Celsius is much more logical than Fahrenheit! Maybe just my opinion, but for me it makes sense that water becomes ice, and rain becomes snow when temperature hits below zero
My favourite Finnish things: Erittäin hieno suomalainen terva shampoo; hiilisavusilakka from the kauppatori; Vichy vettä after sauna; seeing the shadow of the Mannerheim statue against the Kiasma as I cycle through Helsinki at night; the cutlery clock at Lasipalatsi; sitting with friends at Löyly sauna-baari....I should do my own TH-cam show too.
You should read the Moomin novels by Tove Jansson, you can get them in English from Amazon. There are 9 novels (8 officially since one is a collection of short stories). I have read all of them many times. They are fine for children and adults alike and I still find new things from them the older I get. My favourite has to be the last one Jansson wrote before she died, Moominpappa at Sea. That clearly has the most adult themes and some really deep stuff.
It's weird and funny (and sort of cute) how foreigners seem to know more about Finland than I do sometimes. I live here, but I couldn't name a single local specialty shop and I have a very general understanding of what the famous brands make. When foreign people ask me about stuff I just reply with "I dunno, I just live here". I don't own any of the brand name stuff from Marimekko, have zero moomin mugs in my apartment and I buy none of the candy or food products everyone who visits Finland seems to know......but my cousin from the U.S will buy that stuff by the bulk, like the last time she was in Finland she bought so many Marimekko towels and brand clothes and all kinds of moomin stuff for her kids....I think her kids are gonna grow up around more stuff made in Finland than I did, and they're in Florida. I guess it has to do with me being so used to living in Finland it's not really special to me......foreigners are always going on about the beautiful nature and saunas and stuff and I'm just shrugging and going "I guess.....wanna go grab a beer or sumthin?".
In my opinion the style of the mug at 2:40 is actually green algae. Like the high plants that grow in sea. I may be wrong but that came in my mind because there was fish at the bottom of mug
That ending was possibly the most out-of-left-field movie reference I've ever seen in a TH-cam video, and I'm kind of surprised how vividly I remember that part because it's been like 20 years since I last saw that movie. Well done.
I love watching your videos! I feel like you're really natural on camera it's like listening to a friend :) you should do other videos too not just about Finland.
The metal mug you have has been coated with colourful glass. In Finland we call that "emali". I checked online and apparently in English it is called "vitreous enamel". It probably is not that dangerous to put it into microwave oven. In the early times they had a huge problem with metal, but nowadays many microwave ovens allow you to put metal in them. Just that microwaving cold coffee is hideous and you should not do that. So when using that mug is probably the best choise is to drink the coffee hot. Also metal reflects the microwaves so it would probably not heat up the liquid in it very well.
Jukka-Pekka Tuominen Actually microwaves induce eddy currents in the metal making it substantially hotter. That's why thin metal layers start sparking or even catch fire. Metal forks are particularly vulnerable. A thick mug like that probably would just get warm or hot but nothing dramatic wouldn't happen.
Enamel mugs are made of metal that's been covered with glass. You shouldn't microwave enamel mugs, as advised by Muurla. You can wash them in the dishwasher though. muurla.com/en/product/203 "Dishwasher safe, do not use in microwave."
@Anna Umm... No. Enamel refers to the coating and most enamel mugs are ceramic, probably simply because, in practice, all ceramic mugs and dishes really need to be coated in enamel, at least partially, on the inside, for basic usability and durability and for washing. Those specific mugs you linked to happen to be metal mugs, as one can plainly see, and also have enamel coating (paint) on them. Just because they are metallic, it doesn't mean all other mugs are. Most mugs on the video are clearly ceramic, with the excpetion of the last one, which is clearly a metal mug. (The link was broken, but it was easy to find the mugs.)
Metal does reflect microwave (think radars), but in this case Eemeli is right. Radar and microwave ovens are very different things. Yes, theoretically a radar would detect a mug with metal particles more easily than one without them as the ray would supposedly reflect back better, but in the case of microwave ovens where there's a stong, contained, fluctuating field of microwave energy being used to heat the water molecules, you simply end up creating eddy currents in the metal particles and heating the metal. Whatever the amount of energy is the coating absorbs is negligible to the heating process because there's so little of it. There isn't enough metal in the coating to form a Faraday cage, either, to protect the inside, and it wouldn't be closed anyway.
Fun fact: putting unopened beer or soda can in microwave oven won't actually do anything. Not too long ago when I was working at a small IoT company I was demonstrated that. One of my co-workers put an unopened beer can into microwave and turned it on. There were no sparks or anything and after the demonstration the can wasn't even warm. I presume it was because the can was relatively smooth in form (no extruding points or the like).
You can really sense your feelings of longing and appreciation for, and personal connection with Helsinki in this video. For a moment it's making me feel amicable towards this city I'm so used to. 😄 I hope you're finding happiness in the States!
Hey I stumbled across your account today and I can't understand why you haven't waaaaay more subscribers. I love your channel, it's so pure and sweet. Don't know how to describe it otherwise. And I have ALL the things except of the book but I know exactly what you're talking about!!!! Im the awkward here in Germany. Thank you so much for sharing all of your memories.
This is the first video of yours that I watched. I'm half Finnish so it was in my recommended :) The thing that made me sub is "I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DANCE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT" Perfection.
Snusmumriken like we call him in Norwegian, is that vise traveller that like speaks less, but says a lot ^^ he's not too attached to anything or anyone & has a huge heart. He also plays this beautiful music on his harmonica 😊 I watched the show all the time as a kid & I still watch it from time to time. Since I found episodes here 😄
5:50 You shouldn't microwave it but you can heat it up on the stove. The bottom of the cup may suffer from it a little though. I often use my super old cup for melting butter when baking :D
Hi! I think that this is your most important video. If I feel bad I look this again and immediately I just smile. Thank You for this happy vlog. That is Great!
I don't think I've ever been this entertained by mugs. And for five minutes nevertheless! I wonder if there's a mug available with the Helsinki fish 🤔 Also, thumbs up for the new concept, Tyler Time is dope!
I completely agree with you about the bookmarks, I've just never been able to word as correctly as you did. I also own some muumi mugs & bowls from the last time I visited my parents in Finland (I live in Australia). Love your videos:)
The black with the bear is an enamel mug. It can stand heat. Don't put it into a microwave due metal content. I remember my Mom (and her Mom) warming up butter, sugar and oatmeal in it on the stove, it was put on the buns before baking them in the owen, but to a child, it was very delicious as such. I think people use them when they are camping these days.
I was so afraid you'd drop the precious mugs when handling them with such enthusiasm :D But it's so great to have you back with the videos, I've missed your randomness! :)
I'm glad that you're back and so soon since the last video! U seem more relaxed nowadays than compared to in Finland (just an observation, no shade), which is nice to see. Might just be that you are a year older and wiser :)
So you have coffee mugs from the three best glass/dish/design places of Finland. I have a a nice set of Arabia dishes my iso mummu hand carried over to the States with her, that I treasure... then a shot glass set, a bowl, some candlesticks and a orchid vase from iitala... and finally a tablecloth and placemats from Maremekko. Which, if I'm not mistaken, I think they made a deal with Target and now allow them to sell a limited amount of their things. Again... love your videos. Sad you're no longer in Suomi, but something tells me you'll probably be back for a visit.
Send the postcards out to all and sundry without crossing out sweetheart. Own it! Also, Life in America: An apartment tour, and thoughts on life. Thats what your next episode needs to be :)
I have the same white Iittala mug as you do! It is my all time favorite mug ever! I also have the same one in light pink with knit pattern on it. I also didn't realize they were trees and I thought they were arrows for about a year too. But seriously Iittala has some of the best mugs out there specially for drinking coffee. As a mug collector that is my opinion :D And I also have similar Marimekko mugs but with the black and white flower pattern and the city pattern.

