Hard to say last season, it was strange for Ricciardo.
The only thing that is true, if we can believe Drive to Survive, is that in the test with the Red Bull he did a Silverstone, on his fast lap, he would have qualified right next to Max on front row. Sergio with the same car on the same circuit qualified P15.
We need more data when he's in top condition, last year he came in unexpected, broken his wrist and probably wasn't 100% operational by the end of the season. Let's see how that goes this season.

I really don't understand European's wet dreams of sacking Pérez. If it were up to you lot you would have already taken a rifle and shoot him. Worst of all for Ricciardo who has 1 test in Red Bull senior team and his performance at best was mediocre in Alpha Tauri. All I see is nostalgia from Horner (as seen in D2S) and people like Will of seeing Ricciardo given a second chance. That second chance you would not give an Albon who has definitely outperformed the car given to him. Pérez has done his part, secured the 1-2 & championship and helped Max get his first title (first titles are the hardest things to do mentally, just look at how Max relaxed after becoming world champion). Seriously I want to know how many European's are at the top of their game to judge Pérez as harshly. If anything, Pérez has been able to survive the extremely negative environment of RB and you lot on social. 98% of you would have quit, crashed or have had a mental breakdown. I hope for once you become human.

because of Honda. If it was anybody else he would be gone by now, 3 seasons in and look

I've got a crazy idea, but it might actually work out for RB. If Perez doesn't improve, make it three-horse-race. Let RIC,LAW and TSU drive for RB alternatingly. The one with the best results gets the seat permanently. It puts a lot of pressure on the drivers but creates an exiciting teammate competition that if announced properly could even improve marketing by attention.

To answer this, Red Bull need to decide want they want from that second seat. If they want a traditional Ferrari-esc Number 1/Number 2 driver then Perez has shown he’s good enough. I can’t see Ricciardo taking a Number 2 seat (nor Tsunoda for that matter). That leaves either Perez or Lawson. I can’t see any former Red Bull drivers coming back, because burning bridges by kicking people out every other race does not endear you.
If they want a Merc-style equal opportunities pair, then Ricciardo has to be the best option. The trouble will be if Verstappen is willing to accept that and play the team game (100% he absolutely would not, he does not play nice with other drivers!).

Well, what about Carlos Sainz Jr.? He got into F1 through Red Bull's Junior ranks and is perhaps the hottest free agent in 2025. Surely, Red Bull would consider him now that news break out about Audi's wishi-washy involvement with the Sauber outfit (it's weird to call this team Stake F1 Team KICK - it's goofy as hell), right? The issue I see is that the team is bound by the will of both Verstappen's - Max and Jos. They basically call the shots now and would prefer a safer option (on paper) like Ricciardo instead of Sainz (considering that the two didn't really got along while being teammates at Toro Rosso) or even Lawson. IMO when Ricciardo left for Renault, Red Bull should've bitten the bullet and give Sainz Ricciardo's seat in 2019, because it'd have been in the team's best interests irrespetive of the wishes of both Max and Jos and the situation would've been far better than throwing both Gasly and Albon into the meat grinder.
Another thing that we need to take into account is the recent allegations surrounding Christian Horner. I don't say that it will happen 100%, but let's say that Max is fed up with the internal dysfunction and/or doesn't believe in the RBPT-Ford partnership once the new power unit regulations kick in 2026. Max has contract until 2028, but I doubt that he'd stay for the remainder of the contract. You see, Max is happy at Red Bull as long as they keep on winning. But the competition will surely catch on this season (regardless what the testing says) and Honda's input on the power unit will only get them so far. And that Honda input will be gone for 2026. And honestly, I start to think that like Audi, Ford may be getting cold feet as well, leaving Red Bull out in the dark. And to think - the teams and Liberty rejected Andretti and GM/Cadillac (who were willing to pump resources) and now the two new players may have second thoughts

RedBull does not have a driver problem, it wants to have a driver problem. The only valid reason for Here to cash in Racing Bin is to get young talent ready for RedBull. So if I was the most hated person on F1 Twitter, I would fire Perez, get Ricciardo to replace him, fill Daniel's free seat with Liam Lawson and Tsunoda who looks like a karting champion is probably just good enough for that, so he can get out the way for Iwasa. Maybe that was a bit harsh on Yuki, but he's a bit underwhelming and simply not the great talent some people claimed he was during I cannot remember what season. It is actually a surprise to me that the Terminator's Grandfather (Helmut Marko) has not yet erased him from F1 existence. If he makes moves nobody expected and keeps Max on his tows (lol) he will stay.
Lawson gets the Ricciardo seat if he moves on, if not, not. And they have no problem doing that either. They would immediately put him in there if they thought hes a world beater.
