I have been using the Virpil Constellation Alpha now for well over a year, it's not a yoke but boy is it smooth. As you said, every single tiny movement on the stick is shown in the sim, its utterly fantastic, smooth and precise. I don't use a yoke so for me it's a very natural way to fly, especially for jets, single stick GA planes. Using the Crosswinds and a logitech Flight Throttle Quadrant. A very happy pilot here

Whata re your settings? I have been trying to figure out how to map, but i am so lost. I am at the point in which i do not know if i want to continue banging my head. My Joystick inputs are not smooth, and my aircraft always hops. My yoke does hard turns and stays in what ever position i go to even when i center my Virpil control

You're so right, I guess whe're on the same page from the same book when it comes to DCS, MSFS, TM Warthog Hotas and the Virpil Hotas.
The thing I'm tryin to find out now is how to use the two mini joy-sticks - the one on the Throttle and the one on the Flight stick - to move my drone's around in MSFS.
Just dicovered MSFS again after 26 years - taking a little "sabbatical" from DCS now - and man .. does MSFS has improved a lot since 1998.
Love to fly the "old Iron" like the DC-6 and the DC-3 ... I can listen to those engines all day long ;)

I use the VKB Gladiator setup with MFG Crosswind rudder pedals. Amazing what premium gear does for the tim experience. I looked a Virple too but I like the setup that VKB offered because it target a good balance between gen aviation and combat sim.

With all the flight sim gadgetry I have bought over the years (lots) the virpil constellation alpha prime is the absolute STANDOUT. The virpil software isn’t exactly simple, but after a long while i have managed to get some of the buttons to function. Would love to know if there is a way to just import the base settings for each aircraft I want to use and save it as a separate profile. Then just tweak it in MSFS2024 and DCS. I have a full virpil helicopter setup ready to go.

Nice video, quick question: from your experience with the joystick base (essentially), is the joystick ALWAYS returning to middle point no matter where the initial deflection is (like bottom-left bottom-right, top-left top-right)? I'm asking this because the new VKB joystick I have NEVER returns to middle point. Thank you.

I now use the t-flight from trustmaster, its a entry level cheap hotas, i now have 100 hours in msfs and i realy like the sim. im planning on upgrading, but i cant get my mind on what i should buy, a quality hotas like virpil or vkb or the honeycomb yoke and trottle quadrant. I have no intentions for flying DCS or space sims and i want it to be as realistic as possible. Knowing you tested both honeycomb and the quality hotas, were would you spend your hard earned mony if you had to choose? I mostly fly yoke GA. how is the honeycomb resolution vs the virpil? is it in the same ballpark?

I have been downloading different helicopters and I looking forward to the updates coming for helicopter support. I have struggle finding flight controls to use, would these be a good starting set? Thanks!

    • @nvstewart
      @nvstewart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I use Virpil and I fly helis. The joystick is incredibly precise. I have a Thrustmaster Warthog too. IMO, the difference between a budget HOTAS and a Thrustmaster Warthog, is the same difference between the Warthog and Virpil. The quality is amazing, and more importantly, the precision. You can also purchase stick extensions to make it longer, which adds to the precision tenfold.
I wouldn't call them a starting set exactly, these would be closer to the high end. If you choose Virpil you will be pleasantly surprised.

Yep seems most of their stuff is pretty good.....IF you can get it! Many items are ALWAYS on backorder and it takes MONTHS to get those items. Other issue is they charge you for everything you order upfront so your money is tied up for the entire time you're waiting. They have serious supply issues and have had for years. I ordered mine several years ago and just went up on their site. All the same items are STILL on backorder.
Be prepared for a long wait. At least in the US this is the case. Not sure about other countries. Too bad.

If TM didnt cheapout and used Hal effect sensors instead of pots they would have the same resoloution, just saying, but the TM products have also been out for quite a while and were the flagship of controls back in the days as there nearest competitor was Saitek back then with their over piced plastic stuff. Dont get me started on the junk pots they use and trying to find them is as rare as rocking horse poo.
Also if TM had used a plastic flight stick instead of all metal you would get more control as you are not trying to overcome and fighting the weight throw caused by a heavy stick which is more evident when you add a stick extension hence why TM dont really offer one like Virpil do.
TM went down the road of modeling off real world controls like the Cougar and the Warthog from the F-16 and A-10.
The TM Cougar was mainly aimed at the F16 community back in the days of Falcon 4.0 when Microprose went belly up and its source code was leaked and you got the OpenFalcon, FreeFalcon/RedViper, BMS projects which were all free except you had to own the original Falcon 4.0 CD. Allied Force (you had to purchase) by Lead Pursuit/Atari was a collection of stolen work done by the previous teams mentioned for a quick cash grab by Atari who bought the ip's for Microprose and didnt last too long as the community went underground and ignored the C&D issued by LP and said a big F*****U, Sadly now there is only BMS team left.
The TM Warthog was released when ED had Lock on Modern Air Combat and Flaming Cliffs then merged and developed DCS and released their 1st A10 module and TM used the same stick as the cougar but shrank the base and created the new throttle.
