Out Front: Sydney

  • Five million people live in Sydney, but the place is really all about its geography: drowned river valleys, eroded headlands, shifting sand loads, and a sunrise over the ocean. That last one is what gives Sydney surf its distinct light and color. You might call it “backlit”, but the term doesn’t quite capture how a morning wave in Sydney can appear to hold sun, wind and cloud within itself. Even on dark days the water can seem luminous. In this clip, shot by local cinematographer Spencer Frost, the quality of light in this unparalleled surf town is fully captured, along with the crazy range of surf produced along its 40-odd beaches and slabby platform reefs.

    Beautiful.
I just hope this is the year that we can all enjoy a better balanced lifestyle no matter where we are.
I personally want to come back to Sydney but it's just not feasible with the world being out of balance
Have bad great day wherever you are!

I lived (and surfed) in Sydney for 15 years, and this clip brought tears to my eyes.
Surely the best big-city surf in the world.

Yeah big city surf cause the surf isnt great compared to the rest of australia here. Sure we get some good days there and there but 80-90% of the time it s poor to avg conditions. Banks are rarely good
