Looks like Orbit DVD has this one in stock (while they last!) for $55: www.orbitdvd.com/products/add-packshot-the-witch-4k-uhdblu-ray-limited-edition-region-freeb?_pos=2&_sid=b67b0bc4f&_ss=r
Orbit is where I got mine from. They've become my go-to for foreign releases in the last couple years, such a great shop.
They are sold out now
@@bigdadd09able there's a couple here and there (including amazon)
@@MonkeyspankO $96.99 from Amazon.
@@kilroy4103 yeah, they're sold out at the main "reasonable" euro retailers, so your main bet is importers with markup. Maybe, they'll re-issue at some point, but it is limited so idk
"No, you don't need a 2nd copy. No, you don't need a 2nd copy. No, you don't need a 2nd copy." "clicks add to cart" ..... sigh.
Exactly my thoughts… and exactly what I did. Worth it.
I pre-oreded this back in May, and I'm SO HAPPY with how it looks! Particular the scene at the end with Thomasin and Black Phillip. It looked almost black-and-white with a yellow hue on the previous 4K, but now it has much starker contrast and vivid colors despite the dark background (which is handled much better). I watched them back-to-back and I personally think this is a MASSIVE upgrade.
Good to know because that's the scene that most disappointed me in the Lionsgate 4K. It was not any better than the blue ray and I got rid of the disc. Looking forward to a properly lit (lighted?) version.
@@jmchez Was the HDR that bad? I only watched the Lions Gate 4k in Dolby Vision and was less than impressed. Felt like blacks were washed out the entire way through. In contrast Gretel and Hansel has an excellent 4K HDR grading on its German 4K release. Radically different vivid color timing that changes the experience for the positive in my opinion.
I pre-ordered this last month and I got it on Friday. It's so good and it looks great! What I thought was so interesting while watching the special features was that Eggers thought his own film was overrated and didn't believe it was going to do as well as it did. He ran into so many production issues that he just wanted to make enough money to get another project green lit, but in actuality it launched his career.
Great review again! Thanks, Jeff. I bloody love Second Sight. They're the first label I ordered from when I started collecting (again!) earlier this year. Got the limited edition of The Babadook as my first 4K movie. :) This release of The VVitch is - as you said already - a tremendously beautiful set. Love everything about it! Cheers, mate! Sebastian
You know what, I don't know this movie very well, but what I can say is that, that's the kind of edition that makes me love physical media. When a movie is a reference for you, having in your collection such a nice edition of that movie is so satisfying and unfortunately those, so complete and beautiful edition becomes more and more usual...
Being in the UK, I'm very lucky to have easy access to such a fantastic boutique physical media distributer, and I have to say they've done an excellent job once again! I was so excited to get this one, and was not disappointed with my purchase. This film is definitely creeping into my top 10 horror films of all time!
I have it, great edition. Paid $62 shipping included. Second Sight is tremendous, I also have The Babadook, The Guest, Drive and both Dawn of the Dead sets from them. Look forward to their upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hitcher releases.
@@downinthemuff
Already preordered
I would LOVE this company to do "The Tragedy of Macbeth". I know its only on Apple streaming but I want a physical copy so badly. A 4k edition from them would be a dream, and I'd buy it immediately lol.
SAME. I'm hopeful it will get a physical release eventually. The Sound of Metal got a physical release recently (which was Apple+) and A24 sometimes does exclusive physical releases on their site, like they did with Lamb.
I love these collector's editions but I really wish they'd release a standard version that doesn't cost ~$60 like Second Sight did with Drive. I want to pick this up but I can't justify that price tag, nor do I want all that extraneous stuff.
Again, I'm so happy this exists but would love a no-frills version with a $25 or $30 price point
I wholly agree. It would actually make more money for Second Sight. Also not everyone is interested in all the extra guff
Honestly for most releases, I just want the film. The odds of me ever watching any special features for any of my movies is below 5%
Now $36 on amazon.
I'll also be waiting a long while for the price to drop much more (or a standard version is let into the wild, or a lucky ebay buy).
