I personally think miss piggy and kermit work best when kermit is too humble and piggy is too egotistical. Like Kermit is nice, he’s down to earth, he’s your friend, but dude is way too soft and introverted to survive hollywood. Miss Piggy KNOWS how to be a star, she is a force of nature that won’t let ANYONE mess with her Kermie, much less herself, but Kermit helps pull her down to Earth so she’s actually friends with the people she works with, not just using them as props in her career. Like the dynamic isn’t SUPER healthy but you get why they benefit each other as performers and people.
As a life-long Miss Piggy apologist, I love this video so much! Also, not gonna lie, I get so happy every time Athena makes a Dethklok reference. If she ever did a video on them, it'd be brutal.
Super excited to watch a video on one of the most underrated character arcs ever. Really, Muppet character arcs are so underrated. I wish I had the skill to make one on Gobo's development in the new season of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock. He really does get so stressed from the world falling apart that he sings a whole song ("Push It Down, Fraggle Up") about ignoring and bottling up his emotions that implores every other Fraggle in the Rock to do the same.
@kylebrovlovski it'd have to be several parts long, there's so much. ESPECIALLY with this new season which had some pretty big lore reveals (for the least spoiler-y, apparently Fraggles used to eat Doozers 😬)
The plugging of the villain ship video is a new staple of this channel Edit, the third best thing possible just happened to me: 1. Meet Meryl Streep. 2. Have a great group of family and friends and a solid career that you enjoy and get paid well for. 3. Have your comment get a heart from Athena P.
If you want a new deep Lore idea, did you ever read the magic Tree House series as a kid? It's one of my favourites, but looking back on it now, some of the stuff Jack and Annie were doing was not something two under 10s should have been doing. They were on the Titanic in one book and had to deal with a tidal wave in another. So good, but also so crazy.
HI! AVID MUPPET ENJOYER (one of my most prevalant hyperfixations. wrote several essays about it in college, going to do puppetry as a career)! in my humble opinion, kermit and piggy were never the iconic couple they were portrayed as. in muppets canon, they are actors. in the muppet show and other things where they arent playing roles, their love is very one sided, and at times felt performative. kemit never really wanted a relationship with her (or anyone really until recent medias, which is why i headcanon aroace kermit but thats not canon anymore), but he never wanted to be too upfront about it, for the sake of piggy AND their fans. piggy was being a relatable queen who loves a good delulu moment (me too girl). kermit didnt take the breakup seriously bcz he never took the RELATIONSHIP seriously. going forward, i hope they keep piggy in her self love era, she deserves it. however, they slandered kermit. he used to just be an anxious stage manager trying to corral goofy performers, now hes just mean. jim would be disappointed. also speaking about jim, it was disney purchasing the muppets that killed him! he was so stressed by it that it caused toxic shock syndrome! ALSO PLEASE MUPPETS LORE IM BEGGING!! EVEN IF ITS THE MOVIES OR JUST THE MUPPET SHOW, PLEASE SOMETHING!!
Finally a video about our queen! Miss Piggy is an icon and I love her so much! I always avoided the ABC Muppets due to the bad reputation but a few weeks ago I decided to give it a try and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Even with Kermit’s infrequent but very unpleasant moments of mischaracterization, the show is still really funny and enjoyable. The bit in the first episode with Fozzie talking about his dating profile took me so off guard and it is perfect. Something a lot of people miss is just how excellent Steve Whitmire’s performance is as Kermit. The show’s format required a very expressive Kermit and Steve pulled it off masterfully. It’s one of my favorite Muppet performances and it’s severely under appreciated. All in all, really fun show, but by no means a perfect one. I’d love to see a full lore deep dive for the show. (aHem) P.S. An interesting thing to note is that even though we know Kermit would never cheat, Jim Henson, for whom Kermit was of course a frog stand in, actually did cheat on his wife Jane on multiple occasions. Even so, Jim and Jane remained good friends until his death. P.P.S. I have a strong suspicion that the part of Pizza (the branding guru) was written specifically for Aziz Ansari. I mean Pizza is literally just a successful Tom Haverford.
@@AthenaPOfficial If you are ever interested in seeing the full story of Jim Henson and The Muppets there’s an excellent documentary series by Defunctland here on TH-cam. It’s multiple hours long though
@@AthenaPOfficialit’s why he always travelled. The very last time he was with his wife was due to getting cancer I believe, he stayed with her but died within like three days or something after an interview? It’s wild. He did some good things for the world but man like most humans we’re mortal and do some bad things too. Cheating being the worst thing he did.
