  • Martin Rizzo-Martinez, CA State Parks Historian II and Tribal Liaison for the Santa Cruz District, gives a great talk about the ancestral Native American tribe of the Santa Cruz Mountains, The Ohlone. AKA, the people who lived on this land before us and continue to occupy parts of it. This video is really informative when it comes to outlining indigenous history, politics, and stewardship practices. It is geared more for docents, as it also explains the best way to teach this information, anyone can learn from it.

This Native American image on the right is truly remarkable. I don't know how the scholars interpreting it, but to me the cross symbols ( with and without circles ) look like the image of the sun, the solar image, and the interwoven lines look like a symbol of the DNA structure. This DNA structure symbol also appeared in the previous image of the Ohlone tribal basket ornamental patterns to honor the ancestors.