True, collaboration also with Converse, Clinique and the Japanese Uniqlo chain. In Finland their biggest partner is Finnair, their cabins have plenty of Marimekko designs, pretty cool.
mikrokupu Yep! I’ve always wanted to fly the ”Marimekko airplane”, just for the heck of it and to see how it’s different from their normal planes :D (I’m Finnish!)
All their planes have similar Marimekko details inside the cabin, pillows, paper cups and such, the larger planes have more stuff. But yes, the A350 aircraft with Marimekko "Kivet" paintings on it looks cool and the new A350s are more comfy and fresh :) The yellow "Unikko" patterns are gone already, the smaller pattern is still left on an older plane, hopefully more coming.
I have learned since childhood that emali mugs (the "metal" one with a bear) should not be used in microwave.... Don't know if technic of microwaves have changed during time, but just to be sure I would advice not to put it into micro 😃
When ur commeing back to Finland, (#ImfromFinland) you HAVE to visit in Lappland!! There is Soooooo beautifull specually in winter, summer and autum :))))))
Hello! I love your videos. I did my Erasmus in Finland and fell in love with the country, thinking of going back there. What are you doing in Finland? I would like to go and teach Spanish and English but haven't met anyone who has done that in Finland. Could you share some info?
Happy NEWS 2021 Year ! Have You Done any TH-cam Videos ? There are somany things People have No Idea about ! Did You learn any of suomi or svenska - and how to teach languages ? I mean the teknik - how to LEARN a New Language ?
I have a moomin mug which seems to be very similar to your kaffa roastery mug (?) I've just put it in the microwave and it didn't break :D I usually just put everything in the microwave without even thinking, luckily I haven't broken anything!
Celsius is much more logical than Fahrenheit! Maybe just my opinion, but for me it makes sense that water becomes ice, and rain becomes snow when temperature hits below zero