Miss Piggy is an icon and this show, crazy as it was, was fun to watch and remember the muppets did stuff. Kermit was so mean that he was unrecognizable! If they ever do something like this again, hopefully they do Kermit in a way he is compassionate but flawed compassionate.
Why does this show sound actually awesome. Cancelled unfairly!!! Bring it back, please!!!!! Also that song at the end truly made me emotional, Miss Piggy would cry to this. Alone.
I WANT A SEASON 2 SO BAD! THAT CLIFFHANGER WAS ILLEGAL!! Also thanks so much for enjoying the song! Many comments ago someone told me I should “stop making songs forever” 😅 and I was never going to listen to that already BUT I APPRECIATE THE REASSURANCE! 🤌 I feel less crazy now
The 2015 series did have its moments, both good and bad. While it did give the Muppets a fresh new start to be back on TV again, the way it was executed was kinda….well…it could’ve been handled a little better. But I still feel like while the Kermit/Piggy Breakup could’ve been expanded upon and would’ve fleshed out the characters more than they’ve ever been, it was initially created for publicity and press. It just made these characters unlikeable to see them in this way. Nothing against the show, or the characterizations that the show runners had in mind, but I feel like some of the charm that Jim Henson and his original crew made recognizable was missing. The Muppets did exist in the real world, but they also were part of their own world too. And no, that doesn’t mean they always treat each other with respect. In fact, sometimes they can’t stand each other. But it is during some tough times, where they are even at their lowest, that they always find a way to unite and make things work again. It’s through the wrong that they make things right. It’s taking what they got, and flying with it. This is something that even Disney needs to understand. We love these characters for being real with us, but finding enough wittiness and nuttiness to make us laugh. And there absolutely should be a balance. And no, I’m not saying how Jim would want it, but I’m more saying on how we need it. If there’s one thing that is true, it’s that these characters will still be around, ready to pop up anywhere at anytime, and that’s what I love about the Muppets. They still find ways.
I thought I was the only one who knew about this show existing. I only remember the episode where Fozzie Bear was stealing a candy dish because of his addiction to candy, or maybe it was him just wanting the candy dish because it looked pretty.
@@AthenaPOfficial OMG, How was I that accurate when I only saw this episode 💀. Also just an idea, you should do a deep dive of the other characters on ABC's Muppets 😃
*please do lore lites of all the muppets, that would be so awesome and iconic* Edit: Also, it's very canon within the Muppets universe that all the Muppets are just casually *super fucking old* and they just haven't aged for some reason (although the original idea for The Muppet Movie was that they *had* visibly aged, and that some of them had actually *died,* but that was scrapped for being too depressing). All the jokes about how much younger Denise is than Kermit have a *lot* to stand on, mainly because it's very likely that she is indeed much younger than the og cast. However, she is still an adult and allowed to date whoever she wants. She was right to leave Kermit, tho, he's kind of a shit boyfriend, and I'm glad that there wasn't any canon confirmation that Kermit and Piggy got back together, those two still need time to figure themselves out before trying to get in a relationship with *anyone* again.
As someone who didn't grow up with the muppets (aka not from the US) I am surprisingly VERY upset at how they absolutely destroyed Kermit's character on this show. I can actually relate to having a malewife fave turned into a misogynistic asshole who breaks up with his girl for no reason, so I'm pouring one out for the kermit fans
13:27 I may be *reaching* (and dumb lol) buttt you could look at Kermits "hesitation" in the elevator with the actress as him considering his options and possibly forgetting he wasn't with Ms. Piggy anymore, but with his new girlfriend. Basically showing how his brain will always go back to his mindset he was in with Ms. Piggy and mentally and emotionally "disregard" his current partner for his ex
The muppets is one of those IP’s that was a staple in my children AS WELL as my adulthood. The humor in those movies shaped me into the person I am today ( as weird as that sounds. ) Thank you muppets for making me laugh at almost everything parody 😭
Seeing people talk about this show again makes me so happy, I definitely wish this series got another season but it super clear why it never did, as a Muppet fan it’s really hard when you don’t really get much these days when compared to other Disney Properties, and when we do it’s not really marketed, ending with less Muppets stuff being made dude to a declining viewership (it’s kinda in a loop), in turn no one really talks about them, so thank you for reigniting my Muppet Hyperfixation for today (PS. Give Muppet Mayhem a watch if you want genuinely crazy Muppet Lore)
I really loved ABC’s the muppets and it drives me crazy how the brand’s stuck in limbo now because of the cancellation of Muppets Mayhem. Like, it’s either Muppets Now or nothing, apparently, and I *HATE IT.*
THIS or it’s flanderized muppets with no life redoing the same stupid reboots Disney ALREADY did!! The haunted mansion one with the muppets was just depressing as it was just Disney going “OH REMMEBER REMEMBER THIS ONE IP YEAH YEAH HERES OUR REBOOT WERE RELEASING RHIS YEAR YOU CAN FORGET MUPPETS AGAIN” it’s just nostalgia bait now 😭
4:22 I've never seen this series, but I would also like to point out that bunsun says, "If it happens outside of work, we don't owe them an explanation." This to me not only implies them being involved but also implies that they have maby hooked up during work hours in the past. Sooo the theory of them not being vanilla has more grounds than just the tazer.
