    The dynamic 3D map is really amazing. The way it moves in and out and is easy to ready is quite impressive. It seems very well designed and thought out.

    I remember when this was just a tech demo showcasing planetary entry and exit like a decade ago

      Thank you! Although the version is pretty dated, flight is still the same in the current one.

    Oh man this has me sold. A game with real space combat and ships breaking off into smaller engagements. Unlike that trash EVE online where everyone targets the same thing and presses F1 with 0 brain cells or skill required.

      Well, focus fire is a valid thing here too. There are missiles and torpedoes, and with regular cannons it is as possible... of course, with more thinking required :D
      As it is more physics based than EVE, all focus fire considerations are more natural, as well as realistic due to spread and target's evasion dictating damage. Other recordings have some examples of focus fire iirc.

      I'm not sure why this game would be like real space combat, the closeness of this combat reminds me more of WW1 and WW2 air combat. Even today air combat is usually done far beyond visible range and drones play a more important role, like for reconnaissance and even for combat. And when you watch documentary's of pilots , air combat goes usually like this => "Once the enemy jets got in targeting range, I shot the missile and flew back".
      Is it skill or just better technology that wins battles, I think it's the last one.

      The game is made more for dogfighting fun in that regard :D
      Its realistic explanation can be explained in two ways also:
      1. Long-range and extreme-range warfare is present in the world, just not in game. For gameplay reasons or development constraints, something like interplanetary warp missile, although possible, is just not included.
      2. Warp drives and immensely efficient thrusters also change the space combat a lot. For instance, with current tech level, best way to fight is at long range to be able to dodge, while with these technologies implemented, same ship would be better off fitting battleship cannons, and bumping Whipple shield thickness a real lot, to arrive in close proximity to target, and pulverize it. And the target would do the same. Hypervelocity passes would still work, but they would be way easier to counter with just strafing, or spooling up warp drive and shifting to the side.
      I think it's not either skill or tech, but both are involved in a win. I have seen DCS players doing clever missile fights, and have not tried ever, so they would beat me no problem, given everything is equal. Tech changes the required skill, kind of. We adapt to balance issues in I:B even)

    has there ever been enough population in this game to have more than a handful of players at the same time? that's kinda the main thing that keeps me from coming back to it, it's just random pve in these giant furballs

      There certainly were many players at Early Access launch: th-cam.com/video/JMA9d_oblkk/w-d-xo.html
      More recently, more players join together at community events. It is best to organize beforehand at the moment though.

    this video's a great ad for the game. i wish they'd have a persistent single player campaign though. having to restart everything everytime you finish the game is lame

      Maybe it will come after 1.0, or at least later on with mods. Current lack of story and campaign gives more freedom in terms of modifying the game and balancing ships. And it also does not require plenty of content.
      Although more content would be nice. I-Novae team agrees with that, but the budget is tight.

    I have been watching this games development for YEARS...
    When are we going to actually see an initial release?

    • @random_passerby4672
      @random_passerby4672  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If all goes well - within a year, probably. According to latest development update on Steam, as well as discussions on I-Novae Discord, 1.0 is planned to come in early 2023. The polishing phase, as it is called, is starting soon, somewhere after the upcoming update for 0.9.X .

    • @random_passerby4672
      @random_passerby4672  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, to an extent, yes. There are similarities and even shared issues (like zerging with small ships). But right now, there are differences too. Like, in newer versions - see newer recordings for those - battles are ordered one at a time, but all stations and bases are open for a player attack at any time. And it is too easy to swoop in and start tearing them apart.

    is this pvp?

    • @random_passerby4672
      @random_passerby4672  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is some PvP, technically :D
      I avoided striking players in full force that time, and mostly focused on AI, to not interfere with bombing experience much. All ships with deep red/blue markers are AIs, orange and light-blue with callsigns beside them are players. So it's mostly PvE, but not entirely. All these AI ships only replace players, who would otherwise be piloting ships.
