  • Felling and bucking a big sitka spruce and trying to salvage the wood before it rots away. Showing the whole process from felling the tree with an undercut and back cut, to bucking the logs to length, and then skidding them to the landing with a skidder. With some quick log scaling at the landing they are ready to go on the log truck and to the mill for boards.

    That spruce would have been first rate for masts and spares, the wooden boat people would have paid a great deal for it oh well to late now.

      Good idea! I will keep that in mind for future spruce. Thanks for watching

    hello again I didn't know thee was a good market for spruce? maybe better to cut it up for firewood if your only getting 250 300 a MBF

      Yeah, spruce doesn't have a good market. It probably would have been better as firewood

    Don't be surprised if the mill culls that spruce

      I can't remember if I say in the video, but I think the BF for the spruce was over 2000? For that spruce tree I think the mill paid me $130

    You figure your falling yarding loading hauling and labor costs might be better to take it home for firewood

    • @SJForestProducts
      @SJForestProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, but then I would have to split all the fire wood 😆

    maybe innoculate your stumps with oyster mushroom spawn...? The mushrooms eat the stump, then you eat the mushrooms (or sell them - they go for between $35 and $88 a pound, depending on various factors)

      That is an awesome idea! I have always been curious about mushrooms and growing them. I might have to give that a try and I will make a vid for sure! Thanks for the suggestion!

    where did you learn how to do this?

    • @SJForestProducts
      @SJForestProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I fought fire for the forest service back in college. That is where I received most of my chainsaw experience. The rest like skidding and selling logs I am kinda faking it till I make it