Thanks Jeff! Placed my order while listening to your review. Was waiting for your input before I spent my money? DiabolikDVD was NOT IN STOCK, so I just ordered from Second Sight.
Great choice. I often buy stuff form Diabolik, but for some reason I always buy directly from Second Sight. They're - just like Diabolik - great with packaging and wrapping. My copy arrived last week in perfect condition. Have fun with you VVitch set! :)
Orbit DVD has them in stock as well!
@@JeffRauseo yeah, I had already placed my order with SS when I heard you mentioned Orbit. I would feel bad canceling my order with SS now. Thanks for all you do buddy!
@@JeffRauseo where is The Lighthouse 4k
I bought this movie as a blind buy five years ago on DVD after hearing a lot of good things about it. I didn't care for it a whole lot on the first watch but enjoyed it more the second time around. Although I don't at all feel compelled to upgrade from my DVD, I'm glad to hear that this 4K release is decent. The book and art cards are impressive looking. I can definitely see where you would appreciate the history associated with this movie!
I got this from Second Sight (and also got Drive). This also marked the first time I got a disc outside Region 1 DVD or Region A Blu-ray. (And that gave me a chance to demonstrate the multi-region capabilities of my 4K player =D ). The packaging instantly reminded me of the Arrow-issued Donnie Darko Blu-ray. Seeing it reminded me of how I saw it in the cinema.
Tried to order this from a vendor I’ve never dealt with before and learned my lesson on which company not to preorder from. Thankfully I was able to order directly from Second Sight.
Wish I could find this. I really wanted this version
The special features are great, I really enjoy the interviews. Now that I know that the ending was originally going to be Thomasin riding black Phillip into the woods and then into the sky I can’t get it out of my head. Clearly Eggers couldn’t get that image out of his head either, because he had the Valkyrie in Northman riding into the sky. Would be a sick tattoo to get Anya riding a goat
Love your videos, man!!! Thanks for your time and efforts to keep home video alive!
Any plans to review the Drive 4K release from Second Sight?
Jeff, speaking of Witches, you know what movie I saw recently for the first time that I really liked ? Autopsy of Jane Doe with Brian Cox.
I liked it too. It surprisingly actually kinda scared me at moments as well
@@lurkkker It was good. I know that is pretty common now but I was amused by the British actors, some from Game of Thrones, speaking with American accents.
Love this movie and the price is justified given all of the phenomenal content in this package, but $75 is more than I’m willing to spend on a movie I already own.
I feel the same. And then I'd be even more gutted if A24 ended up doing a shop exclusive version of it, because I own all of those so far and I'd want the complete collection. I'll probably just pick up a Second Sight standard edition if A24 doesn't announce a new edition in the next couple years.
Wow, $75. Amazon needs to label it as 4k in title.
Yeah this release is the one to own if you enjoyed the movie, the extras alone was worth the purchase imo.
would be cool to tlak about the differences between both of these 4k's
As of August 18, it's back in stock at Orbit. I just ordered it, so if you missed out on the first release like I did, you can go there NOW.
Got mine from Diabolik dvd love second sight films. I own 15 of their limited editions. Even the ones that are just Blu-ray look amazing. Great packaging but I also have a backup region free player.
welp, I did not think I was gonna be making a purchase tonight, didn't even know this was coming out. great review as always tho and I'm glad I had the bell icon turned onXD
Also no problems playing the blu Ray if you live in the UK, we can play it just fine.
The Second Sight release of the Witch is top notch. Looking forewarn to their imminent release of 4K of Dog Soldiers and their Blu-ray of two classic hammer films - The Mummy and Frankenstein and the Monster from hell.
The Witch got a 4K re-release?! Goin to buy. Only available in the UK... damn it! I hope it will get a US release. The packaging, bonus features, and the goodies looks great!
The Second Sight version (best) that he reviewed is on U.S. amazon.
Super cool. I really like this film, so I'll have to give this release a look sometime. Nothing beats direct involvement from the director.
