Wow! Always wondered what actually was causing the noise with a "bad rod bearing." Thanks for the explanation!
Glad I could help with that
@@FalconsGarage would a bad rod bearing noise get louder as you increased rpms, get quieter or stay the same noise level?
@@ericg4915 Should get louder mine does.
@@scam I've come to the conclusion I got a lifter tick and that's what second opinion mechanic told me. Noise stayed the same or went away all together with rpm increase
Is it salvageable?
Thanks brother this makes sense. I appreciate your expertise on this matter.
Great vid bro that one seems to be gone and most likely has damaged crank too!
It can be fixed don't use any sand paper just cleaning using Emery cloth only then put new one in tork it to spec and don't keep rotate the crank after u install the new one put it all back together and u be good another 90k
and what size did you installed ? standard or 0.002" undersize ?
That’s exactly what I’m hearing on my car 🥲do you change that out or just get a new engine?
Depends how bad ur engine is
If you're driving something like a Renault Sandero sell the whole car💀
After this video of you showing Rod bearing can u replace new one and then clean the journal ? Or it’s more to it ?
Dealing with this problem right now and dont know where that knocking is coming from in the process of dropping the oil pan. I watched videos on how them botls break easy for the lower and inake I guess the best way is to shock em direct with hammer to the bolt right after you crack the bolt free dont take it off yet shock it first with several wacks of a heavy hammer.
Well, for 30 seconds of info, damn this is helpful. Watched a ten minute video that described it very well, but this also shows me exactly what I'm looking for. Sweet.
...
Well, not sweet, because there's a reason I'm looking right? Lol. But great video.
Can the big rod end have standard bearing in it an the cap end have a oversized bearing ?
Had low oil pressure code Vanos inlet camshaft jammed sound like baseball bat hitting sum on the bottom N55 2011 335i, it was a small noise at first then got an oil change it got super loud but driving perfect on the highway, I’m lost could it be a rod or lifter spark plug or injector? Help!😅
I have this issue with my 88 accord :(
I have a 4 cylinder an trying to repair it with crankshaft still in the car , I've changed the rest came out great just that 1 rod end
Thank you!!!
Good video
Can u do my infinity q50 2017
Great tip!!❤
Glad it was helpful!
Should you change all the bearings or just the damage one?
Yes. Or at the very least check them all
@@FalconsGarage thanks ...
Is this the infamous "knocking"
Can the bearing be done alone
My 98 accord makes the noise..but as soon as I put the gear in and start running it it goes away and the engine sounds smooth...why is that?
weird bearing noise will usually get loader as the engine revs up or underload .. so this might not be your issue
@@FalconsGarage but it sound right were the video shows..the engine is really smooth no shake ..what could it be
I have a little Nissan fronteir 2.7 4c and it has this exact noise but it’s faint should I be worried?
I would have it checked .. those are also known for having valve slap noise
What you called part?
Does the engine have to be rebuilt after that?
Do a engine compression test as long as the top heads are healthy you do not need to rebuild the engine or replace it with a used engine
What happens when you change rod bearings and works bad ass for two or three days then you start hearin it again ?
That exactly what my engine is doing thanks a whole lot
Is it still making the sound? How many miles have you put on it since it started?
I have a 2015 kia sorento and hw much will cost me to fix the rod bearing?
Hope he answers I have one also but not sure I hear this sound or have the issue, but would like the answer incase it happens I know what I should do ahead of time.
Nothing cause Kia/Hyundai has recalls on the engine for this very reason just take your call in and let them know you may need a engine replacement.
Im still learning about cars. Thisbsi the crankshaft and i assume the pistons are facing downwards? So how do you fix this issue? A new rod/pisoton?
Engine is toast once it does that
@@kacper.6537Not really all depends on what the problem is long as nothing broke inside the block scratching it
Crankshaft was still good?
I have almost the same sound when i start the engine but is coming afte almost a mnt and more and if the rpma is 1.000 you don’t listen nothing
Hello brother, how to fix that noises
I replaced the engine
The crank rod journal is damaged too.
How do you know? I'm getting ready to replace my rods and wondering what else I should check
Hello Pro In VietNam almost car Brand still got same issue as you shared.
So can you tell me what's root cause lead to issue like this
could be MANY things .. cannot pin point .. really
So what are you going to do?
Where is your shop's location
texas
How can u fix it ?
How much you charge for this repair
Just put some gear oil (85w-140) in there and it will go away 😉
This makes sense
I need mine done
So if that makes noise can the main bearing also be damaged? The bearing that holds the crankshaft
the oil is usually pushed out from the main journals to the rod journals, and then back into the oilpan and trough the oil filter. So your mains could survive this. But you still wanna do an engine rebuild straight away.
you’re the best bro I was wondering. So is it an easy fix. Should I just learn to rebuild myself or sell the car cause those are my only options.
its about a 7 or a 8 out of 10 in a difficulty level .. it also depends on what size engine you have ..
my car is doing that, thanks for the info
No problem 👍
@MrCamus83
Did you get it fixed? If so, how much was it in usd?
I have a Chrysler 200 doing the same year 2013@@FalconsGarage
@@kadeejahughespatterson738I have a Chrysler Sebring 2010 with the same problem smh
Ever hear of someone cleaning it up with 320 emery cloth an going 1 size over an fixing it since it's just 1 rod bearing ? All the rest are good an went back with standard for the rest an new oil pump .
