For years now, I’ve been waking up at 5am and by 5:15, no matter what the weather, my German Shepherd and I are beginning our 1-hour hike we do every morning. We live in New England in the states and at 5am, it’s dark and cold, and for two months in the winter, our entire hike is in the dark with a headlamp. But for the rest of the year, we catch the sunrise at some point in our hike, and it is the most incredible way to start you day. Walking through a dark, calm, peaceful forest and then to watch the sky slowly turn pink and get brighter till the sun is up…it never gets old. We get a relaxing and peaceful start to the day before venturing out to the real world of responsibilities and work. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Username checks out, lol ! I also have a GSD, and honestly I think she would hate me if I woke her up at 5am :P Might try that next week anyway.
I love walks in the early morning or late at night, or even in the rain : no one to bother us so more off leash time (where it's allowed ofc) for my girl!

When my alarm goes off, I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do for myself than go back to sleep! Meditating, eating a yummy breakfast, journaling, or reading a book are all very distance seconds. Does anyone else feel that way? Or am I just a deeply depressed human being?

I would also say that one tip that's been helping be recently is really understanding the value of your time. I'm someone who can sleep until 2pm if you let me lol - but reframing my mind and understanding the value of time, and when you learn to value your time, you learn to value yourself.

Your last point about going to bed on time -- yes, it's foundational, and especially important since it's too easy to use those couple hours of free time for being in bed for longer! You really gotta be well-rested. If you're waking up at 5 am, you should be a person who's fine with sleeping by 9pm/10pm.

    • @k49821
      @k49821 ปีที่แล้ว +7

That's my problem, I love my down time and evenings after work and don't want to get in bed early! Time before work just isn't as enjoyable or productive for me because I'm focused on what's to come and it's not something I look forward to... I also have no desire to get up at 5am lol but I do want to be up earlier than I have been getting up!

I've been getting up at 5am for the past 6-7 years to get my workouts done. It really sets me up for the day but another reason I get them done before work is because I know my motivation to exercise dwindles the later in the day it gets! Practice has definitely helped me develop this habit!

i was a closing manager at my last two jobs, but now i work a 8-4 job and it was tough, but i feel like im finally getting the hang of waking up early. and also getting to sleep at a reasonably time is so much easier now. one thing that i love is seeing the fog in the fields around my house most mornings. ill get in my car a few minutes early and just sit at the end of my driveway and breathe in and see the beauty in nature around me. having purpose and joy in the mornings is something i never thought i'd have, but it has made such a difference in my life.

Thank you for this. I realized that it contributes to my feelings of isolation when I get up at 6, because 90% of my friends are working musicians (as am I) so we keep later hours. Unless I get booked on a show or something that requires an early morning, it’s better for my mental/emo health to have my hours more aligned with my community. I’m just wondering if anyone else has this experience…?

what helps me get up early in the morning without anything specific I need to do is thinking about what I WANT to do in the mornings. Nobody else in my family is usually awake at 5am, so I get like 2 hours of the day all to myself, and I really love that. Even on days that I want to sleep in, I tend to challenge myself just to get up in the morning. If I still feel lazy (Note: it's totally okay to have lazy days!) I could snuggle in a blanket and watch a movie or a show.
So think about what you want to do when you wake up in the mornings!

And also I would add that if you're sleeping in the same bed with your partner or in a room with anybody, you still must have your own morning routine. These days my partner can sleep until 10am,11am and so I also slept longer (until 8 or 9am) and I discovered that it's not good for me cause I need my early morning time for stuff I like to do. 🙂

Excellent video. I struggle with waking early and going to sleep early. It's particularly because I'm not looking forward to waking because my agenda immediately became whatever is expected of me. I'm in a terrible position. So, naturally I get dread. I usually am awake late. My sleep becomes unbalanced and it leads to more dread. A cycle. I'm trying to break it though. I just need to find something to look forward to and to get up approximately 2 hours before family. It's unpredictable as to when they wake though.

I combine the tricks of timed automatic lights + low nighttime lights by using smart bulbs in all my lamps and scheduling them to be bright and warm at different times in the app.
The one downside is that you have to control them via phone, which can lead to phone time at night when you’re just turning off the light, but they do also have switches you could put by your bed.

When I started keeping my phone out of my room it was easier to go to bed and get up I the morning. But I started taking my Chromebook upstairs, and I don't plan to change that because I like having a private place to video chat with friends and work on my art and all that, but I've found I'm using it to stay up later, and sometimes I get right on it first thing in the morning and I don't get up for hours (temp unemployed, my job is seasonal and I live with family) so I'm going to start charging it every night across the room, as apposed to right under my loft bed whenever I'm done with it. I can doodle on paper before bed and it helps me unwind just as well without keeping me up for longer and it won't be the first thing I reach for in the morning

The most life changing tip to wake up before 6am is to have a baby! Babies don't care what time it is and toddlers don't either! I haven't used an alarm clock since I was pregnant. My day starts at 4am most days. 6am is sleeping in.

Was going to write this. Video popped up on my feed and I laughed. I have a four year old and a 3 month old- I haven't slept in for about 5 years 🙃

I have a bedside lamp on a timer- it goes off 10 minutes before my alarm. That way I wake up to a bright room.

i wish i could have a cozy wake up, but unfortunately i have to get up at 6 for work. i am fully a night person so it sucks that i have to force myself to bed early, but i used to get up at 6:15 and i now use those new 15 minutes to go for a walk and it has really shifted my mornings.