How's the audio? Atmos, bass, dialog. Etc...
Can you find Event Horizon 4k ANYWHERE?! Trying to find this 4k movie is like pulling teeth!
Should I worry buying this from second sight and being all the way in Tennessee? No problems getting it to the states?
I'll just patiently wait for the region free/A release.
Might have to wait a few years. But all 4K discs are Region Free.
Just ordered mine!
Hands down one of my absolute favorite horror movies of all time...🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
If only Arrow’s quality control of their 4k discs was up to the standard of their box sets
Why you never picked up the 4k of the movie "The Princess Bride" and reviewed it? its really great 4k
My order should be coming in soon 🙏
The. Witch. 4k. UHD Blu-ray review with. New. HDR. Grade second sight Limited. Edition
Mine finally came in today!!
I used to own the standard blurays thought it looked great...this 4k must be amazing
I had to order it directly from Second Sight.
Is the PQ a lot different from the regular 4K? I've seen scans of that & I 100% prefer the blu-ray. I would've bought this set regardless, but missed out. $100 on eBay isn't an option. 😫
Love this picture; an incredible release
Great review man.
Love your reviews, but was disappointed not to see your usual side-by-side screen shots showing the differences in color grading and HDR.
He’s busy moving so that might be why?
@@darthkahnobis He gets those shots from capsaholics as most people do not have the means to take true hdr shots. If he were to take his own photos he would have to rip the 4k to his PC with makemkv then take the shots with something like 5k media player which let's you convert hdr to sdr in photo form.
@@a-v-karin7617 Well, that's a ton of info a short comment. Thanks!
And does it have DolbyVision?
@@Piece-O-Pie YES
Wasnt the first uhd disc for witch dolby vision? Does this one have it too?
Yes, it was Dolby Vision, but it was pretty lackluster. This one is still Dolby Vision but is a new color-grade, and it is much much better than the previous Dolby Vision release!
@@kadenprows8079 ah ok thanks for clearing that up. Didn’t hear any mention of DV on this vid..
Is it region free?
Initially wasn’t going to pick this up, as I already own the standard 4k uhd release, but when they brought Eggers aboard to supervise I decided to pick it up.
I liked the witch or the VVitch but I could not get into lighthouse .
The question is will the new 4K release coming in September be this new transfer of the old Lionsgate one?
The artwork of Black Phillip is so much better. Most BD releases had a girl walking into the woods where you can clearly see by her silhouette she’s wearing a miniskirt.
I haven't seen the movie yet so I may have to add this to my list.
been waiting for your review 🙏🙏
Will this work on US players? Is there a US version slated to release?
Really enjoy these reviews
Damn long gone, I'm literally on a plane heading back to mass from Qatar, would have been perfect to settle back in lol
Ooof... 75 bucks? I know it's a limited edition and all but that's super steep.
Paid $62 when I preordered it, it’s OOP at the site I got it but it can be found cheaper if you look around.
Thanks
Its sold out on Amazon, any reccomendations for other sources?
Check some sites like Diabolik DVD, or Orbit DVD
Hey Jeff. Quick random question. Why would a media company take the time and expense of restoring and scanning 4k movie then put it on a 1080p blu ray opposed to a 4k UHD disk?
Tons of films are finished/scanned in 4K and released on 1080p bluray, it’s pretty much standard at this point. For example if you purchase a 4K and it has an accompanying bluray, that’s exactly what has taken place.
because they can sell way more Blu Ray's and they will look better that way, plus then they have the 4K scan ready to go for a potential 4K release later on
Will you review Drive 4K?
I bought Dawn of the Dead, The Guest and Drive 4K from second sight. I had the VVitch pre-ordered but ultimately cancelled it because I don't love the film as much as the others. I purchased the other 4K by Lionsgate instead. I have huge fomo now though, lol.
Amazon and Orbit link broken.. just fyi.
I'm in Canada... So this may be the issue
They don't sell this anymore.
This is a great movie and I purchased this 4K disc. I haven’t watched it yet, but love some of the back story and info you gave us.
