    Great overview--for me to pass on to others who might benefit from Roam. I nominate you as the official spokesperson.

      Ditto. You have a gift of synthesis, Drew. Great job. Glad I found you, just wish it was first.

    Just started w Roam. No need to app-switch between 1) note taking, 2) task manager, 3) journaling, 4) mind mapping. Yuge!

      Doesnt’ it feel nice?? It has also made me realize how often I switch between those four mental modes, and how ‘bad’ it feels to try and keep them all separate.

    Watched a bunch of videos on Roam tonight. Yours was, by far, the best.

    Drew, may I compliment you on your Roam Overview. It is a superb personal journey for everyone - showing how YOU use Roam. I think it is very useful for all Roam users to tell the world how they impliment Roam so we can compare and contrast.

      Thank you, it’s the metaphor that helped Roam ‘click’ for me months ago, and I hope it helps others!

    Echo the comments above Drew. Best plain language (compliment!), perfectly-paced intro to what looks an awesome product.
    Some real nuggets of info/advice for the first-timers.
    Am yet to decide on a Roam subscription but VERY likely all thanks to your video.
    Big thank you!

    Good overview sir. I am trying to decide whether to keep using Workflowy or switch to another tool such as Obsidian, Notion, or Roam.

    I just binge-watched a lot of your videos - while I am not new to Roam, you have rekindled my passion for it - I was getting kind of in a rut when it comes to productivity, and did not use it to its fullest potential anymore. You really should have more subscribers, your videos are not only informative, but your presentation is spot on - blessings

    As others have noted, this is a really good introductory video. Roam, as many other apps, are difficult to "grok", depending on from where one is arriving. Explaining from good, universal starting points (the journaling angle, the wiki / pages angle, etc.) and without making all sorts of implicit assumptions and mindlessly using the internal terminology is key. You do that very well. After 15 minutes the viewer is able to grab this, sit down with it and produce simple notes with joy. I personally find it much more effective than many Roam internal tutorials and guidance by "coder" types, where I tend to drop off somewhere with questions marks about context and meaning. Thanks for this!

      Appreciate this comment! I also watched a bunch of introductory videos that made no sense to my brain, so I figured that there were others in the same boat as me :)

    You managed to give a great overview on Roam that has such relatable and thoughtful examples for each functionality, that it immediately shortened my steep learning curve with Roam. Thank you lots for your precious perspectives!
    Do you find searching for a term across all your Roam notes hard, especially in the small search window? I’m used to Evernote’s way of highlighting the searched term throughout the body of the note, and I lose this context when I click on the Roam note brought up in the search window.

    • @DrewCoffman
      @DrewCoffman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for the kind comment, it made my day! Regarding searching for a term, I’ve definitely found that once in awhile I can’t find a block quickly, especially when I’m searching a fairly common word that comes up again and again. In those situations I typically search for the page then right-click on the block I want after using Command-F to find it. I imagine search will continue to improve as the product is built.

    Great introduction! Exactly what I looked for👍🏻 One thing that I often wonder is that how can I be sure that all my notes won’t just disappear someday in case I’d like to change my note taking system or if Roam suddenly requires monthly payment or if the system just collapses. Office tools, such as Word and Excel, are pretty standard and easily accessible, but is there any way to back-up Roam notes as txt or docs files? This thought applies to the other similar note taking systems as well.

      Roam has a very easy export feature that will legit export your entire graph in a single click. You may have some annoyances - like markdown discrepancies - but they’re definitely not stuck inside the tool!

    this might be slightly off topic -- how is Obsidian different from ROAM research? I'm asking for a penniless friend, of course.

    have you used workflowy? debating whether it’s worth switching

    • @DrewCoffman
      @DrewCoffman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not! From what I understand, WorkFlowy is an outliner and more limited in nature in Roam :)
