This song in the season's last episode was incredible... it's not just Colin reaching adulthood and leaving his memories behind, there's the running theme of how time just slips through your fingers as a vampire. Once the club is closed and Colin doesn't need a nanny, Guillermo realizes he's back to housekeeping for the same 4 vampires and he's no closer to his goal than he was when he started, unless he does something about it
I wasn't expected the last episode to be so sad honestly. This song being the opening and closing really hit hard, especially when you could see how sad Laszlo was. Even Guillermo realizing he was no longer needed on a friend/member of the group level was actually quite sad. It's like we rewound to the very first episode.
At first when Colin doesn't need a nanny anymore, Guillermo becomes wistful about becoming an empty-nester. It's a sad moment, but he's happy he feels like something's changed. When Colin becomes exactly like he used to be, Guillermo realizes that the routine of over a decade is now completely impossible to escape if he doesn't become a vampire, which is what pushes him to finally go to Derek.
The last few eps of this season made me realize just how much death affects our perspective on life. For Guillermo, or anyone who knows life is short and finite, wasting time creates anxiety and panic because you know you’ll run out eventually and you want to spend it well so you don’t have the regret of wasting it. But for a being with eternal life, I’m sure anything that can waste time would be a blessing, because it’s something to use up that dreaded eternity and make it go by just a little bit faster. On the one hand you could take the perspective that life sucks no matter how short or long it is, and we’re in a forever struggle to spend it well until it ends. But on the other hand you realize that’s why we must find things that give life meaning, so that it’s not wasted, and to ease the burden of a life so long and yet so short. We do our best
I dunno if this is intentional, but I really like how the situation with Collin Robinson kinda acts like this neat little metaphor for the innate tragedy that is vampirism in this universe. Like mot of the time, their time blindness is played for laughs, like in the first episode where Nandor is surprised Guillermo has been in his service for 10 years. But that's what it's like for them. They blink and suddenly that young boy is a grown man. They blink again and he's an old man. They blink a third time and he's gone. The world keeps turning and they stay they same.
i think its so interesting that this show, a show primarily comedic, had a moment so... real, like this. i know a lot of comedy shows have real moments sometimes because the characters are still living beings going through life, but like... damn. laszlo is straight up grieving his child who isnt technically gone but is still gone in the ways that matter. he wasnt a great dad, but he found he cared a lot about that kid, actually, and now that kid is gone. shiiiiiit

With Colin, he takes on the responsibility of the best friend of a dying man and then a father. And then that all passes so quickly and he's thrust back into meaningless eternity.

It's weird, cuz I heard S4 was a step down in quality. Personally I enjoyed it a lot more than the third season.