Me too, Lenni!
I have the same name as you epiiic
"If you don't know angry birds then where have you been living, Sweden?"
Me (because I'm a finn): *Hysterical laughter*😂😂
Jessica Kampe I think "Sweden? Get out of here." should be our national motto
These are so interesting to watch!! I never met you but i kind of miss you in Finland, idk? (And yes Jackie wore Marimekko in 1960!)

Or the age old comicbooks, those are pretty rad! o_0 wouldn't read them to my kids. :D
At the end of your Snufkin mug introduction, i realized i'm at the moment drinking coffee out of the exact same mug. How finnish of me. 🙄
Stella Annie nice ^^
Snufking its called snufking in english? Dafugggggg

You should make a video on "why Finland messes you up"! As a Finn i'd love to know. :D

8:28 "...another design shop here in Finland". Your subconscious mind is in Finland. hahaha
It's lovely to see you making videos again, it has been too long :
Thank you!
Yeah we have a mug and a cafe problem.
Come back to Finland when you can. Nice to see you doing videos again
You asked, I have 79 moomin mugs...
Tina Aikaa ArMy? oh my
Jimins No1 fanboi Bts fightinggg, LOL! Jimins my bias too! Such a great week it has been with the 5 years celebration!
Tina Aikaa haha indeed! Waiting for the prom to start, and hitting up BigHit so they'd see the wap2!3! video :'')
Jimins No1 fanboi Yep, doing the same here 😁
I was frustrated at first when you called the trees arrows 😂😂 love the marimekko mug!!
I love watching your videos! I feel like you're really natural on camera it's like listening to a friend :) you should do other videos too not just about Finland.

Moomin mugs are indeed fantastic. I have many of them. Greeting from Finland!

I think those arrows are meant to be spruces, aka your source of fiber back in Finland. Definitely one of my favourite mugs as well :)
Haha, wow how could I have been so oblivious?! The fiber reference goes wayyyy back. Thanks for watching :)
Yes, they even look like spruces, don't they :) That lovely mug is called Metsä (Forest).
This vid was so fun to watch, Thank You! Lovely that You liked Finland and Helsinki so much. Greetings from Rovaniemi, Finland.
You really should read the moomin books. Their really good and not at all "for children"
Uhh
That Fish with Helsinki in it IS COOL!
Hi
Glad you comeback and making videos.
I'm from Florida but just about a month moved here( Espoo, Finland).
Iove here💙👍
This is the first video of yours that I watched. I'm half Finnish so it was in my recommended :) The thing that made me sub is "I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DANCE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT" Perfection.
If it looks like Marimekko or Wes Anderson, give it to me! 💙🇫🇮
Don’t put that black mug in to microwave, it has enamel which contains metal
We have more moomin mugs than we have normal glasses
Snusmumriken like we call him in Norwegian, is that vise traveller that like speaks less, but says a lot ^^ he's not too attached to anything or anyone & has a huge heart. You were right about Jackie Kennedy wearing Marimekko.
5:50 You shouldn't microwave it but you can heat it up on the stove. The bottom of the cup may suffer from it a little though. I often use my super old cup for melting butter when baking :D
Hey man! Like the videos! The Wes Andersson reference is Mannerheim wearing a tonttulakki (Xmas hat. Roughly translated as “Elf hat”).
Love Tyler Time!!! Glad you're back!!
Hi! I think that this is your most important video. If I feel bad I look this again and immediately I just smile. Thank You for this happy vlog. That is Great!

