For anyone outside of the area wondering, this is as good as Deadman's gets. Its a weird wave that requires the perfect combination of swell direction, period and tide to produce anything good, but when it does...this is what you get. Only happens once or twice a year. Rest of the time its just big, unruly and the sections don't line up well enough to produce a good barrel. Hats off to the gents though, it breaks close to the rocks and if you come off, as many of these guys do, the current and white water push you straight into the rocks. Navigating the step in conditions like this is as difficult as Solander.
great advice, im a beginner , ill head there tomorrow and give it a go, been practising in port phillip bay at port Melbourne beach, Im ready. thank you
Yeah rock is annoying, as is metal, but nothing compares to the terrible sound of trap hip hop and dubstep. So glad that all good creators of surf vids are now doing raw.
well done guys awesome footage and great to hear alot of sympathy for the down trodden!! and most of the surfers were goofy-footers displaying incredible commitment! Nice work
That slab section is unpredictable. I don't think wave selection can avoid it's pitfalls . You really have to have a feel how the wave is formed of the structure below . Some of these surfers have great instincts while others explore the agony of defeat us
This is the best video I've ever seen of this location epic epic epic epic! Those guys are pushing their luck as it is by riding these massive waves but doing it when the sun has gone down is pure insanity. These guys have lungs of steel. Just f****** amazing
Absolutely pumping. It's almost like the more fluoro your board spray is, the heavier Huey's going to cain you(except for flouro blue spray guy) .... I take my hat off to the ballsy ladies and gentlemen that paddled out. No way I would even when I was young.
Wow such a unique wave so challenging for the surfers to read it but man oh man are these guys fearlessly charging them unpredictable waves super awesome footage thanks for sharing
Absolutely epic video! It's raw, filled with emotions of the crowd and some pretty brutal wipeouts. Hold your breath while watching! Help them survive the hold-down!
Nice to see Australian waves other than the usual point breaks. Also nice to see footage coming out of Australia that isn’t about covid lockdowns. Is this the wave formerly known as “ours” or a different one?
Only ever been out there once when it was half this size after a storm and I was shitting bricks. Props to everyone out there! That last guy getting sent over the falls would’ve been a heavyyyy wipeout. Hope they were ok!
thank you for the great footage... we don't nearly get enough coverage on surfing, and we live on an island. there should be so much more surfing shown. thank you again.
ohhhh this was last year! the vid only just showed up in my recommended feed.. I thought it was of a month or two ago on that 17ft swell.. was it any good on that day this year..?
I am not a surfer but windsurfer. Looking at this I ask myself if a wider stance would help to keep more pressure on the tail of the board to keep the nose up when jumping the "slab"?
Wow don’t go down on an exhale on any of one of those! Can’t imagine the hold down But I’m so stoked to see lack of ski assist Beautiful paddle session 👏
I can't believe this spot. Not only is there a huge face and drop but then juuuust before you reach the bottom it drops out AGAIN. Just a horribly technical wave. Gotta love it.
First up, check out another huge surf in Sydney from 6 to 9 May 2023, with the largest day being Monday the 8th May, 2023. Sydney has a bizzare coast line. Australia has a short continental shelf. This means when big swells hit, the wave 'jacks up,' ( i.e. builds up immensely) from 6 to 10 or 12 feet within seconds ! If you add rock or reef like here at Deadman's, you get huge hard-hitting surf AND barrels within barrels.
2:03 he was in position for the barrel of a lifetime, but the wave was like "nah, not on my watch" 6:07 I can't even imagine what that sensation must be like.
Epic footage again Mr Duce. Love watching the locals charge it, especially the goofy’s! And not a fucking JetSki tow in to be seen!! And all topped off by the commentary. Locals rule 😉
this is literally a stab premium
ahahaha that is much appreciated! I hope to provide content like this again and again

Thx mate, epic insights and exactly what I was wondering about as I was watching this epic footage 👏👏
those steps reminded me of Shipstern Bluff in Tasmania

Same. Ocean bass rocks.
Excellent filming guy, I like how you used the sound of the surf instead of some crappy hard rock music in background. Way to go!
Really appreciate it mate!
Totally agree...Nat sound is the best. Great video...thanks.
"way to go!" a good old fashioned Aussie saying!
Yeah rock is annoying, as is metal, but nothing compares to the terrible sound of trap hip hop and dubstep. So glad that all good creators of surf vids are now doing raw.
Waw... i love how there's no music and you get the real time sounds. It's more intense to watch. Wish more surf videos were presented like this;

Keep coming back to these vids, cant wait to see d-mans on the next decent swell. Waiting patiently. Hope you catch it bro. Awesome footy and editing.

One of the many reasons why Australia is the lucky country. Unreal waves.
another one is everytime they face economic deficit there's always something new to pull out of the ground
Leads the world in fatal shark attacks too. Pass.

No, he’s dead. He got butt pounded by the wave and the kooks he was surfing with 😮
Great stuff mate.

The last guy … the 3rd story drop while probably taking the biggest breath of his life before getting exploded
pretty gnarly stuff hey...
Is there a name or term for the "bump" that appears toward the bottom of the wave that caused some to wipeout?
Yes it’s called the step 🙂

Epic footage man
I was there, and as you can see,it was a holy day for surfing in Sydney.
A lot of brave souls
My hats off well done soldiers
Keep at it. Faark yeah! 🙌🏼🇦🇺🍻
unreal.bloody fantastic!
What is it called when the wave has sort of a new wave forming right at the bottom? I saw all these guys kept getting thrown by it.
The little inside wave is formed from a boil in the water, caused by the reef. Some people call it a double up or just a step.
Probably Sydney's best big wave line up . Deadmans .
Yes sir 🔥
Good video Luke. Wish I was there
Wow don’t go down on an exhale on any of one of those! Can’t imagine the hold down

God, this is one of the meanest, gnarliest waves I've ever seen.
ahaha i know right, so gnarly
Can someone tell me what creates that section underneath?
Is there an undersea rock formation that causes that lower secondary wave to form out of nowhere? and why does it not seem to happen every wave?
it has a brain down there
yes its from the reef
Love the raw footage
Thats one gnarly, sneaky inner wave making everyone dig in the nose and faceplanting! Respect to these guys!

Bravo, you chargers!

Love that place ! rad to see them charging …. Remember some old slater footage from years back of him manhandling big deadman’s … that last one 🥴😬😩
Great vid, but it would be cool if you panned back on some to show the rocks
i was thinking the same thing
What’s with those little wave appendages near the base of the wave that knocks these people down?
It is a rock formation underwater, watch it again closely. Its in the same place of the wave each time.
Love the last wave. absolute belter
That step at the bottom of the wave is so brutal.
