Thank you for the shampoo bar tutorial! No one else has done that in their video. I recently switched and was able to do so thanks to the demo you guys posted!
What a great video! Thanks for showing us how you both wake up. It's inspiring viewers to embrace a more waste free lifestyle. Please consider making more of these.
Oew, you can actually also wash and scrum your face with oatmeal. Works great against pimples. Just put a bit of oatmeal with a bit of water and scrum your face with it. The only problem is that your sink will be a mess. Better to use in the shower or in the bath.
madamelicorne yess i did this too! usually i add sugar for scrubbing. i use it once every week and it works like magic and from that point on i dont want to buy those tissue-ish face masks ever again
I really hope you aren't rinsing oats down the sink or tub. The traps will definitely catch them, so you'll have to remove the debris from it yourself often. If not, the water won't stay in the trap and you'll have deadly odors in your place.
Omg yes, I do this all the time, works wonders. It's amazing how it actually suits both dry and oily skin (my sister and I have different types of skin and she uses it also).
Love love love!! Great to see how simple it is to be waste free once you get into the routine! I hope to be like you guys when I grow up, and even now😋 (I'm only 16 right now but trying to slowly go more waste free along with my parents)
I almost never comment on vids cuz of my anxiety, but y'all are just so cute, I really love Josephine's style, and you've inspired me to try to be more zero waste and given actual, practical tips. Thank you!
Great topic. I never knew shampoo and conditioner bars even existed, I'm looking forward to trying those out. Ive been transitioning to a more natural and waste free existence for about 5 years now and I'm still learning new stuff all the time. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Love your Channel girls!! I'm the Environment Officer at my university and I'm planning on holding a workshop series next year about sustainable living, your videos have given me a lot of ideas and concepts to focus on, Thank you so much! ♡
Love your channel. Thank you for spreading the Zero Waste message in such an informative and compassionate manner. You two have inspired me to greatly reduce my waste production and to share the message with my family and friends. Keep up the amazing work! Our Earth needs people like you.
The curling-your-eyelashes-instead-of-using-mascara trick doesn't really work if you have blonde/light eyelashes so they're invisible without mascara no matter how much you curl them :(
Sure! I don't wear mascara so this is just a quick google check but feel free to dig more and maybe post your results here so we can see what you think :) www.realsimple.com/beauty-fashion/makeup/eyes/top-mascaras/best-all-natural-1 www.peta.org/living/beauty/12-vegan-mascaras-to-the-rescue/ Good luck and happy lashes!
I wish I can wash my face with just water. I tried it before and it made my (already acne-prone skin) face worse! I need a lot of creams just to keep it at bay.
Kuinshi lush (if you can) has some nice cleansers that gently exfoliate, and their moisturizers are nice. Plus, you can bring their black product pots back and get a free face mask for each five pots you bring! Change-o, no waste-o!
Read the book Absolute Beauty by Pratima Raichur she has lots of suggestions for treating acne using natural products like essential oils. I used to have so much acne and it all went away when I changed diets although in my case I was just allergic to Crisco, which everyone I know is crazy about in North America. I moved to Europe and started only using olive oil and the acne cleared up. I now only wash my face with natural handmade soap (no chemical gunk) and use a natural plant oil as moisturizer (olive oil, almond oil etc.). You can try different oils, for example I read that castor oil is non-comedogenic.
Ideas for 0 waste mascara and eyeliner: vintage inspired makeup companies like Besame sell solid mascara bars package in recyclable cardboard. You can use it with small brush to put on mascara and even use it as eyeliner if you have a bamboo natural haired eyeliner brush. Or if you got the money buy a metal mascara wand. The whole packing is metal and when your done it can be recycled.
I usually don't wear mascara on a regular basis for uni and stuff but when I go out just curling my lashes wouldn't do the trick, that only works if you're having long dark lashes anyways. But with blonde short lashes like I have curling them doesn't make a difference at all. But other than that cool tips.
Such a cute video you guys!! Love your zero waste tips! This year I am making a huge effort to cut out plastic as much as possible, especially single use and disposable ones, and hopefully soon i'll be leading a fully zero waste life!
Hey Kenza! Alexis from the video here. I actually found when I was using lots of products and putting lots on my face I struggled a lot with acne. It's only when I stopped doing lots of stuff and just started washing with water that I saw my skin start to clear up. I still have pimples now and then - everyone does- but way less than the constant acne I had before. I hope that helps you :)
Hey Kenza Bhugeloo, I'm really sorry if that part of the video made you upset - definitely not our intention. We were just trying to show our own personal morning routines and how others can adopt some (not necessarily all) of the changes in order to be more waste free - not at all trying to dictate how others should behave! We can look into some zero waste make up and do another tutorial! Cheers!
Kenza Bhugeloo I did the same thing..on an everyday basis I don't need makeup. so I rinse with water. but when I do I remove my makeup and dirt with jojoba oil. it's amazing. even removes waterproof mascara and it won't dry out your skin. don't even need moisturizer
A lot of the time, what we ADD to cover up imperfections are actually what cause more imperfections (that we weren't born with). ALSO...you can make a natural makeup/coverup...without extra waste, and I don't mean the cocoa powder.
Kenza Bhugeloo re-read your own comment. Maybe it is because you are so reliant on makeup you are not allowing your skin to breath and it doesn't seem like you are treating the main cause of the acne. Maybe try doing something different (i.e., not wearing makeup daily, maybe start on weekends when you are home and use aloe Vera gel, honey masks, etc for treatment) and see how that works for you - you never know!
