I don't know how the scholars interpreting it, but to me the cross symbols ( with and without circles ) look like the image of the sun, the solar image, and the interwoven lines look like a symbol of the DNA structure. This DNA structure symbol also appeared in the previous image of the Ohlone tribal basket ornamental patterns to honor the ancestors.
