  • Had a Nexus 7 2013 that wouldn't power up or turn fully off. The tablet wouldn't take any input at all. I did some trouble shooting and found a solution

October 2020 and I still use my N7 (2013) regularly. This morning I dropped the tablet (in the case) and it would't turn on. Tried all the Power and Volume Button tricks and nothing. Popped of the case back and the connector you describe at 6:27 was the culprit. Reconnected it and voila! I'm back in business. Thanks for a great video.

Oh wow, thought my Nexus 7 is dead for good, but now THIS has made it back to life!!!! Unbelievable, thank you so much bro!

Wait, now it can be powered on. But after the Google log, it flashes the Marshmallow animation with four circles and then shows @Optimizing Apps xx of xx@. As soon as the optimization is finished, it goes back to the animation and this loop continues on. How could I get out of the loop?

Dude! I just got 20+ of these things that wouldn’t power up, no one else at work could get them to work either. A simple YT search for this and we have 20+ working tablets and suddenly I look tech savvy haha.
    Thank you.

DUDE!!!! Thank you SO much for this. I had tried EVERYTHING but it did not turn on. I then opened it up as you said and that small patch was loose. Took the tape off, then set it, up the tape back on and BAM! it started working again. Thank you so much cos all my Uni books and so many important stuff are on my tablet and I could not imagine loosing them and then spending money to fix or get a new one. PHEW! thanks a lot!

OMG! I have had so many issues with a stuck screen and failure to launch that I finally bought a new Samsung tablet. Shortly after purchase, I tried the Nexus again and it came on so I gave it to my husband. He has loved it and played with it for over a month now, but today it would not go beyond the Google logo. After many attempts at the re-boot methods, I found this video and while I really didn't want to take it apart, I did apply some pressure on the back cover right over the logo and voila', it works perfectly! Thank you so much.

Thank you SO SO much. I'd tried everything and you were my last resort before I had a meltdown. My silly son has a habit of punching his tablet when he's not getting a response (because his screen is covered in child-hand gunk!) I've fixed this stupid thing so many times by opening it up but this time, I was totally stumped! You saved my life and my holiday next week! Thanks again! X
Also if anyone has trouble peeling that tape back, or if you're too worried, don't peel the tape back. Just push gently on the little rectangular grey thing under the tape and you might find it pops back in. That's what I did and it was popped out - clicked back in and voila! Heard a beep and it came back on without me touching any power buttons on the side.

The cable that was loose is the lcd ribbon cable, the two connectors below the wide flat cable are the digitiser/touch screen

Thank you so very much! The 60 second power button trick did not work, but the power/volume down (plus changing to a brand new micro USB cable) got it charging. I'm now waiting for it to reach 100% before turning it on.
Fully charged now, turned it on, worked like brand new. Thanks again.

Gracias

I had a problem not charging well. It was behaving like the charger was loose connected. So it was flickering the charge and not charged battery symbol. Even if I charged the tablet for the whole night by turning it OFF, it was charged only up to 40%.I unplugged and popped it back the ribbon going across the battery. Did the same for the battery connection. Now it has started charging well. Realized that it is just because of the loose connection of ribbon connector and/or battery connector.