I've actually tried one!! It's great but I had problems with my gums so it wasn't for me. But I do encourage people to try! It's great that there is a Zero Waste alternative for everyone. :)
I have a lot of questions but, do you use toilet paper? And where do you buy pasta, oil, detergent, makeup, eggs without waste? I'm from arts, using pens is not create waste when it finishes? I'm confuse, I want to live that way but I see impossible.
you can just wash it with sprinklers or if you have shower that didn't attached to the wall, use that to spray while cleaning it with your hand. then dry it with towel. we did that mostly in southeastasia (in indo, malaysia, mid-east etc we usually have sprinkler next to our toilet.)
if you're really into pasta (like me lol) you can always make it yourself. plus you might not use all the ingredients for the pasta so you can keep it for something else! :D
If you are like me and can't find these things unpackaged, I try to find inventive and sustainable ways to reuse the packaging, like I'll keep leftover pasta and coffee jars and use them to store cotton pads, homemade hair masks, as drinking glasses, etc. Mechanical pencils are good because all you need are refills. You can also buy wooden pencils with seeds in them, so when they finish you simply put them in a plant pot with soil and water and they grow! I re-use water bottles too - everything helps, don't give up!
What oil do you use as a face moisturizer? In the past I used sunflower seed oil, but switched to grape seed recently. Wondering if there's anything better out there. Also, I love this video!
I haven't been able to be zero waste, but I have started making little changes! Since I eat peanut butter a lot, I've bought my own mason jar and I go to my food co-op and scoop it out of the bulk container. As well as being better with using my reusable bags on shopping trips! Not much but it does all add up!
Hey Rogue ! I love your routine, I was inspired by your bathing. Typically Ill take a 30-45 minute showers to shave, clean and wash my hair but now that I've been bathing I've been saving so much water ! And starting my days more relaxed(: The only problem is I cant help but feel there is a more efficient way for me to bath, could you make a video focusing on your zero-waste cleansing routine ? Like how you clean, shave, wash/condition your hair in the bathtub ?
I would buy a shampoo bar, but the only place that sells them is Lush, and I need ag least like 10 pumps of shampoo to throughly wash my hair because that's how thick it is. Buying a shampoo bar would drain my money 😭😭😭
+Bllushing Hey! I have hugely thick hair too, and I promise you, shampoo bars froth and provide more than any bottle shampoo. Sometimes too much!!! It may just be the perfect thing for you. Give it a go! 😉✌🏻
bllushing I just buy my shampoo in bulk, the same way I buy all my soap products (laundry, dish, etc) :) I bring a 4 liter bottle and get it filled up when its empty. I transfer some of it in a smaller bottle and keep that in the shower :) it creates a lot less of plastic waste than buying a new bottle every month! That works well for me anyways
I love this way of living! I'm been trying to do more sustainable actions but it's so hard with my family ): they just don't understand nor really care about being for environmentally friendly
Your channel is extremely fun, approachable, inspiring and helpful. I think you can change the world in a major way. Do you guys do public speaking/seminars? Anyways- obsessed with your channel. Can't wait for more :D
What an awesome video! I'm not zero waste but you guys make it seem so easy. I'll definitely try to incorporate some of the shower/bath products you guys mentioned? Btw, what brand was the razor and how often do u replace the blade?
Thanks Christina!! Such a sweet comment! I actually have a guide I made of brands I use: including the razor! Here: www.josephinevermilye.com/zero-waste-brand-guide
I wish I could live this sort of lifestyle, but whenever I try to cut things out of my routines or even just change skincare up, I discover an allergy or intense reaction. I try to just re-purpose containers when I can, and hold onto things FOREVER.
This video really opened my eyes. I moved out and am living on my own for the first time and (now that I'm the only one taking out the trash) realized how much trash I produce. I fill up a 30L bin nearly every week! Although I'll never be as good as you are, how did you start? And thoughts on waste you can recycle?
Lush ist in Deutschland in fast allen größeren Städten zu finden. In Köln, München, Berlin etc.
they look so calm and chill and perfect it's actually annoying
in a good kind of way
+Kira Ingrid ikr XD
Kira Ingrid
You realize this was reenacted, right?
Agreed
Thank you for the shampoo bar tutorial! No one else has done that in their video. I recently switched and was able to do so thanks to the demo you guys posted!
Hey Steph! So glad our demo helped. Really encouraging to hear! Thanks for letting us know, too! :)
Oh wow! You actually read the comment! Awesome! Thank you again! :D
hardcore tshirt with a sweet loving voice. lol love it
That's right! Sweet n' loving round the clock! 😘 (Except for when I'm singing along to Iron Maiden 😉)
What a great video! Thanks for showing us how you both wake up. It's inspiring viewers to embrace a more waste free lifestyle. Please consider making more of these.
That skirt is just gorgeous😍
Awh! Thanks Eline! 😘
Oew, you can actually also wash and scrum your face with oatmeal. Works great against pimples. Just put a bit of oatmeal with a bit of water and scrum your face with it. The only problem is that your sink will be a mess. Better to use in the shower or in the bath.
Awesome tip! Thanks!
madamelicorne yess i did this too! usually i add sugar for scrubbing. i use it once every week and it works like magic and from that point on i dont want to buy those tissue-ish face masks ever again
madamelicorne sea salt is also a natural exfoliant! It's does the same thing as micro beads but much better for the earth!
I really hope you aren't rinsing oats down the sink or tub. The traps will definitely catch them, so you'll have to remove the debris from it yourself often. If not, the water won't stay in the trap and you'll have deadly odors in your place.