Btw I’m from greater Boston area! 👍🏻
I'm surprised that a lot more directors don't want control. This is Anya Taylor Joy right? I became a fan from New Mutants and Queen's Gambit.
I was excited to buy this until I found out it costs $75
Second Sight is in the UK. That’s why it costs more. It has to be shipped to the US.
I live in the UK and buying direct still cost me £42... So not a cheap purchase even on its home turf.....
Orbit has it for $55.
Ouch, gotta admit while it looks amazing, even 55 bucks is hard on my budget. Plus I've got a huge wish list
@@drunklink350 Also remember you can get the standard 4k non special edition
Darn just got it on bluray oh well.
Any news on Second Sight's Texas Chain Saw Massacre release coming out?
80 freakin' dollars! It wasn't THAT good a movie. Damn!
bought this once i heard eggers was involved
Amazon currently unavailable
Love that movie. Box set looks great!
Oof that price though
great movie.
Ok now I'm really confused. There was an older 4K from Lions Gate. And on amazon I'm seeing a Universal 4K that releases in a few days. And there's a second sight version. What the hell? Which is the best version???
Second Sight
@@shanerollins3736 how come?
Good job
I liked this movie in an eerie and creepy sort of way. But not enough to justify the price for this. I don’t think this is one of those movies that really benefits enough from this “upgrade”. It is a very basic movie as far as cinematography goes. It doesn’t have huge moving landscapes or special effects. I found the Blu ray and digital of this to be more than sufficient. I realize others will disagree. That’s just my personal take. Where as movies like The Northman even would benefit more than this film from this 4K treatment in my opinion. 🤷♂️
Seems to not be available at Zavvi anymore…
Is the Italian language present?
Need a second opinion here. So I have the Lionsgate 4k and for the most part, I’m happy with it BUT! The HDR on the end scene where she is floating up in the air looks god awful compared to the SDR on the bluray. Anybody else notice this? And second, if so, does that part look better with this new grading? Thanks!
AH! I want this, but it's $100. I love this movie, but not at this price. I dropped the $100 on Drive because that's one of my all time favorites, and it has some cool goodies like the novel and that making of book. Maybe someone will hopefully pick up this transfer here in the states some day
Where is it $100? Orbit DVD had them for $55
@@JeffRauseo Fackin' Amazon has it for $95. Thanks for the heads up with Orbit. Will def order it there as $55 is reasonable
Do u ever actually read the books besides in the reviews here?
We don’t read the books because it contains spoilers.
I'm your fan Great video.
Vibes
That's so yummy. Beautiful presentation
I don’t like the way Freddy looking at you man. Be careful.
I have this release in my collection, but haven't had a chance to check it out. I need to re-watch "The Witch" again. I saw it only once in the cinema, and loved it - except for the finale. Eggers completed his vision, but it was just a bad idea to take the route he did IMO. Otherwise, it's brilliant.
ugh do i have to get the hole book thing? I love the movie but have zero interest in the extras. I like the film for the film and how it was shot.
Do you want to be a filmmaker?
It how they film it
$75 for this?? or $16 for the 4K 2019 version? That's and easy choice, get the 2019 version and use the remaining $59 for pizza and beer!
Orbit has it for $55
@@jmchez not any more. Sold out now
@@djsoulfilter Hopefully they'll restock. I probably got one of the last ones.
This film should have been filmed wide 2:35:1. I dont understand why some of these directors dont use the panavision widescreen. Eggers films in weird aspect ratios. You would think these up and coming directors would learn from someone like JohnCarpenter.
Robert Eggers never recommend the original 4K copy
Dark films shouldn't be in 4k if you can't tell
I love my Dawn of the Dead 4K box set by Second Sight. I’m considering this one, even though I already own this film in 4K.
New England is a creepy place… Haha. Funny.
I bought the other version.... and it was a first time watch... and I'm sorry but.. both the wife and I... thought the actual film was terrible. 4k visuals were nothing special either. I will not be purchasing this new upgraded version
