the boost compensator adjusts the pressure at which extra fuel is delivered so if u set it soft u get full fuel at about 0.1psi and totally remove lag, I just ran mine without any spring in the end.
lucas pump u screw it out as the screw squashes a spring that resists compensator, stiffer spring the slower it gives extra fuel, screw it out(anti clockwise) and it can move easier so u will get a bit more smoke off boost or at low/ beginning of boost.
Thank god a person who actually knows about turbos!! Namely the extra charge temperature negating the extra boost. I read another video comment and someone said "disconect wastegate!" for max boost!!!! With standard cooler - bad idea, although on my ford 1.8td (forgive me!) the wastegate was seized for ages, 25 psi boost, I reduced to 18 and have same power I think. Just fiddling with air leaks on filter head, I have had 6 faulty new chinese ones! Be on lookout for these!

Adjusting the shown maximum fuel adj 4mm allen screw helps also in old -88 ducato j5 N/A 2.5D Lucas CAV MA260 DPA344 ...now pump is giving enough juice (when fuel adj screw had no effect...). With new injector nozzles it did not once give one bit of blk smoke - after turning the screw 60 degrees, power is now 'normal' with a hint of blk smoke at full throttle. Engine has 100k miles.
Any diesel specialist should have one. I have never removed one without destroying it! with 1 exception, U can try filling plug with epoxy and glueing in a piece of plastic bar etc, so u can turn bar to remove plug rather than ruining plug, I tried this once and it worked but be sure to get no bits inside pump.

Depends what you mean by stage 2, there will be a video about mounting a front mount intercooler and uprated injectors, as well as advanced pump tuning.
Theres not reli alot you can do about turbo lag, best thing is to get hold of a later GT15 turbo, they have smaller internals, and spool up a lot faster, i did the conversion on mine, feels more like a petrol to drive now
Hey chap, Being an escort, i assume its a lucas setup, the compensator settings dont do a HUGE ammount on the lucas, your might see small gains, but nothing like you do from the bosch setup.
@shanfer123 i have the same car and it has a turbo as stock.. when you put your foot down have a listen towards the passenger foot well.. you can hear it whistling down there and you can hear the little stock dump valve when you come off the throttle..

cant say what sort of a power increase you will have, all depends on the tune you gave it, but with a really good tune you can get up to 150hp before having to change parts
Boost compensator is used for the on boost compensation but also effects off boost kind of. ie u can significantly reduce turbo lag by allowing compensator to start compensating earlier (lower boost) as u know, to me it makes the car a different drive totally, no extra power but much less lag. What say u?
Well you should change the injectors from lucas ones to bosch ones really for best perfoance as they have totally different presures to make them open. And you just need to change the pump / bracket / injectors, and to make it easier, the lines as well, as bending them isnt ideal..

Yeah thats fairly normal, the system is always full of oil mist from the oil breather, but excessive oil can be a sign that ur turbo bearings are on there way...
Ah right. I guess I'll have to suffer then unless I get myself a dump valve. Having fun with dead injectors at the moment, it sounded a lot like the "killing" video you put up earlier in the week when trying to start. It hurts my soul to hear her like that! She runs in the end though, yesterday morning it took 5 cycles of plugs and cranking to get her to run. Any idea where I can get replacement injectors if they turn out to be beyond reconditioning? Also my exhaust is falling off now... Fun!
I wonder if the insurance company could tell if pump is turned up and wastegate adjusted? If u set boost then remove boost gauge, everything will look standard, I mean its an adjustment not a modification, unlike a chip on common rails etc? I wonder if u could class it the same as adjusting timing on a petrol car? see my point?
Yeh ur HDI seems a beast :P am going for power with mine, am front mounting atm, have uprarted injectors, GT15 / bosch conversion. Should have a more detailed video soon.
You can increase the fueling with the max fuel, but tbh, you wont get much more from the 1900 nasp engine...without the turbo, you simply cant burn the extra fuel.
hi daz just like to say your a legend up here in the north of England ..... we have a problem 1998 d-turbo sport uses neither of them turbos has a waste gate arm but no adjustment like on track control/waste gate arm on your vids ....any idea looked really closely neither of the kkk or the other turbo you show is simular or same

My Dturbo came with the "Grenade" in the boot and some cut up pipes on the pump can you help??? also someone has grinded/cut away some of the metal off the top of the pump and there is a switch with lots of cables coming from it???

I take it this is due to the side adjustment (max fuel). I wound it back, but does this sound about right though? It had in the past been "stage 1" tuned but
If lucas pump increase off boost fuelling by adjusting boost compensator screw. Have u fitted a huge turbo by any chance? Is the standard turbo (if fitted) working properly? Look for lots of oil in inlet tract - worn turbo.
i have tuned my pug and i must say it has made a massive differance also i have put some capri 2.8 rs wheels 13 inch 205 wide on and that has gave me a little bit more on acceleration aswell...just a quick question mine is the 75bhp phase 2 model so with this tune roughly what sort of bhp would this of added you think? thanks for sharing the video and for those muppet's keep asking the question about the rotation of the boost to turn it up if you listened he did say anti-clockwise in the video.

i removed my cat and middle box and had a straight threw pipe {no cat & middle box} into a cobra back box plus the stage 1 tune and now im running over 22psi from 16psi with only grey smoke..unreal upgrade and you can hear it spooling. i now want to have a 306 hdi gearbox fitted,what modifications need to be made or is it a straight fit ? also it is a 90hp its only the non turbos that are 75hp as i reacently found out.

just a quick one again...i have turned my max fuel up on a lucas pump over 90 degrees. the nut on my acutator on my kkk turbo was loose so i turned it all the way in and then back out 1.5 turns and i am only seing 16 psi...any ideas ? should i go more with the max fuel ?
why don't you just undo the 4 screws holding the top of the pump on and mark where the diaphragm is remove it take the plastic washer off the refit and turn it between 90 and 18p degrees that's what we do with tdi landy's running ve pumps or fit a boost pin and go from there
hi, i know these are similar to the old 1.8td mondeo's setup. however, i have a mk3 mondeo tddi with a fixed vane mechanical turbo. theres no throttle cable on these so any tuning for that will need to be done on a remap via the ecu. given i have a mechanical turbo as apposed to the variable vane which relies on a lot of electrics, im wondering if you can help me out to get more out of the turbo. i can get pictures if needed. Is this the max fuel that the pump can inject?.
Ive got a 1.8d old fiesta. it has a lucas pump but without boost compensator. there is a screw on the back of the pump by the outlet pipes. I know the max fuel is inside the pump. But what does the screw on the back of the pump adjust?
wind it all the way out, take off the springs, cut the bump stops in half and drop her 6 nicks on the back. rubbing scarping and smoking like a board house wife

Yes, you can run the bosch on oil, and also, its a much nicer pump to tune, leaves you with a much smoother, and less smokey engine :D

Well to start. Tell us where you are and we may be able to help find you a good place to go.
Turn the "max fuel" screw anticlockwise, give it a turn, and see how it looks, yes it will fail MOT if its excessivly smokey.

Do u have any pics of ur engine bay, the same concept applies to all mecanicaldiesels... jsut depends on pump and turbo..