Great topic. I never knew shampoo and conditioner bars even existed, I'm looking forward to trying those out. Ive been transitioning to a more natural and waste free existence for about 5 years now and I'm still learning new stuff all the time. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
I love how you split these tips in into two categories/two people. Helpful tips!
Haha thank you!!! ☺️
Thank you guys for your efforts to keep our planet free of waste. You're an inspiration to me!!
where. where do i find a bamboo silk long black skirt!?
Mia I'd like to know too! it's sooo pretty
I want to know too !
Mia I want one too
Me to, where did u get it?
me too
My dad always makes coffee in the morning and I sometimes use the coffee grains to scrub my face. It's way better than the micro beads
Amen. ☝🏼
I want to cry...never thought the day would come! you are so young...I am wishing future generations will be inspired...God bless ❤
+Miry Reina Glad we're doing you proud! ☺️🌍💪🏼❤️
Everything that is organic is prepacked in our stores :/
Same! All non-organic stuff is usually not pre-packaged, yet the organic stuff is packaged in "durable" plastic, but honestly - why even package it?
+TheRisingIcarus So it doesn't get mixed up. It's actually for our safety so no one can sell us non-organic food to the price of organic one...
I understand that, but it's still a shame :(
Its the same here in SD CA!! I do get some organic bulk nuts but I am on a quest to find bulk non-packaged organic lentils and legumes!
Illusion do you have a Trader Joe's near you? cuz they have a lot of unpackaged food where you can bring your own bags :)
How cute was that video!? *-*
+belleohbelle (so cute) 😜
I love how they are two different people it's amazing
mornings are always a struggle in term time! love this, can't wait for some fashiony videos too!
Oh my god: agreed!! Haha: yes ma'am. On that too!! 😘
Love your Channel girls!! I'm the Environment Officer at my university and I'm planning on holding a workshop series next year about sustainable living, your videos have given me a lot of ideas and concepts to focus on, Thank you so much! ♡
this is the first video I watched from you two, but I already know, your are amazing 😎
Blushing. xx
Love your channel. Thank you for spreading the Zero Waste message in such an informative and compassionate manner. You two have inspired me to greatly reduce my waste production and to share the message with my family and friends. Keep up the amazing work! Our Earth needs people like you.
Thank you for such kind words and encouragement!! 💪🏼❤️♻️🌍🎉😘
The curling-your-eyelashes-instead-of-using-mascara trick doesn't really work if you have blonde/light eyelashes so they're invisible without mascara no matter how much you curl them :(
Aw no! Well you can look for all natural mascara and that is a great step forward too :)
That's true! Any suggestions? Preferably cruelty free

