    Woolie had described the drive gauge as kinda a guard and stun meter that also doubles as a resource and thought that was a pretty apt description of it. But I definitely like the separation of super meter and like a special action meter. Being able to do all those special actions while still having your super on deck if you use them sounds pretty fun. I like guilty gear a lot and know its part of its high level play but having all your other actions tied to the same meter and having to manage that can be a little hard to do sometimes. Its probably why I prefer BB having your ability to barrier be its own gauge.

    • @zanpakutoman4225

      I kind of like it. MK11 did something similar with X-rays so people would actually use them competitively. Although, that ended up more like a comeback mechanic, with the way they implemented it. However, I personally would've prefered EX moves (I guess OD moves in SF6) being tied to the super meter. Maybe that's just because that's what's familiar to me, but having them share the same bar as the new strong mechanics still seems a little dense. I guess you have access to EX early on now, but the Drive meter goes down for so many actions whether you're being offensive or defensive.

    • @DemonBlanka
      @DemonBlanka 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Frankly I dont know why you would want LESS decision making with your meter, especially if it's an offensive resource. One of the biggest problems of ultras is they had no way to spend them outside of the ultra and Vtrigger had a pretty big issue for a long time where the trigger was so much better than the vast majority of reversals, even in a defensive capcity. Trigger to keep yourself safe and continue pressure while retaining your comeback factor far outweighs white damage and a reset to neutral. Granblue's also got this problem, the decision making in all these situations is incredibly boring and the times you'll use your resource is very static.
      SF6's system seems to be taking the worst of both worlds by overloading the SHIT out of one resource and then making the other resource only have one use. It's offset a bit by multiple supers and it seems like everyone has an install but I am very unsure of this decision. I'm also very worried about the costs of drive actions, 1 bar for impact seems kinda nuts if EX costs 2 and half the bar for a ghetto FADC seems a bit bad when burnout seems so punishing. Suppose we can't say for sure till it's out.

    One of the things that people aren't focusing on is that you _gain Drive Gauge offensively, even if you're gassed out._ This game is already heavily offense-based. Even when you lack the major Drive Gauge tools, Capcom still wants you to risk making decisions in order to get it back, as going on the offense speeds Gauge recovery by some pretty significant amounts as long as you maintain offense. It's going to be extremely exciting to see how this plays out, especially in tournament.
    Man, that roster leak has been the hugest boon for Capcom. I want to see so many of those characters _so bad._

      What if the options they do have are the best options? I definitely think Sajam is making a strawman and I haven't once heard anyone say they're afraid to lose to "modern controls" and I'd say it's actually probably the opposite. What good is it to win against someone using "modern controls" but since everyone is making this point I guess I'll think about it.
      So, what if the options they are given are the best ones, and most people who use traditional controls don't even use them because they're useless? Then you have someone who has all the best options of the fighter but with easier controls. And I'd confidently say I'd beat 7 out of 10 people in almost any fighting game that exists but merely limiting a character doesn't make them inherently worse. The easy controls, however, do make them inherently better.
      I'm just sayin', if we think about it then it's not too unreasonable to think they might have a competitive advantage.

      Modern are worse : they literaly only have 6 normals instead of 12 + (not counting command normals. They lose half of they toolset, they lose all strength variations on their specials (only one strength per special). Ryu can't even use stand lk, nor crounching hp.
      They also lose 10% damage.

    • @dallashill5771
      @dallashill5771 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOxiongarden what if you could read? Well, you can't apparently...
      I'm only making this argument because you guys invented this strawman of people being against modern controls because they're afraid of losing to them.
      Also, the only true downside that might make a point against my devil's advocate argument is the 10% damage reduction.
      So, what if you lose half your normals, most professional SFV players don't use the entire kit as it is. You usually find what's optimal and stick to that.
      I don't care that the reduction is significant if the only moves they're left with are the only ones that are good. Or even just good enough.
      You guys went for this low-hanging fruit, though, because your best argument is simply to try and shame people. Pathetic. Oh. And because you got Sajam's nuts on your chin.

      But it's all fake. It bolsters numbers without actually creating a bigger player base. You can't have people who use "modern controls" compete or play against those who don't. You're playing two completely different games at that point.
      Also, if simple quarter circles are too much for you, well, maybe fighting games just aren't for you.
      They've always been inclusive of people who can't do them, as well, very few fighting games do you NEED to play like that. You could focus on learning the defensive mechanics of a game and block everything thrown out you while you slowly chip away with very easy, simple combos, or even just poke 'em to death.
      The answer isn't creating an entirely separate game for new players, it's allowing them to engage in meaningful combat within the same system, without taking anything away from those who actually enjoy fighting games.

