If I had a nickel for every time I saw a crackheaded sprinkler-only challenge run, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
If anyone’s wondering who the other one is, Nikolinii did a no-sprinkler run on stream a few days after Side Order dropped. He did it a little different though - he used the Pearl Drone sprinkler, had minimal hacks on (including only 1 life) and he didn’t take any chips that would directly boost his damage (things like poison ink included). He also may or may not have done it first try

Oh I seeeee, yeah pearl sprinkler helps a lot out especially for portals and laying out some ground to you to swim in but I thought to just take that all away and focus on the grade A standard issue sprinkler sub@@xraenon1664

The sprinkler shoots ink out in an arc which starts out going upwards and then outwards. The reason why you couldn’t finish off portals on flat ground was because you placed it directly below. to maximize vertical range and closing off portals you should put the sprinkler a little bit away from the base of the portal so that some of the drops will go high enough to hit it. It does a lot less damage but as long as the portal’s base is inked it will not regenerate health.

Explosion radius and damage DO affect the explosions from enemies dying, and also impact the spring-use explosion, alongside portals and Lucky Bombs, which is what is useful on sprinker only.
I don’t like how the description isn’t that accurate. It should say like “increases Explosion and sub weapon radius/damage” because not much people know that the sprinkler can be effected by it because it isn’t considered an explosion
@@superiorslime7296no, you misunderstood, it doesn't affect the sprinkler directly. It affects any explosions, including the ones that you can trigger with the sprinkler or various other means of damage.
I love how one of the chapters is "what no poison ink does to a man" and I can relate. Poison ink is goated with the swaws and if I don't have it on every run I feel dumb

So if you are allowing lucky bombs in these challenge runs, then a nice little tip is that both splash damage and splash radius buff them. It also buffs the damage and explosion radius of portals when you destroy them, but that doesn’t matter too much in the smollusk fight
yeah allowing lucky bombs helps a lot without them would be harder but maybe next time I'll make a far more strict rule with only using SPRINKLER no pearl glide either perhaps
@@TrinityRBG I think pearl gliding is fair game since it’s purely a mobility tool and no offense capability unless you have something on the pearl drone, like splat bomb.
Anyways, maybe a challenge on no swim for and no pearl drone glide perhaps? Your allowed to use swim form only to cancel the pearl glide at the start of the level and when it auto deploys from falling from a high place (though both can naturally be cancelled just by firing the main weapon I believe.
@@TrinityRBGapparently The splash buffs also affect the sprinkler itself.
I think discs are fair game, since they are just items that spawn after kills with the Sprinkler, similar to lucky bombs, inc tanks and armor. Also they are part of the Lucky chips, not Pearl chips.
I would have probably also allowed pearl sprinkler, since its a type of Sprinkler, but in the end its always the decision of the person doing the challenge, based on how hard they want it to be.
I agree on both fronts. Pearl sprinkler is just a mobile sprinkler and the disks don’t even do damage they just stall. Drone item drops would probably be ok too.

I feel like you should be allowed to do a full run where you can use whatever you want but the palette has to only be chips related to buffing the sprinkler. THEN when you get to Smollusk, only use sprinkler

would honestly love if this was a series!!!! no pressure of course, and don't force youreself, but all the different possibilities with chips & challenges would definitely be very entertaining !!!!
Regarding the discs and the squid rolls honestly it’s up to you about the challenge whether how hard or easy it is because you’re the one who’s doing it. If I were you, I would’ve allowed poison ink because it technically kills from the ink from the sprinkler itself just like how the sprinkler causes the lucky bombs to kill the jello guys. I appreciate your honesty about this challenge tho.

Nah, the rest of the run was legit enough that I'd count the discs and lucky bombs as ok. GGs
Just finished an all sprinkler run as well, lemme try to offer some warnings;
1. Don't do this run if you don't have 2 hours to spend on it.
2. Don't do this run if you don't have a basic understanding of how to play splatoon/side order
3. Don't do this
Now some advice:
1. You can just do a lucky run, the biggest problem with lucky runs is starting them off, and sprinklers can do that easy.
2. Poison, hinderance damage, and sticky ink are an unbeatable combo.
3. Using walls, you can hit almost any target. Almost. I've had the most trouble with splat zones (The flying fish make it impossible) and tower. (These stages are possible, just I'd recommend looking up guides to those stages and seeing if the path is near the ground/a wall with a good angle.)

Love the video. It's simply yet enjoyable and very possible with good planning. The discs I would, however, consider a part of Pearl since it gets locked by the "No Drone" danger.

Genuinely surprised that the run didn't go for pearl sprinkler or even ink storm. In my mind I think all of those in a general same type of attacking.
This is more insane than splat bombs only, which Im thinking about trying soon (and I mean splat bombs from you, no pearl splat bombs or lucky bombs, just your splat bombs, however passives like poison ink are fine)

I'd say that Disc and Lucky Bomb are different than Squid Attack because Squid Attack is something that you have direct control over while the other two are luck dependent.
(I was also screaming whenever there was a disc in the final boss fight)
I'm almost certain that poison ink can be used to break portals though?
Exactly what I was thinking. So as long as the base is inked portals would be doable
it can damage portals but not break them, at a certain point the portal gets to high up

@@grimessenot that it gets too high up, poison ink just can't finish off objectives like the portals or the fleeing enemies. I believe it damages them to about 1 hp though
I would say drone spinkler counts too. It would make working around the portals a little easier since it does damage. That said pearl will try her hardest not to hit them.

I personally count the discs as pickups along with armour and the ink refills so they should probably allowed (and they aren't even from chips like squid attack they just up the chances)
i mean, if youre gonna use splat bomb you might as well use the dash attack to your advantage since it's also only tied to the chips and with the sprinkler means you can lock down some tougher fights
To be fair, when you used the disc you basically stood in place for most of its duration, si I think you're clear
How about only octopus form? No shooting, just squid roll attack and maybe pearl drone

Kinda wish they had a test mode where you can mess around with the chips in Side Order to see what does what with what weapon.
If u get more poison ink, and ink the bottom land surrounding the portal it will slowly take damage

There isn't a danger for no sub weapons. Bonus levels are the ones that can give challenges like that (of course, bonuses are optional)

I feel like if you were to do this challenge again, you should definitely go for ink saver (sub) and any sort of chip that would benefit its damage.
I think Lucky Bomb shouldn’t be used. The disk shouldn’t be too much of a problem if you don’t go for the chips for it to spawn in more often from chains.
honestly since u made it more difficult it on your self for not allowing pearl sprinkler i think it fair with the 2 times u used the disc pieces and also the 2nd time it didn't do anything

Every game ending run here could be saved by jumping off the map, it resets enemies. (At least splat zones)
I normally use that strat when the map is too overwhelmed with enemies on difficult floors

F28-29 does not have 8-ball stages I think. I've never seen it generate any stages on these floors that aren't at least slightly difficult.