Thanks so much! was happy to see lots of drugstore price-level ones there too :D
Lush's mascara is great!

I love it :) I just started my zero waste journey, this video helps me to motivate myself!
So happy to hear that Vivien!!!
I love how happy you guys are, it just makes me smile 😁
I love your video! So great to see young people trying to make a difference in the world! So awesome! Great job!

Why have I watched this video so much already? I keep coming back to it
You're SO adorable omg I love your bubbly personality :) keep it up!
Really neat stuff! Makes me want to try living more waste free! Great tips and you two are adorable! xD So bubbly and genuine! Loved it, keep it up!
Such a cute video you guys!! Love your zero waste tips! This year I am making a huge effort to cut out plastic as much as possible, especially single use and disposable ones, and hopefully soon i'll be leading a fully zero waste life!
what she said about the skin and makeup part was so so unrealistic. not all of us have perfect skin, doing this would be so unrealistic for me

Really cool video! And great tips. I've heard about zero waste but never looked into how to do it. New sub. Thank you!!

I believe she said she made it herself (:
Excellent, informative, to the point, lovely video girls you are so professional and inspire us all! Thank you!
Such a great video ! :) You two complement one another so well ! :)
you should check out miswak sticks- theyre a traditional, all natural alternative for toothbrushes!
I've actually tried one!! It's great but I had problems with my gums so it wasn't for me. But I do encourage people to try! It's great that there is a Zero Waste alternative for everyone. :)
Yeah miswak always improves my dental hygeine! It even whitens really nicely
I loved the editing and transitions for this video. Great job!
I love your channel! Also, your dark walls are really cool.
These tips were super helpful and actually cool . I'm going to try some of them . Not promising I will commit but i will try !
LOVED this video!! You guys are just wonderful
This was such a cute video! I'm getting into zero waste living. I feel lazy about it but im going to take baby steps. New subscriber!:)
talking to us from the shower.. so cute
Oh where is that gorgeous skirt from?!
I have a lot of questions but, do you use toilet paper? And where do you buy pasta, oil, detergent, makeup, eggs without waste? I'm from arts, using pens is not create waste when it finishes? I'm confuse, I want to live that way but I see impossible.
You can start doing what you can :) No need to do it all at once in the beginning, just do what you feel like you can do and go from there.
Also u can use a bidet. But considering the extra water used im not sure which is worse for the earth
you can just wash it with sprinklers or if you have shower that didn't attached to the wall, use that to spray while cleaning it with your hand. then dry it with towel. we did that mostly in southeastasia (in indo, malaysia, mid-east etc we usually have sprinkler next to our toilet.)