I now have a cannon in my head where Athena was adopted into Miss piggy family as a baby. This way the two grew up as sisters and Athena and miss piggy grew up as sister so when there parents were slaughtere Miss piggy took the responsibility to raid her little sister Athena who was 8 years old at the time. Around that time miss piggy became a star and as we can see very rich so raising and taking care of Athena needs were manageable for her. “ I am pretty great with kids.” She says because she raised Athena who she can relax and in a way be herself, she can wear anything knowing Athena won’t judge her. Miss piggy shopping with child Athena while holding her hand it too cute.
I JUST started going down a muppet fixation rabbit hole and I’m in the middle of this show. Athena with impeccable timing as always (I had no idea this video was coming out)

From my understanding, a major reason why Steve Whitmire doesn't play Kermit anymore is because he disagreed with the way Kermit was characterized in this show (though the exact details on what happened are fuzzy and change depending on who's telling the story).
For all the flack this show gets, I really like what it does with Piggy. I like how it calls her out for her stubbornness and how it gets her into trouble. About how she could have done more to get Kermit back like Fozzie does with his girlfriend and how her inability to really fight for her and Kermit to be together really hurt them as a couple. One of the best scenes is where Piggy actively asks Kermit if they made a mistake by leaving each other and while they don’t get back together, Kermit assuring her that he still cares and will still be there for her even if they’re not together was really effective in my eyes. Yeah I think the overall show probably wasn’t a good idea and learning what we know now about how Steve Whitmire was shut down on protecting Kermit leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But I do think when it comes to Piggy and Kermit, I think the show nails it.
So gonna start by saying, I've been surrounded by the muppets since before I could walk and growing up during a time where kids my age preferred Suite Life and Drake. I was on The Muppet Show and Alice Cooper. I personally hated the ABC Muppet series, because I know that Jim would have hated how selfish Kermit had been made out to be. That being said, the song brought a tear to my eye and I think it's a perfect representation of the Muppets as a whole. I'm glad that you talked about the muppets, even if it was just for a lore lite. I wish they could come back as cheesy, over the top, innovative and without fear of being weird like they once were, but it seems like that died when Brian Henson stopped taking such an active role, though I am hopeful for the Electric Mayhem movie. Thanks again Athena you made my heart happy
4:58 I just randomly recalled this when it comes to fictional characters that don't really have "traditional" ageing like Pokemon or Zora and Gorons from the legend of zelda series. I personally look at mental age when those types of characters are paired together if one acts like a child and the other acts like an adult I am not ok with it. However if both act as adults on a mental level its fine.
NO BECAUSE I LAUGHED SO HARD AT 8:26 - BECAUSE as soon as I saw, you were covering the Muppets by immediately connected to how your energy matched Miss Piggy!!!!! Your theatrics and energy are perfectly Synced! I laugh along to your jokes all the time.

(Sorry for info dumping I really love the muppet lore it seem to be a bit of a dead fandom ❤❤❤)

[image of werewolf ripping shirt off] MISS PIGGY AND KERMIT ARE HAPPILY IN LOVE IN MY HEART
Underrated comment
you should watch a Muppet Christmas Carol
I still cry when they sang Rainbow Connection together in The Muppets from 2011.
THEY BROKE UP IN THE ABC SHOW BECAUSE MISS PIGGY TRIPPED IN A PROMO FOR SAID SHOW. WHAT THE HELL.
The sponsor segment has me SNORTIN *no pun intended but it was completely fucking intended*
I love Piggy and Uncle Deadly's relationship.
Facts thoooo
@kylebrovlovski it'd have to be several parts long, there's so much. ESPECIALLY with this new season which had some pretty big lore reveals (for the least spoiler-y, apparently Fraggles used to eat Doozers 😬)

I love that its canon to the muppets verse that tgey genuinely broke up
Finally a video about our queen!