You mean undersize
Where can you hear the noise coming from is bottom end or top of the engine
bottom
Thx for your reply one more question if you but ur hand on the dipstick tube and feel it taping can it be rod gone is there other way to get in contact with you
Hi I have a loudly knock noise and found that is coming after oil heating, when car is stopped at low rev. When throttling the engine shake a little after it 2000rpm noise and shake disappear. Rod/spun bearing?
could it be a lifter noise?
@@FalconsGarage Thanks for your reply, I checked valve lifter noise which is like "Tic Tic Tic", noise on my engine is like hitting with hammer.
Maybe engine mount
I have same problem 1jzgte engine
You found the problem? What I have right now
Is that what people refer to as a spun bearing?
This is what happens after the bearing spun and it’s no longer lubricating
Mines ticks and stops acter it warms up is this a common symptom?
Sounds like an exhaust leak
How do you go about fixing it?
most of the time engine overhaul or bearing replacement .. not an easy job
Does this mean I have to replace my engine and pay for a new one or can I fix the bearing alone without replacing engine
You can fix it but you will need to replaced the whole Rod bearings and it will cause u a alot of monry
@@idiomatic_2352can you give us an estimated cost of how much it would be?
@@alexvirto9559 if youre working it by yourself youre looking around 4 grand but if you ask a mechanic to do it to you. You might as well do a whole change of the engine that would be 10-12 grand depends on what state
@@alexvirto9559it depends who you go to another way you would know if u drop the oil pan in do what he just did
So how do you fix it..every morning I hear it on the start up then it quiets down a lil...what I need to replace it?
rod knock dont go away once the engine heats up ..sounds like you have timing chain issues ..
That's probably your timing chain
Man my ss just started doing this 😢
That mean your SS is boosting too hard you got 4000 horsepower what you think's going to happen
Or he’s got an oiling issue
whatto do irf rpd.bearing msking noise
replace it?
How to fix this problem ? Should we tighten the rod bearing or replace it?
if it was torques correctly and its still lose you can try getting a bigger size bearing as long as its with in specs ..
I like that one long time ago I went underneath and I thought the bolts was loose. Lol.!!!
Hey my geo metro knocks but only sometimes, and sometimes not even at all, what the issue? Maybe a fuel mixture problem?
Probably, as a rod knock would never go away it is permanent damage to your engine.
@@scam engine blew since then lol, rebuilding another one and the one in it
@@Tommysmess mine is about to blow it's went 8000 miles with rod knock it's really really loud now
Can you continue to drive the car like this?
dont recommend it
Do you rebuild 392 hemi’s? Having the same problem
ive done it in the past .. but honestly probably more cost efficient to just replace it when you include parts etc
@@FalconsGarage thanks bro
@@FalconsGarage Hey bro, I was wondering, if $12,000 enough to forge an engine? I been wanting to and I figured since it's down I could go back in that direction if I can get it done under the same price.
great video...just for curiosity...is that repairable?
Yes, it is .. but the question would be if its cost effective!
would need to see the damage of the crank shaft and new thinker bearings if not too damaged
Can the bearing be fix
Yes. Depending if you going the issue early enough.
What's the process of fixing it and are you able to diy
ill make a video if I ever get one to work on
Ya it’s not difficult you can drop the oil pan in check aswell
Does this sound only come from acceleration
its all the time but it get louder under acceleration
Right now i'm having a problem with a noise only coming when giving gas on drive, when on park no sound, Mechanics saying i have to change head and block😓
@@FalconsGarage what if you hear a knock only under acceleration?
We call it, a "Rod Knock". Cause when it is running you hear, "Knock", "knock", "knock".. It is a sign that the connecting rod bearing has been damaged/destroyed, there for the engine needs to be rebuilt/ replaced....
Replace a entire engine over a bearing. Yeah ok lol.
@@mysterycomment1553 , yeah, that is how it is done. Once that 1 bearing goes, every other bearing is effected as well. You have engine parts running at HIGH RPM, the bearing noise is what is called a rod knock. Cause the bearing is worn enough to such a point, the connecting rod is beating against the crank at RPM. Take a hammer and beat it against a piece of metal as fast and hard as you can, the metal will deformed. The worn pieces that have been BASHED in to metal flakes move through the oil system. Which.....Privides....MORE grit to other engine parts. Which they too, began to also go bad. So now parts are effected to where ever the oil goes..
How did you fix it ???
replaced the engine .. was cheaper that way
@@FalconsGarage that’s what I’m finna do I have a 2012 dodge Challenger
@@93baby yeah. While it is fixable if you can find a used engine with lower mileage is probably better
@@FalconsGarage I’m still looking for one 😞
@@FalconsGarage where to buy used engine.....?
Why don't they remove that to prevent rod bearing noise
Because that’s what holding the rod
About how much is this fix
depends on your car and your city
This is an expensive fix my car is worth £3000 and my mechanic says it's not worth repairing my engine and to not bother bringing it to him lol
My k motor rn lmfao
You want some movement like that in the engine for less friction for more power. I'm joking this is something you never want to hear in your car😬
My corolla has that issue, I'm too cheap to buy a new car hahaha I just hope I don't have to empty my wallet on repairs.
My corolla has 573k miles on it. I started hearing this noise on the way home from a long trip. As soon as I got it home I bought some new bearings. Replaced them and still running fine 40k miles later. 1999 corolla with the 5 speed manual trans.
