This was indeed from Legend 1997 - SU-METAL's 16th birthday celebration, ending with BABYMETAL DEATH (statue breaking in the end) which You have already saw, I think.
This was Virgin Mary statue but with Suzuka's face, there was no straight religious references or parodies.
You were pretty close with the pronounciation of the title, if You want to get it right listen to SU at 9:51. This song was from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, debuted in 1997.
Yui and Moa have solo covers of the songs from 1999 ("Love Machine" and "Chocolate Love" I believe), Suzuka has also "White Love" cover.
Thx for the reaction Bros :) BABYMETAL 🤘🦊🤘

There is some reference. You see it in the kamishibai :
"The Second Impact. It was in the winter of 1997.
It was the birth of a new warrior who transcends the law of nature, "SU-METAL".
Charged with the mission of the Metal Resistance, in exchange for her own life,
she waged a battle in the legendary "special night of fifteen".
Executing the Metal Resistance in many music festivals in 2013,
SU-METAL made the legends one after another.
Before the birth of a new goddess, she returned beside the holy mother.
      The holy mother said,
"A soul is repeated. Return to me, tracing your memory..."

  • @Zedem0n
    @Zedem0n 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Ok Smokey I'll save you the trouble : the beginning felt familiar because that's the intro song for the Moa-only and Yui-only songs you did a while back. And yeah, you did react to them alone. It was Chokotto Love and Love Machine and both these songs were preceded by this little musical introduction just like for Su.
When you don't know how to pronounce words, try to listen for them when they sing it. Su said Tamashii no Rufuran quite a few times during the song.
Legend 1997 was a concert held in late 2013 for Su's 16th Birthday and it's indeed based on Su's birthday. The statue has likely many different meanings. It looks like the Virgin Mary but with an Asian flair. Some people have commented that it looked a bit like Su... Anyway, most people agree that the statue represents Su's idol roots and her breaking from this path to become a Metal Queen/Metal Goddess. The statue also breaks at the end of the concert and an additional meaning to this is a nod to Metallica's statue of Liberty breaking down during their And Justice for All tour.
You'll need to remember these because Hollywood seems to have the worst memory of you two lol. :D

I know other fans have a different view, but for me this is the only cover version they ever did that's up to par with BABYMETAL songs. And the crowd is awesome, especially considering that most of them probably heard it for the first time as well. Some of us had the discussion about the statue in the comments of another reaction video. I was one of those who doubted that it's Mary, but I was reminded that the intro song to this show was "Avemarie" and had the girls interacting with the statue, so I guess that doesn't leave much doubt. Some also see Su's features in her face, butI don't see it.
Japan is a bit strange when it comes to religion. Many Japanese pray at both Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, while also having some Christian ceremonies like white weddings and Christmas. All while stating that they are not religious at all when you ask them. I think it's a feature of Japanese culture that they take cues from other cultures and incorporate them into their own, while taking care not to lose too much of the latter.

    • @rickwagner-
      @rickwagner- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't believe the statue is any one thing, but rather that it is representing many things at the same time.
There is a reference to "the holy mother" in the narration at the beginning of the show, but there are divine feminine aspects in many religions including Shinto and Buddhism.
The biggest surprise is that Koba didn't manage to work in a Star Wars reference this time. : )
Although this heavier version of 'Tamashii no Rufuran' would be new to everyone in the audience, I think the original version of this song was pretty well known.

Legend 1997 was one show, the show they made for Su's 16th birthday. Gimme Chocolate, Headbanger, Babymetal Death videos on reactions all come from here. There is a lot of videos from this show in TH-cam because for some reason they don't get blocked.
The song is a cover song from an anime opening I think, of Evangelion, Soul's Refrain. Evangelion is an anime from 1997 so that's the reason.
The statue is a pun to holy Mary, but it represents a metal warrior ancestor of Su in the Babymetal lore.
Babymetal started performing without a band and just the girls dancing, and they put those guys dressed in bone costumes (Babybones) in the back doing the air guitar to give ambience, but it's no real performers. Legend 1997 (2013) was the last show where they performed, the Kami Band was incorporating to Babymetal and they did the second half of the show live. But Tamashii no Rufuran was on the first half. So when you see this guys on bone costume in their older shows they are not playing real music.

