I have been playing this game absolutely flat out since it released on switch. It's absolutely fantastic and 100 percent deserves its place in gaming history.
Remake is not related to ea games and BIOWARE so I'm hoping it doesn't take the defective cheap plastic gta trilogy route and goes for the authentic jedi fallen and let's. Hope of it takes 4 - 7 years that it becomes a Master piece
@@Alex8MRD An update on the 21st made the Combat text smaller. It clips into the top of the TV/Switch screen now. I've also experienced crashes every 5 to 6 hours(this is a sign of a memory leak) of prolonged play. I also had a bug where I skipped one of the trials for the first Star Map, the cut-scene of my PC and party just started playing. Twice I've warped into loading zones from out of nowhere.
With some star wars games like republic commando being remastered for Playstation and had trophies added, I really wish we had achievements added to at least some original xbox games and especially both KotOR's!
That’s pretty sad about the lack of audio, I didn’t realize but I’d love to hear carth say “down you go!” haha. I also agree that the screen during combat is very intrusive. Hope they fix it with an update
I still find the turn based, dice rolling combat style to still be extremely fun to play for me it can but more fun to play than some remakes that go action combat. I wouldn't mind more games coming with the Kotor gameplay styke.
If you've never played this game, getting this on the Switch is a no-brainer. What a game. I played through both KOTOR games on Xbox when they became backwards compatible and they still hold up so well. I may be in the minority on this, but I think KOTOR 2 is even better than the original.
kotor 2s really good but the fact it was never finished and you NEED mods to make it good and those mods add really shitty areas that were obvious why they were left out makes it impossible for me to say its actually better, kotor 1 is just a finished product and kotor 2 aint. thats the short of it but again both are amazing
Love the Switch version and currently progressing through the game. I enjoy the fact that you can play it on the go wherever you are - truly a relaxing game to be immersed in! The only downside, I agree, is the combat panel notification which is a bit intrusive and no sounds from characters when you select them or during combat cries. But other than that I am very happy with it! Hope they amend these things with KOTOR2 for Switch when they release it.
Loved playing it on Switch. After finishing it, I had to struggle not to immediately start a new file. Hopefully they bring KotOR II to the Switch as well!
@@lizandrodavid There are side quests and a few mini games that can add some time, but it typically takes me between 20 and 30 hrs for a playthrough. Can vary a few hours depending on difficulty settings and how familiar you are with the game.

@@anilnizam1194 you dont need more fps in a game like this. On pc you get mods and it is 100% the best way to Play it. Kotor 2 restored content you even get one more planet. And no it dont run 60 fps on switch
Its a matter of opinion kid, some people love to play it on consoles you need to grow up and respect peoples opinions kid. Just to add not everyone likes keyboard and mouse and mods when playing games
A patch has now been released that reportedly fixes the issue with the gigantic text box and the lack of certain NPC sounds. I was waiting for them to fix that before buying the Switch version. Not checked the new updated version out yet but I will do very soon. EDIT: Have played it and yes, they've made that box smaller and more unobtrusive, and NPC sounds are all there as far as I can tell.

Ordered the Master Edition for sure! After already buying it digitally for only €12,99. Its been one of my favorite games since i got the first version on the OG Xbox. After that i also bought it on PC and Phone. (but the controls suck) love this game!

One of the best games I’ve ever played and will play. By far. Kotor 1 was one of the games I logged the most hours in. Played it on OG Xbox and fell in love. I still have the OG Xbox game manual
I'm also a HUGE KOTOR fan! I only hope they release KOTOR 2 for Switch, too! The only complaint I had was many of the sound effects are gone...like Mission saying 'On it" and 'Done". Or the great sounds of the Vulkars dying. LOL Still, AMAZING! I'm sooo happy it came out just in time for my birthday! OMG! 'Playing KOTOR in bed is a spiritual experience' - BIG Facts! I could not agree with you more! And because I've played through this game SO, So, so many times - I can play it casually while waiting in the Doctor's office or at the pharmacy (thanks to my Bluetooth headset), all while enjoying a game that holds so many happy memories. Nice review!
I'd like this version on the other platforms as well like playstation having the original version if even if its this slightly modified version on the PS4/5 would be nice so that its not just the remake but both thats available to fans to choose from. I still might slightly prefer the PC version for modding purposes only but otherwise I'd probably still enjoy playing it on my PS4 with proper widescreen support as well as gamepad support without mods with the inputs I prefer.
Just picked this up due to my friend’s recommendation. Its really sweet! Im playing using a guide to avoid wasting time not knowing where to go and stuff but this game hasnt really aged outside of the graphics
Only thing I'm not a huge fan of and it's a minor irk, is that if you don't close the game (which I never do when playing games/going into sleep mode) it will stack your hours of gameplay even with the switch in sleep mode. I wasn't even on Taris and I had 34+ hours into the game. I don't think I should have to close the game every time just because I want to maintain the game time. Not a major issue lol but just a lil something.

