Am Ugandan and usually work in Rwanda. Fortunately for me, I know French, Swahili, English and some bit of Kinyarwanda. So when am communicating, I usually pick the best way I can talk to a Rwandese. French is known to the Old school Rwandese who are may be over 40 years (not the younger generation)

I lived in Rwanda for 4 years and i can relate to your experiences. The language barrier, yoooh....it took me a minute...i had to learn some basic Kinyarwanda in order to relate with the locals. Overall, Rwanda is a great country to live in...safety, security, working systems...i can take that anytime. Looking forward to watch the Rwanda series. Just discovered your content from the SA roadtrip and ladies, that content is top tier & very insightful! I'm literally binge watching your vlogs...

Hi ladies, thank you for the great incite about your magnificent trip to Rwanda. By the way,Rwanda was never colonized by the French,it was a German colony. Rwanda and Burundi were both provinces of German East Africa ie Tanganyika until 1918. Both Rwanda and Burundi territories were offered to the Belgians by the British after World War One ended as gift. The Belgians and South Africans for helped the allies to defeat Germany in East Africa 1918.

It’s true that Belgium and England were allied against the Germans. But the Belgian Northern Brigade was by itself when it marched into Rwanda in May 1916 and took over the country. Those troops never left for almost half a century. Idem for the Southern Brigade.
      Quote:
In April 1916 two columns of the _Force Publique_ [the Belgian army] advanced on Tabora [Tanganyika Territory]. The first column (Brigade Nord [Northern Brigade]), under the command of [Belgian] colonel Molitor, crossed the German East African border [between Rwanda and the Congo] north of Lake Kivu and occupied Kigali on 6 May 1916. After the conquest of Ruanda in May 1916 by the Belgo-Congolese forces, the brigade advanced to Biharamulo [Tanganyika Territory] on 24 June. It reached Lake Victoria near Mwanza [Tanganyika Territory] on 30 July 1916, after heavy fighting in the Ussuwi region, including a bloody skirmish in Kato on 2 July. St. Michaël fell on 21 August 1916.
The second column (Brigade Sud [Southern Brigade]) occupied Usumbura [Bujumbura] on 6 June and Kitega [Gitega] on 16 June. In early July they advanced southwards from Usumbura along the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. The Belgian ship _Netta_ sailed along the northeast coast in support of the land offensive; this naval presence led to the coastal towns of Rumonge [Burundi] and Nyanza [Burundi] being abandoned by the Schutztruppe [German army]. On 18 July the fortifications at Kigoma [Tanganyika Territory] were bombed by two of the Belgian floatplanes and a petrol depot was set alight. On 19 July aerial photographs were taken and airborne leaflet propaganda was dropped over the old town of Ujiji [Tanganyika Territory], printed in Swahili, to prepare the local population for the arrival of the Allied troops. Brigade Sud took the fort at Kasulu [Tanganyika Territory] on 24 July. In order to avoid _Graf von Goetzen_ falling into Allied hands, General Lettow-Vorbeck [German army] ordered that the ship be scuttled.

Very well explained: both Burundi & Rwanda were offered to the belgians by the British as gift. How can u offer something that does not belong to u as a gift?
The Europeans( specially the brits& french) have caused so much human PAIN in this world. These brits & french have gone around the world, taking lands, enslaving people, ruling people by force and now the audacity when they claim that they are more civilized or that Africans are violent when they are the ones who spread hate & violence all over the world and they should be prosecuted for Human rights violations! Such narcissists & gaslighters only.

Nyumba kumi kumi was created by Nyerere during Ujamaa era. Rwanda adopted many years ago. It is a system that enables the government to know everything about anybody within its jurisdiction. It has both good and bad sides. I lived in Kenya. It is a corrupt and lawless country. Road accidents kill many people than even HIV. Kenya is a nice country. Nonetheless, Kenyan ethnicity and greed dent it a great deal more. Kenya was once a law abiding country matters of traffic laws during Michuki's tenure as a minister responsible. I hated Kenya because of three things, ngeta, karau, and toxic ethnicity. Though not all, Kenyan police are but crap.

In regards to the French Language in Rwanda
Rwandese were under Belgian colony for administration and as usual they adopted the Belgian French language and for decades French became their official administration language
Then one day kagame had disagreement with the France and out of protestation he opted out of the Francophone nation and announced adoption of the English language also as a means to open the country tot the rest of the world (best decision ever)
slowly by slowly french was phased off schools systems and replaced by English
today majority of the current generation Millennials and Gen Z rarely speak french
French is mainly spoken by the older generation

for clarity in regarding to those ''beautiful rwandese women''
those ''beautiful rwandese women'' are of Tutsi ethnicity
Tutsi are originally from south Ethiopia hence the beauty and partial similarity features (especially the hair ) with Ethiopians
Tutsi's are 14 % of the entire rwanda population ...in that 14% also includes the men and kids ,also some of them are based abroad (most flew out after the genocide) , which means those ''beautiful rwandese women'' are veerrrry few , its not easy to see them publicly in the streets of Kigali or Rwanda generally