Christianity isn't big in Japan, less than 1% is what I read somewhere. They know some Christmas. And they have different traditions for Christmas. This might seem odd, but the Christmas tradition in Japan is: KFC. From an article online: "Every Christmas season, an estimated 3.6 million Japanese families treat themselves to Kentucky Fried Chicken, in what has become a nationwide tradition"
This was a one-off show. A special occasion, birthday show. Yeah, Babymetal doesn't do such a special show every year. But the money in this case it was only 8000 fans. But as you mentioned this was sold as DVD/Blu-ray as well. Yes, it adds cost of recording/editing, etc. But pretty certain their are companies who do nothing else all day long every day.
And this song was a one-off performance: Just a metal cover because.. they can for a special occasion. And maybe because they didn't have enough songs of their own yet. The first album wasn't released yet.
Then deliver such a performance at just-turned-16 year old. Babymetal has a well trained audience to join in when they can. ;-)
The original is very good, but doesn't have as much energy as the metallic Su-metal version.
PS Sorry, Yuimetal coming back is very unlikely. Pretty certain the health problems she had made it so she could not return. Like the back problem some have suggested she had might return if she does full Babymetal tours.

Tamashii No Rufuran means Souls Refrain in Japanese. It is the title song to the anime Evangelion. Here is the original: th-cam.com/video/WZ08yvyCa84/w-d-xo.html
Legend 1997 was NOT a tour but rather a birthday concert for Su-Metal. That statue is supposed to be a nod to Metallica's Lady Justice. There is no religious inference intended. (Japanese have a tendency to use western imagery and symbols out of context. Japanglish, if you will). Japan has a 1% Christian population.
You have already done a Moa( Love Machine)and Yui(Chokotto Love) solo songs. There is one more song you need to do to complete the circle, White Love. th-cam.com/video/3xrszm-0oQQ/w-d-xo.html
This is the last Su solo cover for you to react to. Amuse, Babymetal's management company is one of the largest in Japan. They manage a LOT of artists and have a great team. They only do these large arena shows in Japan. They've only done 2 arena shows outside of Japan, Wembley arena in London and The Forum in LA. General admission tickets run about $50, give or take. VIP and Fan Club tickets run from $100 to $300 and are usually lottery tickets in Japan. No guarantee you'll get a ticket. They make most of their money from merch sales. Babymetal sells A LOT of DVDs, CDs, shirts, towels, and other various merch.

      > "It is the title song to the anime Evangelion."
Not quite right. The Theme song of the show ("Neon Genesis Evangelion") was "Zankoku na Tenshi no These" (cruel angel thesis): th-cam.com/video/nU21rCWkuJw/w-d-xo.html . "Tamashi no Rufuuran" was used for one of the NGE-movies ("Refrain of Evangelion").
However: It's one of the best anime shows of all time! But when you watch it I strongly recommend to watch episode 1 - 24, then skip the last two episodes (25 - 26), skip the first movie ("Refrain of Evangelion") since it's only a recapture of said episodes (but misses out so much stuff), and then watch the second movie ("End of Evangelion"). And WARNING: Only do this when you are old enough (16 at least) and not prone to depression! I'm not kidding!

Yui and Moa have both done Headbanger. The Legend M version is CrAzY! I've never seen the crowd more entranced in ANY bluray performance than when Moa took over the mic. Hard to find unless you own it

Pretty sure you reacted to Moa-only Sexe Machine and Yui-only Chokotto love 😁
There is still Moa solo on Headbanger left 😏
Btw this song is from the legendary anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion 😶
For religions, shintoism is the most practised one while it is not really a religion. Boudism is actually the most inherent religion in Japan, there there are christianity and islam.
That said, Japanese people usually "pray" (wish would be a more appropriate word) in shrines as well as temples, there are event sacred places which mix both. Beliefs in Japanese culture are really interesting and unique. They celebrate christian events like Christmas and Easter while not being aware these are religious. They would also wed in churches while not being christian because it looks gorgeous, you can find crucifix accessories worn by young people just because it is fashionable and so on.
Very refreshing and interesting way of thinking indeed.