(aHem)
I didn’t know Jim Henson cheated on his wife damn ☹️
@@AthenaPOfficial If you are ever interested in seeing the full story of Jim Henson and The Muppets there’s an excellent documentary series by Defunctland here on TH-cam. It’s multiple hours long though
LOVE defunctland! Haven’t watched that video yet though! Thanks so much for the recommendation
My favorite part with Fozzie is him being on the dating app and finding out about “Bears” in the dating scene it’s so out of pocket 😭
I'm not kidding here that final song was really touching actually!
I’m so so happy you enjoyed thank you so much!!
I'm obsessed with how it's shot exactly like the office
Can't believe I never noticed this but Kermit is a lot more expressive than other muppets who usually are stuck with a permanent smile.
🤌 I feel less crazy now
@@AthenaPOfficial Your songs are really fun! Your videos already have SO MUCH personality, but the songs just add even more
The 2015 series did have its moments, both good and bad.
"am I only here for you to consume" has multiple meanings in this context
I thought I was the only one who knew about this show existing. I only remember the episode where Fozzie Bear was stealing a candy dish because of his addiction to candy, or maybe it was him just wanting the candy dish because it looked pretty.
He wanted it because he stole it from a celebrity as a way to commemorate being at the celebrity’s house! What you guessed made too much sense hahaha
@@AthenaPOfficial OMG, How was I that accurate when I only saw this episode 💀. Also just an idea, you should do a deep dive of the other characters on ABC's Muppets 😃
That song was beautiful omg those HARMONIES… also iconic look as always
Thank you so much!!! So so happy you like it 🥲
Leaving a comment in support bc I can't handle a show where Kermit is mean and their relationship is in shambles, it's just too much 💔
Muppets ABC has some problems here and there but honestly it's one of my favorite pieces of Muppets media, Thanks so much for covering it Athena!
*please do lore lites of all the muppets, that would be so awesome and iconic*
Edit: Also, it's very canon within the Muppets universe that all the Muppets are just casually *super fucking old* and they just haven't aged for some reason (although the original idea for The Muppet Movie was that they *had* visibly aged, and that some of them had actually *died,* but that was scrapped for being too depressing).
Omg the outfit this time is the most you energy, which means ur energy is on par with miss piggy ❤
I love that Belinda is also a callback to Muppet Christmas Carol. 33:12
The fact that this came right in the middle of my own Muppets hyperfixation.. specifically the 2010s era muppets! wow..
I am in the very same situation! Maybe there’s some sort of Muppets bug going around lol
Lol this came out maybe a month or two after mine ended, I would’ve absolutely been frothing at the mouth for this

I’m so glad your talking about the muppets. The muppets just feels like something that belongs on this channel 😊
What’s super interesting is that when Kermit first meets Mrs piggy she is at a country fair trying to win a blue ribbon
Man, when this show came out, I remember loving it so much...looking back at it now-yeah, Kermit was an asshole, which is so unkermit-like of him...
I think so much about the old interview where Gonzo, Kermit, and Miss Piggy are implied to be a throuple ("Big Breakfast")
This sponsor is genuinely the something I've always been looking for. Thank you from the bottom of my plus-size heart, mrs. Athena
The haunted mansion one with the muppets was just depressing as it was just Disney going “OH REMMEBER REMEMBER THIS ONE IP YEAH YEAH HERES OUR REBOOT WERE RELEASING RHIS YEAR YOU CAN FORGET MUPPETS AGAIN” it’s just nostalgia bait now 😭
did... did you not watch Muppet Mayhem or Muppet Haunted Mansion? 'Cause they exist and imo they're pretty good (especially The Muppet Mayhem)
@@thatmanwithanose I watched Muppets Mayhem, dude.
Muppets mayhem so much better than ABC’s muppets. It has its problems but way funnier.
The 2015 muppet series was affected by executive meddling, yet it needed a 2nd season to improve!!
I'm currently knee-deep in a Muppets hyperfixation ESPECIALLY the ABC show. thank you for sharing a brain cell with me queen❤
I binge watched the entire series in early 2022 and didn't like it at first but after a while I loved it and am still pissed at the cliffhanger finale

From my understanding, a major reason why Steve Whitmire doesn't play Kermit anymore is because he disagreed with the way Kermit was characterized in this show (though the exact details on what happened are fuzzy and change depending on who's telling the story).
Miss Piggy is queen
I am so happy you made a video of this, I watched the entire series while pregnant in the couch with my first baby
YOOOOOO WHY DID THE SONG GO SO HARD 🔥🔥
Pink sauce… heh…MORE LIKE PIG SAUCE!
the outfit is giving chappell roan 💗
Miss Piggy always has been and will be a fashion icon and I don't care what anyone says.
