    Making oils101, oil is heated to just simmer then turn off immediately and let herbs infuse (hence ‘infused oil’) until cool and then filter and decant. A tasty recipe is 1 tsp dried rosemary, oregano, basil, 1 tsp garlic and a pinch of chilli flakes❤️✨

    My mum makes spicy olive oil (its perfect to put on pizza). She puts some chili pepper, garlic, black pepper... in a bottle, fills it with the oil and lets it sit for some days/weeks. It's really easy, you just need a bottle with a cap that doesnt let the herbs out and you can put anything you feel like or have around!

      and that is an actual way to make olive oil with addings. The way Kelsey did it is actually wrong, bc you shouldn't apply heat to the olive oil if you're not cooking with it at the moment. Cold infusion has way better taste and also is way healthier. Your mum nailed it :)

  • @Laura-wr9ht
    @Laura-wr9ht 3 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    Just to clarify -- the bacteria which causes botulism is primarily found in soil. The risk of using fresh herbs/garlic is that they can be contaminated with spores which then thrive because of the water released in the oil. So use caution when preparing something intended to be stored for a while with fresh herbs and especially garlic.

    Loved everything! Great ideas! Small idea, for the oils you can add a sprig of Herb, you’re using, eg. Rosemary, basil, garlic glove, coloured peppers… Advice, after sterilization of the jars put them in a hot oven to dry out, 250. By blow drying you contaminated the jars. Enjoy you both! You could pair one olive with a balsamic vinegar that’s what I have done. I also have made my own vinegars too.

    Guys I’m Italian, and we use olive oil basically in everything. But one thing I know is that you don’t have to use oil after it is cooked (or if it reaches boiling temperatures) because it can be very toxic! Check with the one you used! (You still can do infused oil, you can add your herbs and let it rest for a couple of weeks at room temperature)

    Love your videos! But be careful with the olive oil, I'm Italian and we often make "olio aromatizzato", like basil oil, garlic oil or pepper oil. However you shouldn't cook the oil unless you use it straight away, because cooked oil is bad for your health, we call it "olio esausto" that literally means "tired oil", we usually dispose of it as special waste (it's illegal to pour it down the sink or throw it in the regular garbage etc.) . You just need to put your dried herbs in the oil and the trick is done, you can use fresh herbs but it's a little bit trickier because you have to let them dry our for some days usually in a place that is well ventilated and dark. I wouldn't try it with fresh herbs anyways, it really needs to be done properly. Anyway, other than that loved the coasters and I just adore your office!

    In college (in the industrial design department) for warming up clay, we would stick it in a sealable bag and place inside a crockpot with warm water. That way you could spend your time and strength sculpting instead of warming the clay. Just be sure to have a separate crockpot so you don't get clay in your cooking!

    also, oil preserves things great. it probably won't go bad ever. side note, from a spanish extra virgin olive oil only consumer (as every mediterranean), here oil is usually infused cold, just by letting it stay day after day. we would use big rosemary or thyme branches along with whole garlic cloves that will stay in the bottle the whole time, oil bottles usually have a dispenser that won't let these come out. so yeah, it is that easy. I hope it helps! 💖

    the paint palette could also be a beautiful jewellery dish ! and it would probably get more use as a little dish too rather than a paint palette x

    You can use fresh garlic since it has purely oil and so little water. And it’s anti fungal and anti bacterial as well so it won’t spoil.