    ta•ma•SHE no roo•FOO•ran - Original song, for comparison: [ th-cam.com/video/WZ08yvyCa84/w-d-xo.html ] (EN & RU captions)
    Blow-by-blow, in the moment:
04:00 - Yes you have. Yui did Chokotto Love solo. Moa did Love Machine solo. You have reacted to them both.
04:36 - Yui has not been replaced. Her "spot" has been filled by The Three Avengers (Momoko, Kano, and Riho) who do not sing.
05:36 - No, she's not. I am a devout Tomatohead and I am telling you, she's not coming back.
06:03 - The musical piece in the background is Elgar's - Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 (Land of Hope and Glory)
[ th-cam.com/video/Vvgl_2JRIUs/w-d-xo.html ] Parts of it are typically (since 1905) played at graduation ceremonies.
    12:35 - A pulse oximeter. Available at Amazon: [ www.amazon.com/pulse-oximeter/s?k=pulse+oximeter ] Under $25
14:39 - Approximately 1% of Japan's population is Christian. [ www.japan-guide.com/e/e2298.html ] But several Christian traditions are practiced as secular events. Christmas and St. Valentine's Day, and wedding rituals for example.
15:18 - Depending on the type of the performance (single small stage versus arena show), the costs vary WIDELY. As a guidepost, to get #BABYMETAL to appear at a corporate event in the US will set you back a MINIMUM of $200,000.00 USD if they are already in the country. International travel is extra.
15:45 - PUT THAT THING OUT!! (Switch to a vape.)
19:42 - MANAGEMENT SUCKS! (It's a thing that must be said.)
Well done, gentlemen. You actually answered a lot of your own questions. You're getting a little better at this BABYMETAL Monday thing. 😁 I hope I was able to answer a few of the more... esoteric questions you had.
    See you next Monday.
    * Please note: The Babybones (mime band) are on stage. The music track is prerecorded. No actual instruments are being played on stage.

