From the press release "The marine architect responsible for this yacht had a previous and highly successful career as a designer of kitchen utensils. After twenty-years of perfectly proportioned spoons and spatulas he has moved into the nautical realm, and this, his first commission, brings to mind the very best in kitchen hardware. Bravo."
And now for something completely different.

Nordmarine I would agree, if the builder & owners donated a percentage to help those living in extreme poverty, and offset the pollution, materials and energy required to produce and operate these things... I will gladly make a designated donation to the first shipyard & billionaire who builds & operates a hospital/disaster relief ship... THAT would be truly admirable. If I win the lottery, I would love to build an energy efficient ship for that purpose, and I think that I (and the shipyard, and their employees) would derive much greater satisfaction from that than the owners (and builders) of all these ego-driven super yachts. I’m not saying that none of these people donate to worthwhile charities (and some less worthwhile ones...), or that the taxes involved in building & operating such large yachts don’t help SOME people, but this level of conspicuous consumption for the benefit of a very few is not something that I, or countless others choose to celebrate... and that goes for Thyssen, Lursen, Cantieri, (pardon any mistakes) and many, many others- I am not bashing the Dutch or their technical skills...

I disagree with krassolot, this design is made to be cruised in any seas. The sharp entry having little flare allows cutting the waves, not being lifted by them which makes a much smoother ride. Check out our Navy’s new Zumwalt Class destroyers! I especially like that it is not a “cookie cutter” design!

I'm surprised by how much water was coming out of the bilges! For a new yacht to have to dump that much water makes you think where the water is able to come in? The seals on the shafts, bad welding or glass work? Just look at 2:25, and that's happening on both sides!

    • @erikarneberg11
      @erikarneberg11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Earl Bailey Not in such a mild sea state- those waves are small, and this thing is moving WAY too much, at a pretty slow speed. There are a couple of immediately evident possibilities; she’s a brand new ship, and is not loaded with all the equipment, furniture, stores, provisions, fuel & ballast that will add enough weight to “slow her roll”, if you’ll pardon the pun, but look at that long, narrow bow- not ideal for adding significant weight (there’s just not enough volume to accommodate enough additional mass)...Second thought is that she’s designed for high speed, and will be more stable at speed... But looking at her size, she’s too big to be a planing, or even a semi-planing hull, unless she’s incredibly light (there goes strength), incredibly powered (there goes lightness), and whoever has to write the checks for her fuel just does not give a fuck. So my third (and final thought, thank god!) is that she’s designed with a long, narrow bow without much sheer so she can really cut through the waves. Which she isn’t doing here. Therefore, I don’t think it’s Mark Bozz who’s made a stupid comment...

Tell that to all the people who built this boat, sorry,no work today,we can’t have people wasting their money on such things.
Now go stand in the welfare line to pick up your check and food stamps.

It’s really sad when people want to demonize someone just for being rich instead of thanking them for providing jobs for the rest of us.

@@markh672 Let's say-just for example- the owner took the money he spent on the yacht and built a proportionate number of school buildings. This would also involve construction jobs, but also ongoing jobs... perhaps into perpetuity. Then ancillary jobs who would be training teachers, feeding and supplying the schools. This is setting aside the enormous good that such a gesture would provide for the ongoing future of civilization! He opted instead to float around in a surrogate penis. I hope it's more seaworthy than it appears on the video, because the heave fore and aft on this 300' + ship looks like about 15' of vertical movement. That my friend, is going to make a whole bunch of rich people and their hot AF companions puke till they want to die. And they will beg for death after two days of it. I've seen it happen! :-D
Whatever floats yer' boat, my dad always used to say!

All good points but the owner of this boat decided to direct/spend his money to employee boat builders instead of school builders. You never know, he may also build schools! The main point I was trying to make was to highlight how so many people love to demonize someone just for the simple fact that they’re wealthy and enjoy the fruits of their wealth.
Demonization just seems to be the knee jerk reaction if it’s viewed that someone is enjoying their wealth. The owner of this boat may be a huge philanthropist and do lots and lots of good with his money.
In a free society we should be able to spend our money any way we choose and be able to do so without being demonized. We should be thanked for being productive members of society and in this case actually employing people and helping put food on their tables.
How wealthy people spend their money is a never ending debate that won’t be solved here. Do I personally think that a boat like this is overkill?...yes, but if that’s the way that man wants to spend his money...and employee boat builders...then more power to him.
He’ll also be continuing to employ a lot of ancillary people long after this boat is built. That boat will need a crew to sail it and maintenance people to maintain it. I can’t even imagine the cost and logistics of owning something like this, but the fact is that this boat will continue to employ many people that maintain it and put food on those peoples tables.
Once again, it’s all about how you view the world. I choose to error on the side of freedom and to have the freedom and ability to spend my money any way I choose. Wealth is relevant in the sense that there will always be people richer than you and me...and poorer than you and me. You say that it’s a waste of money to own a boat like this but I’m sure there’s some guy that has less than you that thinks that it’s a waste of money for you to own that fishing boat that’s maybe sitting next to your house.
The point is, we don’t live in a perfect world, but as long as someone isn’t hurting anyone else...but maybe actually helping out society by being productive members of society and actually employing other people, than the rest of us should just say thank you.

How many people need to live a poor, hopeless and short live to earn the money for this big toy?

k -Well, if you keep things modest, and only extort $1.00 per person, that’s only four or five hundred million people, give or take a few million...