Lovely lovely lovely and inspiring! Keep up girls! :D
Just found your channel and I'm in love ! You two are so great

For people who do need exfoliaters, you can buy ones with organic exfoliants. (I use one with dried apricot)
you guys are so cute! loved the ending.
this was educational and IRON MAIDEN IS AWESOME! if you found that shirt at a thrift store you are so LUCKY! I love thrift stores :)
Saw them live this summer rocked my world!! 🌎

Awh, this was so cute! Good job girls!
I love these girls!
We love you!!!
what a lovely video! Nice work!
I told someone else in another video/another you tuber, that they/you can make your own natural shampoos, with natural ingredients. 😊
bllushing I just buy my shampoo in bulk, the same way I buy all my soap products (laundry, dish, etc) :) I bring a 4 liter bottle and get it filled up when its empty. They seem to be expensive at first but you can use them for ages. I use mine every second day and it lasts 0.5-1 year
i love this message so much, ima defiinitley try more of this
Hey loved the video! I was just wondering where you bought the stainless steel razor?
Hey Raquel!! I have a ZW brand guide of brands I use, including the razor! Here you go: www.josephinevermilye.com/zero-waste-brand-guide xxx
Hey! :) Thank you!!!
I just joined this channel and I love it.

Your channel is extremely fun, approachable, inspiring and helpful. I think you can change the world in a major way. Do you guys do public speaking/seminars? Anyways- obsessed with your channel. Can't wait for more :D
I love how this shows two different point of views
What an awesome video! I'm not zero waste but you guys make it seem so easy. I'll definitely try to incorporate some of the shower/bath products you guys mentioned? Btw, what brand was the razor and how often do u replace the blade?
Thanks Christina!! Such a sweet comment! I actually have a guide I made of brands I use: including the razor! Here: www.josephinevermilye.com/zero-waste-brand-guide
I love this vid. I just found you guys and even I think Lush isn't the best option you got a new subscriber. Keep up the good work!
You both are so awesome. I loved this video. It was informative and fun, keep it up!
Thanks Earthly Asha! Glad it was helpful!!
Looooooooooove the format!! This video prompted me to subscribe
This was a very cute video, thanks!
I wish I could live this sort of lifestyle, but whenever I try to cut things out of my routines or even just change skincare up, I discover an allergy or intense reaction. I try to just re-purpose containers when I can, and hold onto things FOREVER.
you guys are awesome :) thanks for the tips
I think that the oil as substitute for face cream is amazing and I do that too but I wear glasses and it tends to make them slip.
You two are so lovely, wish we were in the same country as I'd feel we'd get along really well x
Where's the skirt from?? It's absolutely gorgeous!
You guys are so cute! Great editing and I like that this was to the point and informative :)
This video really opened my eyes. I moved out and am living on my own for the first time and (now that I'm the only one taking out the trash) realized how much trash I produce. I fill up a 30L bin nearly every week! Although I'll never be as good as you are, how did you start? And thoughts on waste you can recycle?
this was so peaceful and inspiring 🙂
Wow this was really well done! So many great tips!!
I've never used coco powder as a blush :O need to try it :D
This is actually so interesting never heard of waste free. Gunna give it a shot
How do you prevent the bananas from going brown if you cut them the night before?
Fridge 😊👍🏻
more no waste videos please! they are so interesting to watch