Ok you two you have asked so many times this is what this show is about, copy and paste it for reference
    😜🤘
*BABYMETAL - LEGEND 1997 APOCALYPSE CONCERT* at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Japan.
This concert was on the 21/12/2013, the concert was named (Legend 1997) because that was the year when Suzuka Nakamoto the lead singer was born on the 20/12/1997, so the show is in some way (SU-METAL's 16th birthday party) how did you celebrate your 16th birthday? I cannot remember mine, SU is not going to foget her 16th birthday.
The whole show (Legend 1997) is all about BABYMETAL's final transition from being a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin and J-pop Idols in to an independent and a live performance metal band.
The show started with an opening performance with Yui and Moa carrying neck braces to the music of 'Ave Maria', this is telling you who the statue is of at the back of the stage 'Mary Nazareth' (Mary of Nazareth) this opening performance comes to a conclusion when Yui and Moa offer up the neck braces to the statue and descend below the stage, to be replaced bye SU waring a neck brace standing on a plinth that rises half way up the statue, Yui and Moa then reappear back on stage and they go into there first song of the show.
That song is a very techno dance remix of 'Headbanger' (Headbanger!! -Night of 15 mix-) but it was not remixed bye a fan Babymetal remixt it, if you ever watch it how you see it is how they performed it on stang, it will all so be very clear that they are lip-syncing and if you don't no anything about the world of pop ldols they nearly allwas lip-sync, now remember this concert is about there transition so this first song was entirely and unashamedly lip-synced to a backing track and they were not trying to hide it, I don't think that Yui or Moa ever tried to pretend they were singing they just smiled danced, and interacted with the fans even when they reappear back on stage at the start of this song the looks on there faces said "we are going to have fun with this", SU no the other hand loves to sing and the look on her face at the start of this song was more like "HO BOY lets get this over with", SU do's lip-sync with the mic but there are times were she moves the mic away and carries on singing and at one part the other dancers lift SU up arms outstretched mic in hand and you can hear her singing but SU's lips are sealed and the look on her face at this point is just saying "REALY", even the band that are on stage with them are fake thay are actors dressed skeleton outfits called (The Babybones) and are pretending to play there instruments.
So now you no about the first song what about the rest of the concert and no I not going through each song individually I will put a play list up of them for you, what I will say is that the techno dance remix of 'Headbanger' was the last time you would see SU-Metal, YuiMetal or MoaMetal lip-syncing, for the rest of this concert and every concert that they have done since the girls are singing LIVE, however the rest of this concert was done to backing tracks with The Babybones pretending to play, but the fans went hard at this concert and so did the girls it was one hell of a party that I would have loved to have bean at.
Hear is the play list for this concert.
    Legend "1997"
    Ave Maria (Intro)
    Headbanger!! -Night of 15 mix-
    Doki Doki Morning
    Iine!
Tamashii No Rufuran, Return To Myself ver. (Yoko Takahashi)
    Uki Uki Midnight
    Gimme Chocolate
    Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai
    Megitsune
    Ijime, Dame, Zettai
    *The Band*
    Babybones.
Now that may have bean the end of the concert but it was not the end of there transition, the show was about to begin the girls would come back out on stage for a five song encore but this time The Babybones were not with them, the band that came back out on stage with SU, Yui and Moa were THE KAMI BAND and they don't have to pretend to play there instruments, The Kami Band is made up from some of the vary best musicians that there are in the world today and they were about to rock this place to it's very foundations, the five songs they were to perform are these.
    -ENCORE-
    Onedari Daisakusen
Catch Me If You Can (Extended Intro)
    Head Bangya
    Akatsuki (Unfinished Version)
    Babymetal Death
    *The Band*
The Kami Band - Aoyama Hideki (Drums), BOH (Bass), Fujioka Mikio (Guitar), Leda Cygnus (Guitar).
So now what do we have a very hyped up crowd rocking hard the girls feeding off the crowds energy and going harder and now a live band that always rock hard and heavy, Babymetal's transition from pop Idol singers into a live performance heavymetal band was complete, I said before that this was one hell of a party for these last five songs HELL would think that it was being invaded.
There was one more thing to be done and it would involve the last song BABYMETAL DEATH, but that neads a description all of it's own so we will leave that for now.
JUST AS AN EXTRA FOR YOU.
This how ever would not be the last time that The Babybones would perform with the girls, Babymetal is not just a band they refer to it as The Babymetal Family and once you are a part of the family you will allways be a part of it and The Babybones had bean a big part of Babymetal and there evolution to were they are now, so as a farewell to the fans The Babybones were given one last tour to do with the girls it would consist of five concerts two out side of Japan and three in Japan.
    These are the concerts.
    DATE: EVENT: PLACE: BAND:
28/12/2013, Live In Singapore, Scape The Ground Theatre, Singapore, Babybones.
30/12/2013, Countdown Japan 13/14, Makuhari Messe Internacional Exhibition Hall, Chiba, Babybones.
18/01/2014 All Live Nippon 2014 (Vol.2) Yoyogi National Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan Babybones.
24/01/2014 Kinniku Shōjo Tai × Babymetal Tsutaya O-East, Tokyo, Japan Babybones.
02/02/2014 Babymetal x Chthonic ATT Shout Box, Taipei, Taiwan Babybones.
This was The Babybones last tour there was just one more thing to do, and that was to officially retire from stage and hand over to The Kami Band, this would be a performance of just one song *Ijime Dame Zettai* it means (No More, Bullying, Forever) a good song choice for this, and it would be the first and only time that The Girls, The Babybones and The Kami Band would be no stage performing together, after this performance the band with the girls has always bean The Kami Band and the performances have always bean live, that is what they wanted to be a Live Performance Band and they are, to listen to a Babymetal song is good, to watch a Babymetal music video is all so good, but to see Babyletal perform live that is somthing you just have to experience.
    Anyway this performance was at.
DATE: 06/02/2014 EVENT: Music Station Show PLACE: Makuhari Messe Event Hall, Chiba, Japan BAND: Babybones + Kami Band
KAMI BAND FORMATION: Hideki Aoyama (Drums), BOH (Bass), Takayoshi Ohmura (Guitars), Leda Cygnus (Guitars)

