@@amymckay23 I see what you mean, but as I said "especially influencer merchandise"... her brand's purpose isn't providing people with everyday clothing and all the things we need, normally if you just want to support your favorite influencer you usually just have a few pieces and with such a low demand she has to rise the prices even more... but every perception is different🫶 She herself even claimed them to be on the more expensive side, I just personally think it's quite compared to other influencer's brands.

A lot of people have become accustomed to fast fashion prices, but that’s just not the reality of what it costs to make clothes.
I can’t express how much I appreciate Mia for putting out this line and her interest in sustainable clothing. On the other hand I feel that most people in Mia’s audience can’t afford the hoodies. It would be ideal if the big fashion brands (Prada, Gucci, etc) would actually take note of this, use recycled materials and produce their clothes in a country that pays fair wages to the employees who make the clothes. Because snobbish and richer (than us) people would pay $800 on a hoodie if it had a Maison Margiela label on it, they might as well make it from recycled materials…unfortunately, unlike Mia, I think these big brands care more about profit than about producing sustainable fashionwear.
i totally and 100% agree with you - that being said, I just checked the website and the hoodie is ("only") $80! Of course this is a lot for a hoodie and definitely not easily spent for a lot of people (me included!!) but I have to say that I expected much much more! With how sustainable it is and the stitching and everything she explained I was thinking like $ 150/200 or so...because there are a lot of brands (not designers) that charge around that mark for a hoodie! So I have to say - although it is still a lot of money and definitely too much for me - I was surprised at how affordable it is, considering all of those great production details!

Well they are sold out on the website now so I guess many can afford it. To think most TH-camrs charge 40-60 for a hoodie and those aren’t recycled, 80 isn’t too bad. I personally wouldn’t buy just because I’m a thrifty and 80 is too much for me to justify since I’d get regular ones for under $8 but I think it’s a good deal for ethically made recycled clothing forfilled by only a few hands.

Mia, just saying that you commissioned two people that you know gave me hope. My daughter who has degree had to quit her dream job, she has a rare form of epilepsy. Her wife has set up cameras all over their apartment to watch her daily while she’s at work, they moved 2000 miles away from us for a job. She drew a lot while she was younger but her therapist told her to embrace her painting to help her cope with things. It turned out she fell in love with it and she is really good at it and is now wanting to start a business doing it. She even drew me a picture of a real monkey that I love from a photo which is now my thumbnail. Needless to say that gave me a glimmer of hope that there are things that she can do with her talent so thank you. I am forwarding her this video because I know it’ll touch her heart like it did mine. What you are doing is amazing and the relationship you have with your mom reminds me of the one I had with mine, I had told you earlier that it was just a year since she passed and watching your videos with your mom makes my heart happy. I know you treasure every day with her, you can genuinely see the love you guys have for each other. Please give your mom a huge hug from me.🌺

It’s just hard to be the one watching as all of her dreams fell away and not being able to do anything about it. She went in for a five day EEG at the epileptic center and within the first 24 hours she had one continuous seizure going on and the doctor said she didn’t need any more of the EEG‘s but she stayed there to change her medicine and then she is doing better it’s just when she goes on a new seizure medicine, which she’s on three of them, they make her extremely tired. I know everything happens for a reason and it will turn out the way it supposed to I just wish it would get there quicker, you know. Thank you so much for your kind words, that means so much to me.

As a textile engineer, I'm not too sure on the recycled cotton... Like, the concept is still in early processing and 2022 only 630,000 kg of cotton was recycled (of 113 million tons of fiber produced in that year, so basically nothing). If it's mechanical recycled (like you stated), the fabric can not be "buttery soft", but should have visible imperfections. And 100 % mechanical recycled cotton, is not achievable yet. One option is, that it is mixed with a high percentage of regular "virgin" cotton. If it were recycled by chemical process, it could be buttery soft, but the tag had to say "viscose/rayon/lyocell/modal" on it and not cotton, because it got recycled into a cellulose man-made fiber (a desirable recycling processes for cotton right now too, tho). The GRS label is nice and important, but all these labels come with a little story. So basically if the fabric is certified by GRS as full made of GRS recycled cotton, that doesn't mean it is made from 100 % recycled cotton. A fabric can be certified my GRS when it is made of at least 20% recycled material, aka 20% recycled CO + 80 % virgin CO = 100 % "GRS recycled cotton" or 45 % recycled CO + 55 % virgin CO = 100 % "GRS recycled cotton", and so on. (For the GOTS organic cotton label, it is similar as well: at least 80% of the cotton has to be from an organic source to get the 100% label.) Just a little educational content here, no hate or anything, just supporting with some insider facts!!! The textile world, especially the sustainable part, is very, very complex and even a lot of textile professionals can't keep up with this topic. It's like a "transition phase" currently, because you can't transform one of the resource-intensive industries of the world into a sustainable one in a couple of years, it will take decades to do that. Meanwhile, companies try to sell "fully sustainable" option as a doable thing and totally doing extreme greenwashing with it. And as I said, this whole thing is so complex, that it's hard to keep up too for textile professionals, and basically impossible for people with no textile profession. In the end, one step at a time is important, and going for labels like GRS, GOTS, etc is the right step to take!!! A lot of these labels have still a long way to go, to be at the desirable sustainable goal; but at the same time they are the best available options out there and need to be promoted to keep them growing towards a more sustainable future. And I appreciate everybody's effort to make textile more sustainable and bringing awareness! You are on the right way, keep going!!! Closing the loop and participating in that concept is so precious, too!

If it were recycled by chemical process, it could be buttery soft, but the tag had to say "viscose/rayon/lyocell/modal" on it and not cotton, because it got recycled into a cellulose man-made fiber (a desirable recycling processes for cotton right now too, tho). The GRS label is nice and important, but all these labels come with a little story. So basically if the fabric is certified by GRS as full made of GRS recycled cotton, that doesn't mean it is made from 100 % recycled cotton. A fabric can be certified my GRS when it is made of at least 20% recycled material, aka 20% recycled CO + 80 % virgin CO = 100 % "GRS recycled cotton" or 45 % recycled CO + 55 % virgin CO = 100 % "GRS recycled cotton", and so on. (For the GOTS organic cotton label, it is similar as well: at least 80% of the cotton has to be from an organic source to get the 100% label.)

The textile world, especially the sustainable part, is very, very complex and even a lot of textile professionals can't keep up with this topic. It's like a "transition phase" currently, because you can't transform one of the resource-intensive industries of the world into a sustainable one in a couple of years, it will take decades to do that. Meanwhile, companies try to sell "fully sustainable" option as a doable thing and totally doing extreme greenwashing with it. And as I said, this whole thing is so complex, that it's hard to keep up too for textile professionals, and basically impossible for people with no textile profession.
In the end, one step at a time is important, and going for labels like GRS, GOTS, etc is the right step to take!!! A lot of these labels have still a long way to go, to be at the desirable sustainable goal; but at the same time they are the best available options out there and need to be promoted to keep them growing towards a more sustainable future. And I appreciate everybody's effort to make textile more sustainable and bringing awareness! You are on the right way, keep going!!! Closing the loop and participating in that concept is so precious, too!
