    I used to get facials, extractions, every 8 weeks religiously. Then I went to Vietnam and got the best facial and extraction! So thorough, so satisfying, not one blackhead left behind... never experienced a facial like that in North America. So I stick to massages now and use Tretinoin. Best skin yet 👍

      @@anarodriguez6601 I don't remember it being any longer than other facials I had (which has been a while so I can't even remember how long a facial is supposed to be, an hour?). I think that they spent more time on the extractions and probably less time massaging or masking for example.

    Had my first facial aged 40 at my local beauty salon - Dermalogica Pro60. 60 bucks. No products shoved down my throat. A very skilled esthetician who extracted over 30 deep blackheads and gently removed milia. I was very, very happy with the results...my skin now looks like I'm wearing makeup even though I'm not!! Absolutely worth it and I'll be moving to a cheaper hair salon, so I can save some money and put it towards a 6-8 weekly facial. FYI the massage was the shortest part of my facial! ❤

    • @jenniferwatson7162
      @jenniferwatson7162 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same! I was wondering about the medical spa I recently bought a package from as the massage was by far the shortest part of my facial and was not done to help absorption of a serum, mask, or treatment.

      Typically it depends on what your skin needs. If you need more extractions your Esthetician may focus on that and shorten the facial. My facials usually have about 10 minute increments for each step. If someone wants more relaxation I might cut back the other steps and increase the massage time. Depends on where you go and what you need.

    I was in the middle ground group of acne sufferers - enough breakouts to be extremely annoying & all too noticeable, but not severe enough that derms were of much help. Prescriptions from derms were too harsh for me. Regular monthly extraction facials from a trusted esthetician got my acne totally under control! YAY to great estheticians!! 👍

    I started getting facials about 5 months before my son's wedding. I knew my skin was a mess. I tend to be touch averse, so I asked the esth to do just my face the first time. She did. She told me I have rosacea (I know the caveat as she is not a doc). Very dry and very red skin. I kept going monthly (honest, I just planned to do it until the wedding as not to embarrass my son). But here I am 18 months later! I go every 8 weeks now. Yes, the full massage business. She is great at extractions and explaining when I f*ck up my skin becuase I put something on there I shouldn't have. She offers (mostly) a singular brand of skincare to ME, I know she has others b/c friends who go to her are on different stuff. But she doesn't push and will offer samples. Once I tell her if I don't like something. That's that. BTW, I go to the carwash once a week. Sometimes more!

      May I suggest something? If you have Rosacea, you may want to consult with a dermatologist too! I have had Rosacea for over 30 years and the only things that have helped are oral tetracycline antibiotics, Rosadyn oral capsules, washing with 2% Salicylic acid cleanser and twice-yearly Laser treatments. I know some patients swear by a diet to help clear their skin, and I'm sure that works too! Diet has never had any effect on my skin though! It's mainly weather changes that make a difference.

    I recently had a PRP microneedling facial. Made a huge difference in one treatment to texture, dullness, and stubborn closed comedones that I couldn’t get rid of even with prescription strength tret. Absolutely no irritation. It accomplished in 1 hour (plus a few days of healing) what topical treatments would take months to do for me. Worth the expense.

    I feel like extractions are the safest and effective facial treatments people can get are extractions and chemical peels, especially extractions. Really skilled estheticians are REALLY good at extracting the all comedone acnes and gunk in your pores and can even deal with some cystic acnes as long as it isn't too inflamed. After the session your skin is literally baby bottom smooth and glowing!! Imagine getting that regularly on top of using adapalene or tretinoin or retinol with sunscreen regularly!! Magnifique!! Another aesthetic treatment I would recommend people to get are body massages, espcially scalp and shoulder+neck massages. It really relaxs the muscles there and helps with blood circulation which really helps with your overall complexion.

    I used to get facials including micro dermabrasion that were fairly expensive when I had acne. After accutane I'm acne free and now I'm all about the home treatments using LED and microneedling. My devices paid for themselves on the first use with what I saved versus had I gone to an esthetician.

    I hate facials, Evetytime my skin just stings and ends up messing with my skins natural barrier. I did a NVQ in beauty and it really put me off. I've become a expert on my skin and these amazing videos by cassandra are amazing, Very grounded and honest and about beauty for everyone and the health of the skin. I love home gadgets and first started on a very low budget with a cheap redlight mask and used green tea abd had amazing results. Also I developed Acne when I was 28 after never having a single spot and it was psychologically hard and I didn't want to face people. Thankfully it went away but the skin we live in does make a difference how we feel in the world. I've had body dysmorphia to so it's been a journey. Anyway these videos are honest and I love cassandras energy and quirky fun personality. Here in Essex uk beauty is very plastic and fake looking but beauty is definitely glows from inside beautiful kind caring people.

