Competitive-wise, in my opinion concerning this form fight, I think regular Gyarados is more viable than it's mega form. Sure it's Mega form has Mold Breaker, higher attack, good Dark Type STAB and more bulk, I think that a mega slot would be better used on a Pokemon that can benefit more from it. Besides, being weak to Fairy in this metagame is never a good thing. Regular Gyarados's intimidate is invaluable to teams. Alternatively, it has Moxie, which coupled with Dragon Dance makes it virtually unstoppable as well it having the option to use Supersonic Skystrike with Bounce to get a KO and Moxie boost.
Agreed, regular Gyarados is much better and heavily used than Mega due to better ability competitive-wise. The Mega slot is better reserved for other better Mega Pokemon.
Yeah, it's a tie for me, too. They both have really cool designs and are equally useful in battle (which is very), and I would've been happy with either one wining this fight. I like to nickname my male Gyarados Rampage (for obvious reasons) and my female Gyarados Undyne, after the character from Undertale.
Is it weird that I prefer normal Mega Gyrados over it's shiny? The colors are more vibrant and I like the underbelly color being black as well as his Unibrow. 😅

I like regular Gyarados better. The Mega is pretty cool, but it kinda reminds me of a shrimp. I'm cool with Water/ Dark since Dark is my favorite type, but I would've preferred Water/ Dragon. Has anyone ever noticed that Mega Gyarados has almost the exact same defensive stats as Umbreon?
Omg I love the battle was so hilarious. They all using moves that has no effect and resisted and using moves that doesnt need like Magnerize when Gyarados already are immune to ground type. Lol freaking good start. Metronome is one of the funniest move ever. xD Also that Dazzlim Gleam had been so good if only original gyarados had got that one xD Really good battle. Gyarados has always been my top favorite since my first time watched episode 16 when James stupidly kicking his magikarp off. Imagine if he had kept magikarp and raised it to a Gyarados. I dont think would made diff coz Pikachu is 4 times more effective but I could see team Ash would have lot of problems dealing with James Gyarados. Also as a kid I struggled so much of how I suppose to get Gyarados as everytime u fished it up its only level 5 and no attacking moves. How u suppose to level it up and I dream of having one of my own Ik u can catch a wild one in Gen 2 but I like when pokemon evolves its satisfying feeling. But then I slowly figure out the trick and tips to evolve it and first that came to mind was the Day Care ofc and one Rare Candy u find in Verolean City. (Forgot how that spelled) The other tecnique is to let Magikarp start battle first then switching to a better pokemon to share exp even it slow its working and when I finally got myself my first Gyarados I gasped and was super happy. Finally getting my favorite pokemon of all time. :) Also I love that it learn Thunder which I thought was extremely OP as that would mean Gyarados is super useful against water types as u can just use Thunder and u defeat every water type except when they are part ground types. I also love its Levitation which u can troll those Earthquaking users like the Fly Gym Leader in Gen 3 Hoenn, Ruby and Sapphire, Emerald which make Gyarados extremely useful with its Thunder move just frying the gym leader's Altaria who love to use Earthquake.
I had actually wish Gyarados was part Dragons. Dragons are known to destroy cities *Cough, Smaug* and it has the cool dragon lore in real life and its acting like a dragon and always mad like a dragon. It had been a perfect part dragon in my opinion. And it would make Gyarados a perfect counterpart of Charizard as both of them are simply the same just one is Fire and other is Water. Both are Flying types and Charizard gets its Dragon wish once it evolve but Gyarados doesn't, making it even more furious explains why it turns part Dark type. I would be angry if I don't get to turn dragon. It remind me when I first tried out Red Bull as I thought it would give me wings like actual dragon and I asked dad what dragons ate and I ate what he said which was not true just tried to be fun like it was and I as a kid goes out and pretending I'm about to transform to an awesome dragon which never happened I got extremely disappointed both me and the drink. Now Im forever a dark type in real life. ouo As for the Mega I think its cool but I think it makes Gyarados a bit fat and I personally like the original one. Just a Water and Dragon would had been pretty nice tho. It would had giving Gyarados a bit resisted to electric too. Which also would be great for it to have Thunder or Thunderbolt as that would make Gyarados a big threat to all water types and flying types.

Well my opinion on these two Like both of them but i am not a total fan of all mega Pokemon But i would have to pick the normal over the mega because of the ability it has got is one of my favorite abilitys in Pokemon
I choose regular cos they are pretty equal, but regular looks better, i dont like the red or black that mega has and plus regular doesn't take up the mega slot, but it doesn't really matter which is better because i got better pokemon anyways