I love this! Tyler time sounds nice.😊
I too love muumi mugs, my friend bought me one with the wizard and his panther, it's pretty cool.😁
Marimekko has a flagship store on 5th Ave in NYC, near the Flatiron Building. Our most well-known brand outside of Nokia, I guess =)
Tyler time is a great name!
indeed it is!
Thanks! :)
Kaffa is the best 😍 I was so happy when I saw you showing the coffee! : D Go Tyler ✌️
I'm glad that you're back and so soon since the last video! U seem more relaxed nowadays than compared to in Finland (just an observation, no shade), which is nice to see. Might just be that you are a year older and wiser :)
Love that all of these are from my neighborhood in Punavuori ❤️
''kauniste'' is a finnish word that means a ''thing to make something look beautiful with'' :)
Moomin mugs are timeless
That mug is made of a vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel (emali in finnish) and that material was very popular a few decade ago.
I also have one moomin mug and it's my favorite in every way! They sure are the best!
As an American who lived for a year in suomi, I also brought back my mugs and other memorabilia! There is a marimekko shop in nyc
every time he says next item and claps it reminds me of pewdiepie
Meme *clap* Review *clap*
MEME REVIEW
I thought the exact same thing 😂
👏👏 meme review 👏👏
Send the postcards out to all and sundry without crossing out sweetheart. Own it!
Also, Life in America: An apartment tour, and thoughts on life. Thats what your next episode needs to be :)
5:25 it's an enamel (non see-through glass) coated metal cup.
Im from finland and its funny to watch your reaction to finnish thinks
OMG YOU ARE BACK!
Finland makes you crazy, but you love it. 😍
My personal favorite from the Moomin mugs is Special Edition 2017 by Arabia - Moominvalley because it has a background story.
Ooh, I like answering questions
Tyler we actually lived in the same house in Finland, i noticed it just now XD
off topic, but can't help to notice how neat your bedside table is :o mine is always overflowing with stuff like phone cables, pictures, hair clips, brushes, cat toys...i envy your ability to keep things tidy :DD
as a finn, swedish finn, i can tell you that salmon soup is for all year round!!! :D the black kaffa mug is probably made out of "emalj" and is lightweight and good for bringing with you on hikes and picnics. :) you're funny! come back to finland, we need you here.
I have all the mugs you mentioned but all with different prints 😀
Cool video, I appreciate the emotion analysis! You do look like Snufkin (Nuuskamuikkunen) too.
Embassy is like your home away from home. You as a Us citizen are technically in US when you walk through the embassies doors. Ps! Love your videos and hi from Turku. You are internally a Finn :)
Great see u back here. U shoud move back.
You know what I like about Finland (and miss terribly)? Black licorice ice cream from Valio.
Finland is the best!
It's pretty awesome for sure. ;)
If I moved back to the states, I would miss the dish cupboards that you can dry your dishes over the sink.
The Christmas Vacation reference at the end😂😂👍
;)
The trees looked like spruce trees
Omg! I totally feel you! Finland does mess you up :D in the best way, I like to believe... You forgot Ruisleipä
I love those mugs!
Have you done a Finland v US pros & cons video? Here are my queries- healthcare, buying a home, dual citizenship, other stuff people like me don’t think about but should
Tyler. You should do more than only Finland related videos.
Snufkin is my favorite moomin character as well! Yes, lovely moomin-series mug motifs as always and i love iittala designs too! :D Especially the Helmikasti designs!

That bear mug is really nice too! Also, the mug is made out of Emalj..or i don't know that that word is in english now.. well it's i guess a metal.
I LOVE THOSE BOOKMARKS! *_*
I liked this vid alot, keep in making vids! :)I got so excited over this vid!
Finally after almost a year :D
I think the Moomins are probably popular in Europe? I had my first Moomin book when I was 8 and I live in Bulgaria...:)
That black mug is enamelled ;) and dont put it in a microwave :)
Target also had a collaboration with Marimekko :) They sold outdoorsy stuff with Marimekko’s patterns and styles!

But yes, the A350 aircraft with Marimekko "Kivet" paintings on it looks cool and the new A350s are more comfy and fresh :) The yellow "Unikko" patterns are gone already, the smaller pattern is still left on an older plane, hopefully more coming.
mikrokupu Ok, cool! Thanks :)
And Marimekko actually has some stores in the US, too.
The fish on the bottom of your arrow mug made me think that the arrows are actually seaweed.
Mugs are awesome! :D I have a mug problem also, around 80 already in my collection.
80!?!?!
Yeah, as said, I realize I have a problem :D Around half of them are Moomin.
Hello! I love your videos. I did my Erasmus in Finland and fell in love with the country, thinking of going back there. What are you doing in Finland? I would like to go and teach Spanish and English but haven't met anyone who has done that in Finland. Could you share some info?

I could hear both Ks in Tikkanen. Well done. Few native English speakers manage that.
I want to buy a mug from Marimmekko. They have some really nice illustrations in black and white. but that Moomin mug is cute.
Aahh you just showed the mug I wanted to buy 😂
I am going the next year to kuopio
Any advice?
I could watch a whole 20 minutes video about your mugs honestly.
I'm feeling this guy... I collect mugs too! :D
I have lots of Moomin mugs in my house, I am half Finnish! :)