    Thanks for the video, Cassandra! I have very dry, sensitive skin with rosacea, so my dermatologist advised me many years ago not to have facials. And I'm skeptical about the value of salon treatments from an aesthetician. (Sorry, Cassandra!) So, I don't get them.
    My dermatologist says I have great skin for my age, which I attribute to sunscreen use and heredity.
    I also don't use rollers, gua sha tools, or any type of skin care gadgets such as red light. I'm also skeptical of the value of these. For those who chose differently, OK, it's your money and your skin. But...listen to Cassandra and be an informed consumer. Be critical of claims for these items.

    I take really good care of my skin and don’t really need any help but I decided to get a “treatment” facial and I told the girl my skin is sensitive, dry and acne prone… is this safe?She was like oh yes it’s great!…omg it was so awful and rough on my poor face. She even got some product in my eye that burned so bad. On top of it, I found out this was her first time administering this treatment 🤦‍♀️
    So my advice is it’s generally not worth it unless it’s a very specific treatment for your skin issue. Even then, do your due diligence and make sure you know who you’re going to, ask how long they’ve been doing this and see if they’re super pushy or helpful and kind. At least you can walk out before you get your skin into an unfortunate situation!

But my skin was left feeling fresh and glowly and it still looks super clean 2 weeks later. So give it a go at least once to see if it fits u. I've gone to schools for facials. Some good, some bad. One school I went to had a GREAT instructor. She came into the session and, having discovered I had a headache, fit a finger on my forehead (?Reike, maybe?), And the headache magically disappeared.
    Never had as good a facial as that one.

    I just received my first consult on a few dark spots (the esthetician believes it may be melasma). This location primarily sells Zo Skin Health. Would you put that brand in the “good” category? I also purchased the Elta MD SPF there.

    I've been wanting to see a video like this from you because I think I have had a bad facialist before. She left me for like 20-30 minutes when I fell asleep. My first facialist stayed with me the whole time. So, is it normal for them to leave for half the time? Is it just me ... when I pay for 60 minutes, then I want 60 minutes?

      Usually it is the standard today that if you have mask on then during that time they do arm massage with cream or in some places head or neck-shoulders massage. It is not a good practice to leave a room during facial. At least where I live. But definetely there are different kind of places.

    hi cassandra, I have box scars and rolling scars and have started getting chemical peels. I had the first session of sal acid peel 3 weeks ago and although i see much improvement in my acne, i cant say the same for the scarring. Do chemical peels actually work on the scars?

    • @lanivetroldan9906
      @lanivetroldan9906 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I’m not Cassandra but I am an esthetician. If your primary concern is acne, then i would do chemical peels, acne facials, and/or visit a dermatologist for oral or prescribed medication. After you get the acne under control, I would start doing microneedling for the texture and scarring. Deeps peels like VIpeels will help a little with texture but not like microneedling can in my experience. I like deep peels for acne, sunspots, hyperpigmentation. Microneedling is better for texture, scarring, and building collagen. There are different lasers that can help with scarring too. Resurfx, cool peels, co2, etc. Hope that helps!

      If your facial is that much and not that good, that’ll be a bummer. But hopefully the high price goes with good quality. I spend thousands of dollars on my continued education, and my higher price tag reflects my value.

      @jmszoom haha yeah I'm excited to have it done, I have milia so I got a European facial and extractions. I'm hoping they'll be able to help me figure out what I can do to prevent/get rid of milia, I'm so self conscious about them. I don't really know what to expect since it's my first facial, so i hope I don't feel like I wasted money🤣 I don't feel like my expectations are too high...I guess we'll see🤣
      The facial does include a neck, arm, and upper back massage as well. So im hoping it's relaxing.

      @@AKbaby89 it will be worth it either way because you deserve it! A facial won’t usually be life-changing. The education may be, though, so ask lots of questions. You are paying for touch, products, and knowledge. If it’s around the eyes go to a dermatologist, as most estheticians won’t and legally can’t extract them from the sensitive ocular skin. I got rid of my eye milia with actives, salicylic (stridex pads) & glycolic acid toner. Not daily, twice a week at night, avoid your eyes as much as possible (maybe use a q-tip). And covered with a light layer of cosrx snail mucin as a gentle eye moisturizer. Gone in 2-3 weeks for me and never had to do it again. No popping! Leave that go the professionals.

      @@AKbaby89 you’re going to love it lol it just feels so good to have someone rub and manipulate your face. A lot of health benefits to touch alone. 🥰 Milia needs hydration to allow the skin to regenerate properly; milia hardened keratin and sebum- why you can’t extract them. Hopefully they can extract them, and then point you in the right direction to help prevent them. But try to give your skin more moisture.
      PS. Don’t be self conscious! That is not what people are looking at. We notice our own “flaws”, which undoubtedly aren’t flaws, and no one sees them like we do, human nature. You have found a great community.
