With that setup granted you should build the transmission.

I put a 5.7 in a 81 el Camino in 2006- I just changed the intake and dropped a carb on it - it was scary … i regret getting rid of it

You can if you have the knowledge. As far as it fitting it'll be a drop-in fit.
You can swap anything pretty much with exception of a semi engine or a merlin you should be able to stuff anything anywhere

That sx4 engine bay is very small, and to mount the motor transverse would not work unless you work out fabrication and move the firewall back