I also have a physical copy ordered from Limited Run. *One thing I must say: I truly hope this no longer has the Carth glitch.* I still have my OG Xbox copy, & even with all the times I played it, I still never made it past that Carth glitch (even with researching how to avoid it). I truly hope Apsyr fixed that game breaking glitch. Did you run into it?
This will be my third time playing, my first two runs were on two different original xboxs and they both got the dreaded red ring of death before i was able to beat it so im really looking forward to experiencing the full game to the end this time and cant wait to start playing on Jan 3rd 2024 😊
The best way to play KOTOR is still on a desktop pc with HD textures and 16:9 widescreen mods. That being said, this is the best way to play the game portably. Prior to this, I was using a laptop to play on-the-go. Playing on a laptop feels inconvenient and impractical when compared to the Switch. Solid port.
I remember putting in mad hours trying to finish everything on the xbox, glad to see this is ported over to the Switch and will definitely be getting this game
Now, I swear I'm going crazy. I played KOTOR on a kindle a few years ago, and in combat, you could stack 4 attacks, versus the Switch and stacking 2. And the 2 only stack once the 1st attack is going into effect. Is it the Soldier class that specifically does this? Or am I misremembering?
Honestly, the massive text bubble and the lack of sounds (war cries, deaths, etc) have ruined this experience for me. The world feels lifeless now. Hopefully this is something Aspyr fixes but I doubt it.
There is no reason for a re-make of KOTOR, a graphical remaster and tweaking like Mass Effect Legendary would be fine. I have a bad feeling about any “re-make” especially since the original writers are not involved. Glad this classic is becoming more available for gamers!
KOTOR and it’s sequel we’re amazing games for their time. And even today the story and characters are in a league of their own. But damn, that combat system is dated as hell. I still can’t believe that BioWare made KOTOR 1 and 2 then followed up with mass effect trilogy. Say what you want about the ending but that trilogy was also amazing. Then andromeda and anthem… I mean wtf. Talk about a fall from grace

thanks for the review Matty, question, does this port come with any addtional upgrades modders made for the PC version? i know KOTOR II is not nearly as good without certain Mods but can't remember if the original game is fine without them, and if this version has any installed
The analytical video based on the game's story would be dope. I'm looking forward to the current console remake and although they said that the gameplay will be altered like modern games,the gameplay kind of turns me off. Reminds me of the Pokemon games. Anyways,as always,great game.

Kotor is my all time favorite game. I played through 1 and 2 at least 7 times. I have the physical, digital and mobile versions. I can't wait for the remake! I'm disappointed it's a PS5 exclusive since I play on xbox. I will buy a PS5 as soon as I can though.
I have this on IOS and that port has all the audio cues. Honestly the lack of those is whats keeping me from getting the switch version. If they fix that and the oversized UI then they'll have my money.
I've had this game since 2003 when it came out for Xbox I got it again just last week and I already have over 40 hours invested in the game my biggest concern is that help window that pops up when combat starts
The lack of audio also got to me,having playing kotor for many years consistently,it constantly feels like something is missing,other than that its looks and performs superb
One thing that was missing in the iOS port was the ability to spin your lightsaber(s) as you walked around. Did this get left out of the switch version too?
Man I didn't even know this game was for switch, I would of bought one earlier! I always hoped to see it pop up on the PlayStation but never did! Now I really regret waiting so late to buy one I actually love the hell out of mine!
Not sure weather to get this version or wait to see if a remake happens. I wouldn't have thought Disney would want to push Legends material, but I don't want to rule anything out.
I wonder if it still has the saving/autosaving glitch. The autosave and hard saves constantly become corrupt or glitch out on the Xbox version. This makes the saves impossible to access, either getting stuck in an infinite loading screen or returning you to the title screen.
I already have it in PC but if I didn’t I’d have gotten on XB1X. I want to know what the Switch adds to it if anything. I’ll get it if there are quality of life improvements! Large SD cards are a must for the Switch. Problem solved.
Don't, the only thing Switch version adds is a ginat "COMBAT MODE" header at the top of the screen that takes five times more space than it needs obstructing your view every time you are in combat.
Waiting for a possible PS4 release, they might do some more work on it and work on the UI, LRG does release for 1 platform sometimes and for another later down the road.
Are they going to put kotor 2 on switch or not because of the state that game is in maybe they could at the sith Lords mod to a possible release of kotor 2 but I don't know if that can do that 🤔

Is anyone else worried like I am about the KOTOR remake? After seeing the cluster-fvck that was the GTA Remaster I honestly worry that any remake of classic games would be that bad.
There already is a pretty good way to play Kotor on the go with the Phone port which does keep all the sound cues. If it were me I bet they patch them back in and it’s a bug, but hey more ways to play Kotor the better.
Maybe they’ll update it later to fix the things that are wrong but I’m just wondering if they got rid of the glitches that were in the console game. Also when you order this game physically do you pay upfront?
I've bought this game on the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox one and series x, a Android tablet, PC,and finally the switch. I love the switch version because of all the cheat codes. I use to download the mods when I had the PC version. Honestly I know this game like the back of my hand. When I play kotor 2 I find out something new everytome which is nice. But I think out of the two I prefer the original
got KOTOR on sale and used my eshop coins, best $5 spent lol. speaking of back stories, the only other game I can say I loved every characters story was legend of dragoon on PS1. just so much depth on every character even kid you never used them

I think I might’ve liked the theme or message of 2 better. The dark side ending was beautiful imo, and darth traya was an all time great character

Reason why I bought an xbox generation 1 when I was a kid convincing my dad to buy it,. This game coming to switch os a game changer not only that ps5 remake 💪
It is also being released on PC. The Switch is the only console it's being released to at the moment.

