    I’ll explain a little more why it doesn’t chop when the VCT is still active. The chop is great but essentially that sound indicates the car isn’t running at optimal level at idle, but it sounds cool. When a car is chopping like crazy with a really big cam it’s just the motor essential running like shit due to the intake and exhaust valves being open at or around the same time, and having way more duration because it benefits higher rpm applications. This means that with really aggressive cams the chop is crazy but low and mid range is hurt because of it and you only see the gains up top. Locking the VCT out means you have to degree the cams to a certain position, and they will be stuck at that same position in correlation to the other cam shaft indefinitely which is why it chops. Essentially this is what a ghost cam does, it just deactivates the vct function at idle and locks the cams in a certain position electronically so it chops at idle. The coyotes have decently sized cams stock which is why you can park the stock cams in a certain location via a ghost cam to make them chop. When active the vct system is constantly moving the camshafts back and forth to get the most optimal horsepower/torque it can out of the entire rpm range. Since it can move the cams back and forth it does this at idle as well making it idle much smoother. It also means you get to retain if not increase a lot of your low and mid range power depending on the cams you go with, because the cams can alter their position for your engines benefit. In most applications vct should stay active because you will feel better gains, unless you have a build that’s just making insane power or you’re revving it insanely high, you’d lock out the vct to prevent the system from having a fault and costing you a motor. Other than that the vct helps a lot with retaining power through the entire rev range with a cam upgrade, which yes it lacks the constant chop sound but your motor has more low and mid range power to play with.
    Edit: I also forgot to mention if you are running really aggressive cams that require really stiff valve springs that’s the only other time you’d want to lock out vct.

    Very solid and informative video. Lots of people talk about their CJ intake set up on TH-cam, or the dyno power the cammed setup puts out. No one ever talks about how expensive it is to stay all Motor.
    Only complaint: you should’ve included some videos of the motor spinning out to 8000 and pulling like a freight train (in-car).

    So, for everything to change from a stock MT82 GT to FBO, T56, etc is a little over 30k:
    Tremec Magnum XL with DSS driveshaft, McLeod RST clutch, McLeod flywheel, Lund 93 tune, and Ford Racing half shafts- $8000 parts and $2200 labor
    Comp Stage 2 NSR cams, comp beehive spring kit, oil pump housing and gear, crank sprocket, BMR motor mounts, Kooks 1 3/4 headers w/ green cats, wideband O2's, Borla resonator, Borla S-type mufflers, CJ manifold, VMP Twin 69 throttle body, Steeda closed box intake, 180F Tstat, E85R tune and 4.09 rear end. $10,000 parts and $5,300 install
    9.5×20 TSW's, Nitto 285's, Coilovers $3,600
    And at that point, the brakes and cooling are still factory...

      @@nickadkins7765 Yes, stock heads, ignition, and fuel system. When the install first finished, there was an innocent goof up with the MAF tube that was throwing off the tune. Dyno was at 505whp/400ft*lb on a dynojet. On top of that, my VCT circuit was cutting out frequently. The only chance I got to run the car before winter, the car trapped 115 because the VCT cut out for all of 2nd and 3rd gear. Before the mods with just the T56 swap and a 93 tune, car was averaging 114mph. Now that everything is sorted out, and the engine block had to be replaced, it might be making a small amount more. Not going to make a claim that it's faster until the track opens back up, but a car making over 500whp should be putting down 120-125mph even at full weight and no drag tire.

    I put my car in neutral and push the rear end out of the garage before I start it, when the kids are sleeping. Feel like that's safer than putting in reverse right away. Idk it might not be causing harm. Just feels wrong lol

    If you went with custom cams it would be around the same price and you could've got ones that perform a little better and chop more. $1100 is about half of what shops would usually charge to do all that. That's a great price. Glad you threw in that for the total price you couldve got a complete turbo kit. Imo it's never "worth it" to do cams+labor vs buying boost and making 750+rwhp.

