There was no asphalt and concrete like now, but mostly dirt roads. Otherwise, the difference (apart from phones, cars and motorcycles) is not very big.
Yah i used to live like that back in the 90s when I was just a kid. When I came back 2 years ago for the very first time since 2001 to be honest I was shocked on how Manila have improved significantly. It wasn't as messy as it used to be. I remember it was trashy, polluted, and gangs back then was crucial. Because u couldn't just go to someone's turfs , especially when you're not from the area or else you gonna get beat up or stabbed. We always had fights and street riots all the time Lol. My childhood was the best cause we didn't have cellphones and we all love to play outside. Miss those old days. But overall the Philippines have improved alot and I know for a fact that it's gonna get better and better as long as our people vote the right people in the government. I just hope that Isko will be the next president. Thanks for this vid.

What a great video, you know the Philippines is just like Mexico. You can go to nice areas of the city and see modern stores and wealth and go to other areas of the same city and see people barely getting by. But they are still happy with what they have 🙏. Why I enjoyed the Philippines do much. Thank you!

Here's something I noticed, everyone seems to be friendly. You can see the pure innocence in most (if not all) of the children's eyes regardless of their environment.
VERY narrow, yet they manage to make it work! With smiles too 😀 I have so much respect for people who make the best of their life no matter any environment. Yet even so, please always be mindful of your surroundings, it's almost a maze. 😅

My grandpa spent some time there during ww2 and he said they were the nicest people he ever met !! It didn’t matter that they didn’t have much but they always shared what they had!!! Wouldn’t mind retiring there one day!!!😜🤟
Hi @Brian McK there are lots of better places to live in here in the Philippines and i just wasnt able to feature them here. These videos im showing are usually the middle to lower class areas. Hopefully, i could show you next time the better areas where you can retire and live 😊

On the contrary, this looks like China, so many mysterious alleys to explore. But the new china looks all boring, just highrises behind fences where people are held prisoner by the guards they hired, and highways where cars drive at a high speed. There's nothing fun about walking down a street like that as a tourist. I miss China 10 years ago so I'll be moving to the Philippines soon because I love walking down alleys like this, visiting the shops, talking to locals, buying at local markets. The new china is all about buying groceries on your phone, and never leaving your apartment, living alone. That's not fun, that's depressing. China has demolished and redeveloped all that made China fun to be a tourist in, those alleys you could explore. So I hope Manila doesn't redevelop them.

Ang sikip nang alley way, almost like trespassing na sa sikip. Buti naipasok pa nila mga motorbike at mababait mga nakatira diyan. It is so interesting to see small sari-sari stores in many of these alley ways, even in the slums in Tondo. Daming bata. I met a beautiful Filipina online Sept. 2019. Spent 3 weeks with her starting Feb. 2, 2020.....just as covid was devouring souls. Covid kept us apart 2 1/2 years. I just spent August 2022 with her and she is now carrying our child due June 2023, to be born in USA. She is hoping for a girl with my blue eyes. The Philippine people are beautiful. What makes your videos DIFFERENT is that you don't just walk around, but show us some glimpses of what is happening, up-down left and right. Those occasional glimpses into the life of the people, the info snippets, casual conversations with the folks/kids on the way shows how similar we people are. Thousands of kilometers apart, different traditions, culture, languages; yet we are somehow connected and do many things the same way knowingly/unknowingly. Much love from Kerala!!

Amazing to see people live and survive in these places, and mostly making the best of it with a bit of a smile. However, it would be better and more authentic (at least for me), if the heavy-set lady with the red shirt wasn't in every frame, she becomes like a fixture that can't be unseen imho. Ang sikip nang alley way, almost like trespassing na sa sikip. Buti naipasok pa nila mga motorbike at mababait mga nakatira diyan. It is so interesting to see small sari-sari stores in many of these alley ways, even in the slums in Tondo. Daming bata. Is it a fashion trend for girls (and boys) to dye their hair with blonde highlights? Or even full head blonde? I see alot on this video, and in some of the Badjao tribe videos. Bagong fashion trend yata..

I met a beautiful Filipina online Sept. 2019. Spent 3 weeks with her starting Feb. 2, 2020.....just as covid was devouring souls. Covid kept us apart 2 1/2 years. I just spent August 2022 with her and she is now carrying our child due June 2023, to be born in USA. She is hoping for a girl with my blue eyes. The Philippine people are beautiful. I had been following LarryPH, KryptoTrekker for some time now.
What makes your videos DIFFERENT is that you don't just walk around, but show us some glimpses of what is happening, up-down left and right. Those occasional glimpses into the life of the people, the info snippets, casual conversations with the folks/kids on the way shows how similar we people are. Thousands of kilometers apart, different traditions, culture, languages; yet we are somehow connected and do many things the same way knowingly/unknowingly.

Amazing to see people live and survive in these places, and mostly making the best of it with a bit of a smile. However, it would be better and more authentic (at least for me), if the heavy-set lady with the red shirt wasn't in every frame, she becomes like a fixture that can't be unseen imho. I guess she's the pathfinder...???