    About the Avengers:
KANO-METAL (Kano Fujihira, pronounced "Kah-Noh") - is from Sakura Gakuin, the idol group where BABYMETAL used to be a part of. She was the class president in 2019 (graduated this year) and was known for being one of the best dancers the group has ever produced. She can also sing well and is currently part of a group called "onefive".
MOMOKO-METAL (Momoko Okazaki, her first name roughly translates to "Little Peach" or "Peach Child") - is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin (2017). Again, another one of the best dancers they've ever had. She went abroad to study English, and fans of Sakura Gakuin are happy to see her back on stage. She has always dreamed of being a backup dancer for a popular music group, and she's definitely gotten her wish.
RIHO-METAL (Riho Sayashi) - is a longtime friend of SU-METAL. They've been separated due to Su wanting to focus on singing while Riho on dancing. She became part of another idol group called Morning Musume. I think she announced this year that she's completed her term with BABYMETAL. Need confirmation on that.
EDIT: I'm sure BABYMETAL and Sakura Gakuin's choreographer, Mikiko, hand-picked Momoko and Kano for BABYMETAL - arguably the 2 best dancers of Sakura Gakuin.

"I think she announced this year that she's completed her term with BABYMETAL. Need confirmation on that."
There has been no official announcement about the status of any of the supporting avengers.
Riho has been working on other projects, and she did sign with another entertainment agency recently (not Amuse, Inc.), so it seems very likely she's done being a supporting dancer for BABYMETAL. It's also quite likely that the terms of her contract with BABYMETAL mean that she's not allowed to discuss it.
The last eleven BABYMETAL appearances, including the NHK TV show spot that was recently streamed, have had Momoko as the supporting dancer.

Actually, in most cases, there is no syllable stress in Japanese - each syllable has the same length and beat. As an example, most Westerners say Yakuza and Hiroshima wrong. It's not ya-KU-za or hi-RO-shi ma, (where the capitalized syllables are stressed) it's just ya-ku-za and hi-ro-shi-ma with each syllable said in equal measure.
Also, whenever you see a double "ii" represented in English, it means an extra or longer "ee" sound. For example, Babymetal's music is called "kawaii metal," which is pronounced "ka-wai-ee," and it means "cute. "If you make the mistake of just saying "ka-wai," that means something completely different - scary or frightening.
The other thing is all vowels in most cases are pronounced in Japanese - so no matter where a vowel is in a word in its English-spelled version, a vowel is always pronounced, usually as a hard English vowel. Example: Megitsune is not "meh-GIT-soon," it's "may-geet-soo-nay."

    Japan is 1% Christian.
They actually view the giant Christian cathedrals in Europe with all of their gorgeous stained glass, pillars and statues in a similar way that we view their giant Buddha statues and shrines and torii gates and stuff. It all seems so exotic and foreign to them, and therefore very cool.

Has Sumetal ever been anything other than the best?
Yes, that's right. This song was an insert song for the Evangelion movie.
I've attached a translation of the lyrics for your reference.
I continue to look forward to Babymetal Monday.
Turn back to me, follow your memories.
To the water source of kindness and dreams
To be born again, to fall in love with a star.
    Lefranc in the soul.
The bare skin surrounded by blue shadows.
Quietly quivering in the midst of time.
As if to question the whereabouts of life.
    My fingertips will find me.
I held you in my arms, the one you were meant to be.
It blooms in seasons, just like a fleeting flower.
Leaving the smell of hope in your heart.
The brightly coloured figure in a hurry.
You must return to me before you are born.
To the land where you spent your time.
Return to my arms... for we meet again.
Miracles do happen, as often as they can.
    Lefranc of the soul.
Like a prayer, when your eyelids are closed.
The world just disappears into darkness.
And yet the heartbeat starts beating again.
    Searching for a limited eternity.
Turn back to me, follow your memories.
To the water source of kindness and dreams
Come back to me, and we can make love.
The mind and body repeat themselves.
    Lefranc in the soul.

    As for Yui coming back...
    There's little to no chance.
In Japan, a person's public image (even more so the one of a famous one) is almost sacred.
To keep it up, one of the things they do, culturally, is mataining their words.
Once Yui said she was out, she meant it. And she said we'll be seeing her again as Yui Mizuno (her full name) instead of YuiMetal.
Then, Amuse said that BM would become a duo.
So, if Yui were to come back, it would be seen as a break of their word. It would break the trust of their Japanese friends, as much as every single one wanted it.
It's said, but that's how their culture goes.
