A steamer would help relax the carpet

I just put a carpet from the same manufacturer in my ‘89 ex cab 4x (3vze), and I was really happy with the quality of it. I spent a little less than $300, I think because I got the extra thick backing to deaden noise and for insulation.
Either that or I got ripped off, if you were under two.
Anyway, yeah, had to cut in the shifters, seatbelts and trim the length and width. But, better large than small!
I didn’t have a carpet to use as a pattern, because I did the last one myself using an un-formed marine carpet, and I’m not a carpet guy, so I cut it all up removing it. Live and learn. It wasn’t quite right anyway.
But the point is, it’s a really high quality carpet, all molded for the pickup, and it went great putting it in.
I removed the belts, the lower dash (for another reason, but it made good room), the front seats, the plastic trim at the back under the rear seats and the center console. I worked off the two ridges formed for the underseat wire raceways or seat bolting stiffeners, and it went great.
Can’t remember last time I bought something and thought to myself “this is a really nice high quality thing!” It looks great.
That is all. As you were.

A clothing steamer helps with the carpet in forming, smoothing and shaping. Additionally you can get inexpensive insulation to install on the floor. Which is a great sound deadening. There are expensive, "car / truck " brands on the market. But you can get the less expensive "insulation " from pretty much any hardware store.

I used the same company for my carpet replacement on my last 85. I opted for the extra thick batting on the underside. The extra thickness required a little extra shaving here and there for bolt alignment and such. I had the original carpet to use as a template though. It appears you weren’t so lucky.

Carpet looks great, as you've said aftermarket. It may not be factory, you've got it down and trimmed really well my man. And once it relaxes, you may have to once again do some adjusting and trimming. All and all it looks as good as factory to me. Hell!! I've seen some reinstalled by those who do interiors for a living not do as well of an job with carpet as you have here. So don't sweet it. The way it's all coming together you have done one hack of a job that you can be proud of. Besides those who look for something to complain about when it's someone's else's hard work are a dime a dozen. But these are those people who sit all day doing nothing with their own lives. Have agreat day my friend and may God continue to Bless you and your.

But I see our interests have carried in a similar way, I too have a toyota pickup and I like to touch every bolt on it, currently I am finishing a frame extension and suspension for my double cab pickup(EU spec) to accept an Extra Cab bed. This will greatly increase wheelbase and total length. I don't have much youtube content, (but some). But you can find me on the Facebook as well where I document the process very well. - All the best... Greetings from Iceland!
