Have you heard the story of Abdurrahman Abdi Pasha the albanian, the last Ottoman governor of Budapest? Albanians are slowly returning to Islam. During the communist era all the mosques as well as the churches were closed. The damage was done but Islam there has survived.

A lot of these countries are opening up after the lifting of communism which prohibited the practice of religion. I visited Kazhakstan and Uzbekistan and I could tell the Soviets really clamped down on these people's rights to practice Islam during the Communist era. It is good that we are not being critical of these people.

It's a shame the big new mosque isn't open but it is so nice to see that small ottoman masjid packed with all the people outside. I will make sure I get there early!

This is our most historical mosque. There are other big mosques in the area....try Xhamia e Tabakeve. It is very big too (sometimes overcrowded)
