Definitely an artist, you didn't check The accuracy of the measuring part of the device

What is the advantage over a traditional compass? They draw literally perfect circles every time, are easily collapsed to fit in your drawing bag, are easily controlled for different diameter circles, you can set the center point, and you don't get the deflection that you're going to see by drawing a pencil freehand up against an elevated edge (As your pencil tilts, your line will migrate off.), and they're like $5.

It's crazy to me that I've never heard of this tool before despite looking up heaps of videos and techniques on how to quickly draw circles.
Today I was even trying to cut the centre out of a plastic lid to create a ring shape, so that I could see if the outer circle lined up properly with the ones inside of it, then suddenly I'm seeing videos for this specific tool everywhere.
    Thanks for your review.

I like this for the novelty but honestly I think I’ll just stick with my trusty circle template and compass. It’s a beautiful object but I know I’d have issues with it not being transparent especially for placing overlapping circles.

The Iris tool has been advertised all over social media and cost around $100 USD. There are cheaper ones on Amazon that are about $25 with the same design. Would you happen to know the difference in quality versus the cheaper ones if you've tried it?

    Iris Circle
    Aesthetic: 10

    Circle template
    Aesthetic: 6

So yeah I feel like most ppl can do with circle templates if they were gonna buy something dedicated to drawing circles xD

I got one off Amazon that was a knockoff. Turning it was a pain, too much tension, and it didn't have a rubber bottom so with the tension in it, you had to push really hard on the surface to grip the smooth top, and the sides weren't as prominent.

I have watched and read the comments I personally can find a use for this tool as I am visually impaired and yes I have every tool on the market to try to draw circles/elipse but I can't line up my stencils etc. so this is a wonderful find.
Thank you. Just as a note I really do have very tool available. I was told that I am not a real "artist" to me if I use an aid to do something for me why does that mean I am no longer a true artist.

    • @mattmatthews5414

This looks like the last thing anyone who mentions that they’re disabled would want. The ones that’re built well and cost as much as a cheap bicycle still need two hands to function. When I had a broken wrist, my stencils collected dust while my compass got a workout. This thing looks like torture to try to be productive with.

While this thing is pretty nifty and looks super nice....I have a circle ruler that has one overall large size, and then there's little stencils for smaller ones on the inside! It's never failed me, it was like $10, and it's larger than this one.... just slightly less convenient, I suppose. I also have some smaller stencils for various shapes! They are all plastic, however.

that'll probably be plastic though which would mean it would move pretty easily when drawing. also you will most likely have either an uneven circle or skips in the line where your pencil would catch on the mekanism. aliexpress is good tho if you really cant afford this thing but honestly id just go for a compass or something similar like a stencil :'D
