The Irish and Scottish singing tradition is just wonderful. I know of families that go along to local clubs and to ceilidhs and just sing. No music, no computers, no autotune, just good family singing. Long may it live.
So natural - that applause was appropriately enthusiastic and sustained because not only is she a gifted and talented performer, but her personality too shines through. it?
This song, performed by Altan, was the first Irish song I heard. When I finished listening to it, it struck me that until then I'd never heard real music; I'd certainly never heard a real song.
I met Donnchadh almost ten years ago when Danu came to Peoria. I was working for the St. Patricks Society and we got Chinese for them. Everyone in the band was so nice. Donnchadh was by far the tallest person I'd seen, but he was such an awesome guy.

I wish I could click a 1000000 times, but even so she would still not get the number of views she deserves. A voice and minimal percussion and the result is riveting! a rare a (nearly) a Capella performance.

Muireann, you are as beautiful as the song but even more 💚🇺🇸
You are amazing
So beautiful!
@1:25 Muireann deviates from the album version and creates a major rather than a minor. Absolutely unreal.
Oustanding voice. Haunting song.
Beautiful !
Wow! That was amazing. Haunting on fact, i may have trouble sleeping after that.......
Wow what a voice !!!!
Beautiful!!!!! ❤️
What man could fail to fall in love with such a beautiful woman, with her fairy-like voice, and with what comes across of her personality?
Muireann is so amazing.
Nuair a stadann an ceol, stadann an rince.
Glé mhath, gun amhras 'sam bith.
Bhí seo sin go hiontach ARÍS!
Sehr schön.
What a hauntingly beautiful song
can anyone please, please please translate the lyrics? ...
Here's an English translation:
Drunkenness for life I forego
Strong ale I will taste never more
Since I lost my pretty young maid
Who would plenish my pockets with riches
chorus:
I long for her from me, from me
I long for her from me since leaving me
I long for her above and below me
The curly-haired Molly Ni Huillenan
I'll build a house on the hill
and four speckled cows I'll own
I'll allow no one else near them
Til the arrival of young Molly Ni Huillenan
(chorus)
If I were in the last throes of death
And people could see no recovery
I'd never dictate my last will
Til the arrival of Fair Molly Ni Huillenan
(chorus)
I happened one day in the woods
and I met a charming young maiden
She'd make a corpse come alive
and a lovely young man of an old fellow
(chorus)
I long for her above and below me
The curly haired Molly Ni Huillenan
This song to me goes far beyond a single man's longing for a woman, but speaks on a much deeper level of man's need for goddesses. But that's just me: I'm certainly a mystic about such things.
Maravilhosa....
Go raibh maith agat!
