  • Gladney University presents, "Supporting Children with Autism and their Families: Pathways from Early Identification to Community and School Services". Presentation slides - gladney.co/aut...
As more children are identified with autism, it is critical that families and professionals who serve them understand the importance of early diagnosis as it relates to children's eligibility for and access to intervention services. In this training, participants will learn about current autism statistics, guidelines that support early autism identification, the value and goals of early intervention, as well as how families and professionals can access services in the community and in public school settings.
    Speakers
Robin Kochel, Ph.D., is a research psychologist at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital. She received master’s degrees in Child & Family Studies and Clinical Investigation from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Baylor College of Medicine, respectively, and her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her expertise is in the study of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Kochel works with affected children and their families to learn more about causes of ASD, how to detect ASD at earlier ages, and how parents’ beliefs about ASD affect their decisions about health practices, such as whether to vaccinate their children or which treatments to use.
Sarah Mire, PhD is an applied researcher from Baylor University who studies ways to improve child outcomes by working with important adults in the lives of children with autism-- families, direct service providers, and school personnel.
