Being alone in a new city | London

  • Let me paint you a picture: You just moved to a new city and you're starting to have overwhelming feelings of loneliness, self-doubt, you’re questioning your capableness and you're simply... terrified. Yeah, let's go through this tough first week together.
You're not alone. Take baby steps. It's okay to not be okay. You did it, you made that initial jump and you're now building such a strong foundation within yourself.
“So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder than I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my nightlight on”

I find keeping busy is the best antidote to feeling lonely, and booking events in advance so I have things to look forward to

Not the best time to be moving to London, it won't be shown in it's best light as there are so many problems here, and globally right now. But it's not always been as bad and will hopefully slowly get back to normal over the next few years.

You are a very wise woman. If the fashion route fails you, motivational speaking is the way forward! But fashion won't fail you!

You speak so well and the positivity and understanding of your feelings is impressive. I watched a Navy Seal(I think) speech who said the first task and start of the day is to make your bed and no matter what happens throughout that day you will always come home to a made bed. The little things. Keep your head up Iz(yes I did just abbreviate your name). 👍

London can be a very lonely place, people don't really interact with each other as they would do anywhere outside of London...
I have friends here in London but people are always so busy

I need to go back to setting DND on a timer! And then I had a list of favorites so if my mom wanted to call or text it would still ring.

You are so right. Being alone is good for the soul but when you are young you tend to see it as a failure (if you were popular you wouldn't be on your own would you?). It is hard to get over it but there is so much you can do when if you can get over the fear of being on your own. Just do what you want to do and don't give a damn if you have to do it on your own.

Hey this video was so relatable. I moved to London 3 months ago to pursue my passion for filmmaking and damn it isn't what I expected. It's so lonely aha and it's so hard making friends
You make cool videos! I make films!

We have huge cost of living crisis here. Govts fault. So your few builders going to go up astronomically so if you’ve got a washer dryer they usually take about six hours so my suggestion would be to put them on a fast spin and then take them to an upmarket Laundrette to dry. Should save you a lot of money or even give them to the Laundrette to have a service wash and dry done. 👍🏻

It's been 7 months since i hadn't made friends in London.... People are usually busy in their own life ....all my flatmates are professional they hardly chat and even if they go out ... They go out with the own friends from before or work friends.... I feel lonely in this big city knowing and seeing there's soo much to do outside.. :(

Hi Ali, I’m so sorry to hear that you have been struggling finding friends for awhile. I would recommend researching clubs or extracurricular activities you could possibly join for yourself and potentially you could find a new community through that 🫶🏼 Also, Bumble friends and Meetup I’ve heard are great apps to make friends in London x I hope this helps. Don’t get discouraged… sometimes it takes awhile to find the right people 🤍 I believe in you!

I give up giving you advice! You don't need it! I need advice from you! Your soo impressive izzy! Loved seeing u be raw vulnerable and support others who are also moving to new cities! Nice to see you be lazy too, even though it only lasted an hour or soo! When I see you I just think most single men would love you. But would you avoid love to pursue ur ambitions and passions before you want to settle down? U got talent for motivating supporting others as well as fashion. Loved vlog!! As always 😀

Hey Izzy, if you're feeling adventurous: come to tomorrow's National Gallery Friday Late for fun and conversation in a safe space. Music & bar Ondaatje Wing Main Hall, Schedule 7.15 : Group (200 odd) meets at the Sainsbury Wing of the National. Visit displays, then afterwards if you're comfortable, socialise with the group at a nearby bar. Just look to the right when you enter, go up the stairs to level 1, and meet near the restaurant. If you're a few minutes late, don't worry, you can catch the group just inside the entrance until 7.30. If it's not for you, you can just scuttle for cover at any time! That oughta push you outta your comfort zone... :)

it is so important to find the ability to be by yourself you find different strengths if I could suggest anything I would say use the time to make plans for yourself for the time you are back here it's also when you will discover really good friends who will arrive in your life good luck and your never really alone

Sorry I jumped the gun about the drying I didn’t watch it at the end before I posted If you have a Storage a good idea is to go to your local Lakeland store or online and there is a heated clothes rack I think it’s over £100 but that’s the one everyone is raving about at the moment and it costs about 6p hour to run so very cheap. You don’t wanna be putting clothes on radiators. Good luck. I wish I had your wisdom at your age or even now. I’m older than your mum I think. 😳and still don’t have your wisdom.

Being an attractive women means that you will always have company in any new place if you want it, us men are tired of being ignored especially in London where most women dont even look at us, and I think that making friends in London is easier if you are from a higher socio economic status.

You've come so far, no matter what happens next you can say you've done this. And if you ever need a distraction (or an excuse not to leave your flat) there's a great show on BBC iPlayer called 'The Capture' with new episodes coming out each week. Best of luck as usual

I love the low key vibes in this vlog and that you're showing the realities of moving. It's excellent you're listening to your intuition and your body as to what you're capable of but also, don't be too hard on yourself about being on your phone. I have a feeling this is your subconscious trying to connect you and to help you feel connected to home 💕
p.s. dying to know where you're off to 🙈 and have fun because you would be there now!!

As a man of average social status, I found London incredibly lonely to begin with moving from another part of the UK. The women in London rarely give most men the time of day and it is as if I wasnt seen and didnt matter in the slightest. London is also very very class and status based and treat most people of lower socio economic status as if they are worthless.

God, no hot water, poor you. Common, Izzy Gelato tour!
Go to Kai (amazing) and have a magical roast duck and fashion afternoon tea and chase the blues away.
Vintage book shops, Charring Cross Road, Neal's Yard in Covent Garden, Jermyn Street for the 300 - 400 year old Paxton cheese, Floris perfumes, Trumpers perfumes, Turnbull and Asser amazing shirts for Women and Men, James Lock for a killer hat, Berry's for wine, then the old palace at the end of the street. You will have fun.
I hope you feel better and remember you are never more than 5 mins from a morish cocktail 😜😜🎉🎉🍸🍸