Is this (and mobile) the only official way to play this in wide-screen? I can't believe they've ported this to everything but the pc version still hasn't got an update yet
That's correct. They updated KotOR 2 on PC with widescreen but not the first game. Still need to use UniWS.

I really hope they won't screw up the story in the remake.. i'm sure graphically and mecanics will be fine.. but i fear they'll change aspects of the story for the worst..
How long would people say this game is (if you want to enjoy side quests & conversation, not just blitz the story as fast as possible)? I really want to play it but don’t have a lot of time at the moment :(
35 to 45 hours on average. Also depends on how completionist you want to go.

Im geting the Master Edition for the Switch. Im exited will be my first time ever playing KOTOR.
Kotor is my all time favorite game. I played through 1 and 2 at least 7 times. I have the physical, digital and mobile versions. I can't wait for the remake! I'm disappointed it's a PS5 exclusive since I play on xbox. I will buy a PS5 as soon as I can though.

Technically Koyor 1 & 2 were both made mobile about a year or 2 ago on some App Stores. Still cool, just an FYI for people
I have this on IOS and that port has all the audio cues. Honestly the lack of those is whats keeping me from getting the switch version. If they fix that and the oversized UI then they'll have my money.

I've had this game since 2003 when it came out for Xbox I got it again just last week and I already have over 40 hours invested in the game my biggest concern is that help window that pops up when combat starts
Matty, you need to watch Noah Gervais’s video KOTOR vs Joseph Campbell. You will never find a better analysis of those games.
The lack of audio also got to me,having playing kotor for many years consistently,it constantly feels like something is missing,other than that its looks and performs superb
One thing that was missing in the iOS port was the ability to spin your lightsaber(s) as you walked around.

Man I didn't even know this game was for switch, I would of bought one earlier! I always hoped to see it pop up on the PlayStation but never did! Now I really regret waiting so late to buy one I actually love the hell out of mine!
Not sure weather to get this version or wait to see if a remake happens. I wouldn't have thought Disney would want to push Legends material, but I don't want to rule anything out.
I was excited for this but then I learned that it is turn based and you can miss which I hate but I am still willing to give it a try

I wonder if it still has the saving/autosaving glitch.
The autosave and hard saves constantly become corrupt or glitch out on the Xbox version.
This makes the saves impossible to access, either getting stuck in an infinite loading screen or returning you to the title screen.
Probably, it wouldn't be KOTOR if it didn't condition players to make as many separate saves as possible
I'll still play the Xbox version on my Xbox One.
I thought this one was just a flat out port.. Not a real remake.. so hopefully it'll still be as great as it was.
I already have it in PC but if I didn’t I’d have gotten on XB1X. I want to know what the Switch adds to it if anything. I’ll get it if there are quality of life improvements! Large SD cards are a must for the Switch. Problem solved.
Don't, the only thing Switch version adds is a ginat "COMBAT MODE" header at the top of the screen that takes five times more space than it needs obstructing your view every time you are in combat.

The missing dialog bugs me. Especially with the file size being so much larger than the original.. Might wait and see if they patch this.
Waiting for a possible PS4 release, they might do some more work on it and work on the UI, LRG does release for 1 platform sometimes and for another later down the road.
Are they going to put kotor 2 on switch or not because of the state that game is in maybe they could at the sith Lords mod to a possible release of kotor 2 but I don't know if that can do that 🤔

I wish they would port this version to X box/PS, it looks like they’re doing the same thing with KOTOR 2 on Switch but even worse because the restored content will be on Switch but not X box
Is anyone else worried like I am about the KOTOR remake? After seeing the cluster-fvck that was the GTA Remaster I honestly worry that any remake of classic games would be that bad.
There already is a pretty good way to play Kotor on the go with the Phone port which does keep all the sound cues. If it were me I bet they patch them back in and it’s a bug, but hey more ways to play Kotor the better.

I've bought this game on the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox one and series x, a Android tablet, PC,and finally the switch. I love the switch version because of all the cheat codes. I use to download the mods when I had the PC version. Honestly I know this game like the back of my hand. When I play kotor 2 I find out something new everytome which is nice. But I think out of the two I prefer the original

got KOTOR on sale and used my eshop coins, best $5 spent lol. speaking of back stories, the only other game I can say I loved every characters story was legend of dragoon on PS1. just so much depth on every character even kid you never used them
Yes yes. Legend of dragoon is my other favourite rpg. Would love a remake of that also.