    • @LiquidChamploo
      @LiquidChamploo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@dallashill5771 Your missing the point. People who will use the modern controls are still like “potential buyers” the hopes are for them to want to expand and learn the game traditionally (aka have full character control).
      And it’s not “taking anything away” from anybody, if you struggle against an opponent using modern controls than thats a shame considering your losing to an opponent clearly less experienced than yourself.
      For years fighting games have relied on people learning tradition defense/neutral/pokes/framedata.. That’s a tedious learning curve for beginners and it’s a GRIND. This is a cool way for them to hopefully want to take that next step.
      If anyone out there is silly enough attempt real competition with an already limited tool kit then more power to them.
      I honestly feel like it’s the older players insecurities about losing to someone playing with training wheels on lol

      @@LiquidChamploo that's low hanging-fruit and you should think for yourself.
      Where did I or anybody say anything about losing? No one cares. Actually, I'd be more worried about winning. It would be like someone charging you with a knife so you shoot them. Sure, you won, but what satisfaction could be had?
      Again, win, lose, I'm pretty sure no one actually cares.
      I'm a musician, been playing for eighteen years now, and I've made a living teaching guitar; they make these gadgets that fret the thing for you, and you just have to hit a button then strum.
      "Modern controls" are much the same as that contraption. I've seen plenty of people pick it up and toy around with it but none of them went on to become lifelong musicians. That shortcut to the end just makes them lose interest faster than if they'd actually tried to learn. The player can tell its a gimmick and gets zero satisfaction from the experience.
      I'm sure this will sell more games but you're not creating Fighting game players with these "modern controls".
      Every game since the beginning of time has expected something from its players: chess, football, pong, and on and on and on ad infinitum. There's nothing wrong with that. You're still capable of playing the game at whatever level, you can learn every gambit, every piece, or you can just move the pieces about the board. You can learn that a nickel will probably defend against a pass better than a dime or you can just hit the guy in front of you.
      Fighting games are the same. You can turn 'em on, mash some buttons, and be done. Or you can every piece of frame data, every perfectly optimized combo, or be anywhere along that spectrum.
      You can already do this. Without any 'modern controls'. Without either fracturing the game in half. Without taking away from every win someone might have.
      Can't do fireballs? Great! You don't need to. Block, learn to read the opponent, and just light jab 'em to death. If you don't want to learn then there's plenty of other ways to play the game.
      Also, if you just don't want to learn... are fighting games really for you? It's okay that not everyone plays them and to the same extent. They're niche and definitely always will be.

    Oh yeah, you can't perfect parry meaties apparently. That means meaties are still strong because if they parry, drive reversal or drive impact they're getting thrown. They kinda have to take it unless they OD.
    All the hard knockdowns seem super short to me. Feels like the devs don't want the game to have too much oki.
    edit: Counter hit and Punish hard knockdowns seem to last long enough that you can get a safe jump or ambiguous cross up out of them. But if you combo into sweep or land a random sweep they get up almost immediately.

  • @matrix3509
    @matrix3509 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I'm not a Street Fighter expert or anything, but I don't really understand why people think the parry will make the fireball useless. Even Daigo was saying this and I don't really get it. Even in Third Strike, shotos used their fireball against every character except maybe Yun. The only thing that really goes away are the fireball wars like with SFIV. Yes, throwing fireballs predictably will give your opponent meter for free, but that just means you have to be less predictable.

    • @AIKnowYou
      @AIKnowYou 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ... but that's what they mean. Fireballs will no longer act as long range pokes or walls, something that's been Street Fighter tradition since forever. Personally I don't mind the change, but it's a pretty big one to anyone who understands the fundamentals. Now fireballs just have very few benefits. Either way, it's a fresh direction, and I guarantee there's a pro out there who will figure out the best way to use fireballs and amaze us.

    • @Likuzaim
      @Likuzaim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AIKnowYou It's early, but fireballs seem faster than they've ever been. Chun-Li's Kikoken comes out and travels faster than Ryu's Hadokens in V. If you press any button that isn't parry, you're probably eating a fireball. Add in the ability to parry their jump ins, and projectiles might still have a strong use as zone control.

    • @TheOxiongarden
      @TheOxiongarden 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you play third strike at a good level ? Because it's not about being predictable, fireballs are literaly unusable from distance (which is their purpose). Parry has 1 frame startup, is active for 8 frames and gives opponent super which is so important in this game.
      So predictable or not, any decent player REACTS to them. Therefore, they're useless