      Its a question of what you want. If it is a numbers game, yes boost has better numbers. Yes boost when dialed up to 15 can beat the snot out of any NA car hands down. If you are running 15+ pounds of boost, you aren't even in the same category as NA people at that point and probably invested way more than what a set of cams cost.
      What a lot of people miss is two things: weight and heat. Forced induction comes with a weight penalty, some these kits are pretty darn heavy. Power to weight ratio isn't the only thing to consider, it's also suspension. Then there is heat. Dear lord does FI create heat. Definitely something to consider not only for use but also supporting modifications... which in turn add more weight.
      All in, yeah boost generates numbers but it isn't until you start hitting those higher numbers that you start outshining a properly built NA car because of all the extra weight FI carries with it. If you are 100% stock and want to mod, I'd argue that a good FI system with all its support mods is more expensive that a really good NA build with support mods. Decent turbo kit with everything you need to make reliable power is north of $10k (usually $12-14k depending on what you want to acheive). Are their cheaper turbo kits? Yep. Would I call them reliable... probably not. I will say this though. If you get a good turbo kit and get the right supporting mods, you can go from driver friendly to track beast relatively simply. But again, at a higher cost.

      @@DeeEhm you don't need 15+psi on a coyote car to outshine a cammed NA coyote. At 15psi you would absolutely roast an NA coyote and would pretty much put you at the limit of the factory motor. A simple 8-10psi setup will run circles around a cammed NA coyote. And you also don't need any supporting mods other than injectors and bap and that's even only if you're shooting for north of 700rwhp. You definitely don't need a $10k+ kit to make power or be reliable. I'm not sure how heavy you think these power adder kits are, but they're lighter than a full tank of gas. Heat is a non issue. That's why they come with intercoolers. You also have the option to also run e85 or add a meth kit. Many cars out there making 700rwhp reliably on 93.

      @@DeeEhmlol most Ferrari and Lambos are slow. Any new Vortech or Procharger costs much less than $10k and will put you right at 700rwhp on 9psi. A 3.0 Whipple is less than $10k. Both On3 single and twin turbo setups are less than $10k after add ons. The Hellion twin sleeper kit is less than $10k with add ons. If you're shooting for big power and converting to return style fuel system then it will push you over $10k. The only real kit that will run you over $10k is the Hellion twin top mount. I've been running boost for 12 years on two mustangs. You definitely don't need to spend over $10k to have a reliable boosted full weight coyote setup that runs high 9's in the 1/4.

    I don't know of a single gas station close to me tgat sells e85.
    I would just run 93.
    But if your car is cammed
    Why does it not chop.

    I had stage 2 cams in mine but I had to take them out because they were causing a P0369 code, which caused massive power loss. I probably could have re-tuned it and "masked" the problem, but I chose to go back to stock instead. I would not suggest trying to do cams yourself unless you really know what you're doing. It took me about a week to do mine. I took my time and did it right... unfortunately the moron who installed the stage 2 cams did not...

    Yeah bro, I have a ‘69 Boss that came
    With a blown 429 that I am rebuilding eventually, so I did a whipple supercharged coyote crate motor swap and got those Comp stage 3 cams put in. The sound is incredible. Sounds very old school. I replaced the mufflers with Dynomax Bullets and man, that chop is hella sick! It wants to shut off when I make turns and don’t throttle but I know she needs a good tune. LoL. Yours sound real good bro! Thanks for the video!

    I see you put e85 in your mustang. I also have a mustang gt, year 2017 but I was wondering if I need to upgrade anything like the injectors in order to use the e85. I know I have to tune the car which is important but is there any mechanical upgrades that are neccessary so I don't destryo my car lol. Thanks.

      If you're pre 18+ then you only need aftermarket injectors if you have a different intake. If you have the stock intake manifold then you're good to go on E85!

      @@Rouskie Intake manifold, or just Cold air intake? If it's just a cold air you're still fine, I mean the actually manifold. Top part of the motor, where the cold air and throttle body connects to.

      @@Rouskie you will need a tune for E85 but that's all! Get a E85/Flex fuel tune from any company, (highly suggest spending the money and go with lund) and you'll be good to go! But if you ever get an intake manifold then keep in mind you'll need injectors to go with it!

    I can swapped my 99 camaro myself I wouldn’t want own these mustangs too much money to buy cam kit vs what a ls engine parts for cam kit but it is nice mustang I just think it’s insane how much parts are for a coyote 5.0 but we’re talking about a engine that runs 4 cams in one engine 😂😂😂
